Mission: Mission 91: The Sum of All Fears
Location: ACSF Noble - High Orbit over B Kayor.
Timeline: 1000Hrs, August 15th, 2392

Captain Torilla Yamaguchi blinked open her new eyes as she was quickly getting adjusted to her new body. The design was a human female so she was not as tall she was used to be, she was five foot and ten inches in height rather than a full six foot even and she was also forty pounds lighter than she was in her original body.

The tall female slowly smiled. Meanwhile, Rachael Yamaguchi-Cullen came down the hallway, her husband beside her as Saki Yamaguchi had all but refused to leave her mother's side. "Let's see what Anzan wants us for."

The three went into the room where Anzan was located, other Yamaguchi's entered as well as the various members of Torilla and Plataea's families.

Anzan sat in his rather extensive office in the Noble's hospital when his sensitive feline hearing picked up the new arrivals. He was in the room with both his siblings, Kasana and Tezika, both of whom had been assisting him with this latest issue.

Once they were all in, Tezika closed the door while Anzan looked at Torilla and her immediate family, "alright, well, I have been doing my research on the Halanian medical issues, and I have narrowed down the problems, your species is having."

Torilla regarded all of her children as they all shared looks. Plataea Yamaguchi gently held Saki on her lap as Rachael was seated next to her. Torilla was seated next to Plataea. "Go on Doctor. How bad is all of this?"

Anzan looked at his first notes," Alright, well regarding your species wide issues. The entire halanian Species has badly damaged genes, and with each successive generation, it's getting worse. Genetic disorders are running rampant throughout the species. Without a massive genetic treatment, your species is within ten to twenty generations of extinction."

The various Yamaguchi's shared looks as they all slowly shifted their positions as if being uncomfortable. "So the species is doomed then," Torilla said quietly as Plataea gently placed an arm around her shoulders. "It'll be okay, we'll figure something out."

Anzan looked straight at Plataea, "Plataea, you may be the Halanian's species last hope for survival, as you are the only full blooded halanian without this genetic problems. But even then, its a hell of a longshot."

Plataea regarded him, a rather guarded look on her face. "What do you mean?" she inquired quietly.

Anzan leaned back in his chair as he explained slowly. "Well, in order to repair the genetic damage to the Halanian species, I need healthy examples of Halanian genes. However attempting gene therapy on an entire species when I only have one healthy example, can lead to other problems. In order to effectively repair the Halanian genome, I need at least several thousand examples of healthy Halanian DNA, from both genders."

Plataea nodded her head, she could feel the distress levels in the room rising as the conversation continued, for now, it wasn't bad. "They need to be pure Halanan though, which means I'm I'm it," she responded with a soft sigh. "My Halanan species, however, is in good health, we never fought the last three great wars that your species did," she said to Torilla. "My genomes are in excellent health. It's a shame we can't get back to my original reality."

Anzan nodded, looking at Plataea "Yeah, unfortunately. However, since Torilla and her family have your genes, your genes can be used to repair their genetic difficulties, and there are quite a few of them."

Torilla nodded. "I know," she whispered, as her fear turned into ice cold terror. Plataea noticed as she gently rubbed her twin's shoulder. "It'll be alright, somehow, we'll get through this."

Plataea nodded. "Whatever I can do to help Doctor. You'll have whatever you need from me. Whatever it takes" she commented.

Anzan then went to his next order of business. "Alright, so far I only have a full genetic screening on Gabriel and Torilla. From what I am able to tell, your family largely has genetic issues that tend to manifest later in life. So, first you Gabriel. Your genetic disposition is surprisingly clean, however, you obviously have Azoospermia. Your genes have also tested positive for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS for short. Now, this is a degenerative neurological condition, but you won't likely seeing it until your maybe 80 to 90 at the earliest."

Gabriel Yamaguchi knew that this was coming to him more than most. "I know. When Savv and I want to have kids, we need some serious help with it. It's embarrassing." he sighed softly. "So I have time then." he sighed. "Before my issue gets stupid."

Anzan nodded. "Also as long as you continue to get Akurian age reversal treatments before the age of 80, you will never experience the onset of ALS, however, if the gene therapy plan works, we can eliminate the ALS and Azoospermia from your genes entirely and rid you of these problems for good. But as long as you are positive for the gene, you also have be especially careful if you take any head injury or radiation dose, as that can trigger an early onset."

Gabriel nodded. "Okay. Avoid radiation and head trauma. Got it." he responded. On the outside he looked alright but emotionally, he was almost numb with his own fear, his wife did notice as she moved closer to him. "It'll be okay Gabe." she whispered.

Anzan then moved onto the next item of concern. "Alright, this is something all of you have to watch out for. Your family has a genetic predisposition for developing breast cancer and Melanoma."

He then pointed out. "But you Torilla, as long as you are in that artificial body, these conditions are impossible for you to develop."

He then shifted his attention to Plataea. "However Plataea, again here your family is in the clear."

