Mission:
Mission 66: Double Helix
Location: Tuanko Colony - Planet surface - Medical Center
Timeline: 1100Hrs Local Time - Feb 25th, 2392
Commander Tienn Ezas sighed softly to herself, as she peered into her microscope that she had brought with her down from the USS Rawalpindi, as she shook her head. "Its mutating again... Kosst" the taller Bajoran woman muttered.
"Something wrong Doctor?"
"Yeah... I need more people and resources then I presently have to combat this bug... Its mutating and the cure we just created .... Its worthless now."
"What!" the younger human woman protested. "You're kidding me!"
"I wish I was... Take a look." Ezas sighed as the handsome Bajoran tapped her combadge. "Tienn to Rawalpindi.... We can't contain this bug with the resources on hand.."
Davis's voice came back. "Understood. We'll make arrangements for you."
"Thank you." Tienn responded. "I'll keep working... in the meantime, advise our people carefully... It could trigger a panic."
"Understood Doctor, Starfleets finest is on it. Rawalpindi out."
Tienn smiled. Davis had ways of making her smile despite her black mood of the hour as he had much of her husbands sense of humor but nobody could compare to her husband and father to her children.
Meanwhile Captain L'Ruan peered at her first officer as he handed her a PADD. "Report from the ground personnel sir."
"More bad news?" the Vulcan woman was nothing if not pragmatic as she found herself suddenly missing the presence of her husband and mate.
"Yessir." Davis responded evenly. "They don't think they can contain the situation."
L'Ruan nodded her head, accepting this news. "Very well... get me Fleet Captain Zuko on the USS Dreamcrusher if you please?".
"Willdo sir." and with that Davis went over to his post, he sat down as he pulled the terminal to him, he quickly had a face to face with Zuko. "Captain, We have a situation... We don't think we can stop this bug with the resources on hand.... Can you spare another ship with a heavy medical staff to come and assist us?"
Zuko looked over the ship list. "Well the only one I have on hand that can be spared is Alaska, but I can have each medical staff send a few guys over to Alaska to reinforce their medical department."
"Mmmm... Alaska.. Isn't she one of those new Dunkerque class ships" Davis responded. "For now this bug seems to want to be benign but that could change.." he sighed while he shrugged. "Its mutating quickly though."
Zuko shook his head. "No Alaska is a Discovery class, but she can get there quick."
"Alright." Davis responded. "I'll let our medical guys on the planet know that help is on the way."
Zuko nodded then closed the channel, he then Contacted the Alaska as well as the other ships in the battlegroup.
20 minutes later. Captain Teyo Kemoke walked onto the bridge of the Alaska. Looking around the bridge he noticed his staff were where they need to be, his temp Exec was still here but she was due to leave in a couple of days and be replaced by his permanent Exec. Commander Duval Mia who was coming aboard from a medical ship that was also dropping off medics and nurses for this colony.
The USS Alaska had been assigned to Roanoke's battlegroup for awhile now but this was her first time meeting up with the rest of the group before they were due to load up medics and nurses before departing for Tuanko Colony.
Commander Derris Feraan couldn't sit in any of these chairs as they were all far too small for her so she ended up standing or leaning against the average bulkhead. "Its a pretty ball isn't it?"
Lieutenant Miratu Satk simply shrugged her shoulders in a cottish manner. "One ball is the same as another ball... Its simply a different mix of chemicals and materials..... Like baking a cake."
John Karstark regarded the Orion. "Baking a cake.... How?"
It was Jorry Cassel who replied. "Different planets form differently in different places... with different mixes of ingredients... too much heat and they fry but too little and they freeze." he explained. "Like the cake." he smiled while he explained himself.
"Ahh..." Karstark responded evenly. "So... We're loading medical people and the like?" the older man inquired.
Feraan nodded. "Once we get them, we will go and save the universe." there was a certain dry wit in the massive woman's tone of voice.
Iceclaw, the ships CoB, looked up at Derris, saying. "Well, your tall."
Even Yakawicha, a tiger like Caitian at 6'3. "Didn't expect to see the XO so tall.
Teyo looked up at Derris, saying. "I take it your my new XO."
Feraan nodded her head. "I am indeed, however I am only temporary as your permanent Exec is still on assignment elsewhere." she smiled. "We are here to maker your ship go.." she stepped further onto the bridge. "So... whats the situation skipper?"
Teyo gave a quick briefing. "Well we have a medical emergency on Tuanko Colony, so we are taking on additional medical personnel and going to aid the colony. I realize that this mission has come on short notice and we all just met, but this is the mission."
The massive woman turned to the people who had been with her. "Well folks, Lets go to work."
Jory Cassel nodded. "I'm going to head down to Engineering, see what needs looked at down there... But we will launch on time and this ship will be ready.... Even if I have to go out and push." before he retreated back into the turbolift and was gone.
Sheridan smiled at the enthusiasm. "I'll go and see to Securities issues then I'll go check in with medical, see what needs to be sorted out planetside with respects to their guys and mine working together." he explained.
Stark smiled as she went over to the tactical station. "Mmmm.... very nice." she went to work as she began a full series of diagnostic checks.
Karstark went over to the back wall as he tapped the MSD, checking the medical and counseling layout of the ship. "Yes Commander?" he found himself in her shadow as she regarded him with a curious look.
"Its just that.... You're not doing the matcho chest thumping routine."
Karstark smiled in amusement. "I see no need to try. I am here to help... not hinder." he regarded the massively tall woman before him. "Serving with a Wrykul will be interesting if nothing else." he regarded her with a measure of affection.
Feraan knew exactly what he meant. "Everyone present is smaller then me."
Karstark nodded, his bomber jacket helped him ward off the cold. "I understand." he responded. "Besides its nice and cold... I think I am going to like this ship."
Stark turned her head. "Its lovely and cool... Don't you think?"
"Its refreshing to me." Karstark responded. "But my last assignment was on a Vulcan ship, Lovely and warm." he then smiled. "I can handle extreme cold and extreme heat in equal measure."
"You wore that.... on a Vulcan... ship.." Stark was surprised.
"I wear leather and wool in the desert, the Vulcan's Captain was confused... I lasted longer then he did... which.. is strange I suppose."
"Now I'm confused." Stark responded as she shook her head. "How does that work?"
"Simple, I prepare for the assignment then I make do... rather then make do with nothing."
Meanwhile, the turbolift doors opened and Lt Commander Jory Cassel walked into Engineering. "Allo Allo." he greeted everyone in earshot but as he expected it was a crew of Caitians. "Who's the pretty one in command?"
"Merroow.." responded one rather tall looking Caitian. "I am sir... I take it that you are the New Chief.?" the female responded.
"Yes Lieutenant. I am he." Cassel responded. "
"Ahh good.." she paused. "Carry on everyone."
The personnel around then all turned and went back to their tasks as if nothing was happening. "Lets go into the Chief's office El Tee... So we can get this sorted out.." Cassel said evenly.
The female nodded her head as she led the way, moments later it was just the two of them. "Are you feeling alright sir."
"Call me Jory when on duty, I've never been big on formality." he smiled. "rank if for those who want to feel overly important or that they want to lord it over others... I don't do that... I find I get more done with my guys and gals when they realize that I am one of them... I am here to work... not to lead.. If I wanted to lead. I'd be on the bridge."
"I am North Sun. I am or rather I was the acting Chief Engineer for this ship..... and I'm sorry, I was not expecting a statement like that to come from a human.... Not ever."
"I can understand why." Jory responded evenly.
The transfer of command took only a moment before the two emerged back into Engineering moments later. "North Sun, for now you'll be my assistant Chief until I can look at the roster more closely, see who would be better off where..."
"I understand" the Caitian female responded. "Other then that, we're finishing the last series of checks now... the status is on the MSD at the front of Engineering." she indicated the massive twelve foot sheet of plaststeel, it had all of the information Jory needed. "Thanks. I'll give it the once over. Carry on."
North Sun turned and went back to what she was previously doing as Cassel tapped his combadge. "Bridge, Engineering,. The last of the systems checks are being completed, no problems down here, we'll be able to get underway on time skipper.."
Teyo nodded," understood."
Yakawicha then added. "Now as soon as we get our extra medical personnel we will be ready to go."
It took about 15 minutes for all the extra medical personnel to get onboard, but in the meantime, two Akurian ships dropped into the system.
Vukoan Yushin, the chief ops officer on Alaska, reported. "The lead Akurian ship is hailing us."
Teyo nodded. "Put it on screen."
Vukoan shook her head. "I can't, the Akurians use audio only."
Teyo raised an eyebrow," Huh, curious, alright open a channel then."
Arina, the commander of the Guardian of Kio, got straight to the point.
"Alaska, this is Guardian of Kio, we are here to provide medical assistance for the Tuanko colony."
"I take it Zuko asked," Teyo replied.
Arina nodded. "Yep he did."
"O.k. well we will be leaving for the colony in a few minutes, just follow us there then." Teyo replied.
Arina acknowledged then closed the channel while the extra medical crews boarded the Alaska.
Feraan meanwhile was looking at the small chair as she let out a sigh. "Engineering this is the bridge, could you spare someone to install a new chair on the bridge?"
Cassel's voice came up. "Sure. Commander. What do you need?"
"I need a chair I can sit in and be comfortable." she sighed. "It'll only be for a couple of days... But all this standing around goes wearisome."
"No worries. I'm on my way up. Cassel out." as Feraan sighed softly. "This... is going to be irritating." the massive woman growled softly.
Yakawicha meanwhile went to sickbay where all the additional medical personnel would be arriving and he waited as they started to come in.
The doors opened and in walked two medical officers, one was a dark skinned human female who looked truly happy to be here. "Ensign Kadian Paris, reporting for work." she announced herself, as the second person with her let out a soft raspy sound as he peered down at the Doctor before him. "I am Toshnarr... Greetings..." he rasped softly.
The door opened and in came a smaller then average Bolian female who was a nurse. "Hello. I am Cheleya Dvald, reporting for duty." as a moderately pregnant human female came in moments later, duffel over one shoulder. "Is everyone here?" asked Commander Celeste Yamaguchi
Paris didn't move. "I have no idea.." as the door opened. "Now we're all here.... I am Se'yal." the Dranaei female smiled, the light from the overhead ceiling lights glinted off of her horns.
Yakawicha looked around at the motley crew that he had before him, so he did a quick and simple briefing," O.K. as you all know we are responding to a medical emergency on Tuanko colony. There is an outbreak of the Cardooine Chills, and the current medical staff is overloaded, so we are going to help."
The assembled medical personnel standing before him all traded looks.
"We will be ready sir." Paris smiled.