Anzan then paused, knowing the severity of the news that he would have to deliver regarding torilla.

Torilla regarded the small being as she inhaled softly. "Go on Doctor. I am prepared for the bad news." she paused. "My parents died from these issues. I fully expect to be told the same news they got."

Anzan sighed, then mentioned," Honestly Torilla, you must have had some pretty terrible doctors over the past few years, because this should have been caught a long time ago." He then looked Torilla in the eye. "Torilla, you have Telepathic Huntington Disease. Judging by the scans. I'd say you have had it for about four to five years."

Torilla's eyes widened in horror. "No." she whispered before she started turning everyone and everything out, her mind was hurtling towards that deep, dark place when she found out what her parents were suffering and that she spent several years of her time as a teenager caring for her parents.

Plataea noticed. "Go on Doctor. Proceed. Deal with me, I can help her." as she gently held Torilla close to her.

Anzan stared at the scan reports, then he continued. "Well, I'll be honest, how your various medical officers missed this one, is beyond me. I know Starfleet has medical equipment designed for scanning telepathic brains, and there are more telepaths in your Starfleet than in ours, so how this was missed for so long is beyond me. However, it's a good thing we caught it now because if this went for a year or two longer, you would have suffered irreversible memory loss. However we can treat this, but you need to undergo an immediate age reversal treatment today."

Torilla closed her eyes as she burst into tears. "Nooo. not again!" she whimpered as Plataea gently gathered the slightly shorter woman into her arms. "Its okay sweetie," she said quietly.

He then turned his attention to the rest of the Yamaguchi's. "And the rest of you, you all need to be screened now, and if you have any family members that are part halanian and related by blood, they need to be screened too."

Plataea nodded. "I'll call Tom Lasky, he needs to get down here," she explained.

Elizabeth turned to Anzan, a hard look in her eyes that wasn't there before. "You need to contact Captain Korelii McKnight, she's commanding officer of the USS Hermes. She's mom's sibling and she needs to be here for this too."

"Honestly, I'm not sure what channels I need to go through to contact her," Anzan admitted, It would probably be easier if you or one of your family does it."

Elizabeth nodded. "I'll take care of it," she answered as she made a mental note to see Korelii about it.

Anzan got out of his chair, "Alright," I'll escort all of you to the screening room, get you checked out." The kurokuri then led the way out the door."

The various Yamaguchi's all proceeded to get up as they all followed him out the door, all of them afraid as to what they might or might not find.

Anzan walked them over to one of the large walk-through full body scanners, then turned to the Yamaguchi's. Alright, first you will go through this machine, stay in there for 10 seconds and then walk out."

Anzan then pointed to Kasana who had a couple of medical devices,
"Then my sister Kasana will take some blood from you and run the necessary checks, and we will have the full results for you in a couple of hours. Torilla, Gabriel, this does include you two as well, to make sure we didn't miss anything."

Gabriel Yamaguchi had one arm wrapped around his mother's shoulders as he gently guided her to the destination. "Elizabeth, you go first."

Elizabeth nodded her head before she went over to the machine, stepping into it as requested. She remained inside for ten seconds before emerging and going over to Kasana in silence. Gabriel looked at Torilla. "Mom, you go next." and with that Torilla followed her eldest though the system.

Once Torilla was scanned, Kasana waived Torilla on by, as she couldn't draw Torilla's blood due to her artificial body, plus since they already had her genetic profile there was no need. Anzan then mentioned to Torilla. "Alright, Tezika will take you to the neurology department, I'm going to start getting you treated as soon as possible."

Torilla nodded her head, in a rather jerky fashion. "Okay." and with that, she departed with Tezika. Plataea rose to her feet. "Alright. My turn now. I need to be sure. I have to know if I have these issues or not." and with that, she stepped into the scanner.

Anzan nodded. "Alright, well, I guess I do need a baseline example anyway."

Plataea went over to Kasana. "Hey." she greeted the smaller being with a smile as Rachael went into the system next. Savannah meanwhile stood nearby. "You don't require anything of me. do you Doc?" she inquired of Anzan. "I mean other than moral support."

Anzan looked at Savannah, telling in an instant that she was a human, "No, there is no need."

"Okay," Savannah responded before she went over to join her husband. Meanwhile, Rachael sent Saki ahead over her into the scanner. Saki meanwhile finished her scans before she went over to Kasana. Rachael followed her daughter into the scanner.

Once Anzan took down the last of his information he then told everyone. "Alright, it will be a few hours before I can get results for all of you, have to give the lab time to work on this, so get back to me in a couple of hours and I can let you know whats going on."

The various Yamaguchi's present all shared looks before they all more or less shared a look. "Alright, guys. Back here in three hours." Plataea commented quietly. "I'll take Torilla home and make sure she's okay," she added. "Gabe. you take your kids home and get them something to eat. Rachael, you do the same.. and tell Ennis about this." she responded.

The various Yamaguchi's all nodded before departing.
