Getting Underway/Change of Command - Part One

Mission: Mission 14: Rage Rage Rage Against the Dying of the Light
Location: Various Locations - USS Shadow
Timeline: 0900Hrs - April 15th, 2390

Rhiana was down in engineering helping get repairs done. They got word that the Warp Nacelle has been replaced and is in working order. There were just a few things that need to get finished in order for the ship to be underway including repairing the Slipstream drive which should take about 4 hours to repair. That was her main priority since she knows a lot about the drive and how it works.

"Maxwell the warp nacelle has been replaced and in working order. I will be working on the slipstream drive to get that back up and running. The Shadow should be able to leave spacedock by tomorrow morning at the latest." Rhiana stated.

There Maxwell nodded his head as he peered down towards the schematic and then shook his head. "Diagnostics are showing that there some variance.... Probably from one of the couplings being misaligned. Ah well, can't be helped when integrating new hardware." He commented with a joyous grin, before looking towards Rhianna and he nodded his head in agreement about it. "I'll have a crew look at the issue while you fine tune everything that you need for the slipstream calibration." He commented as he brought up the duty roster on a separate pad and he nodded his head, giving a grin. "I might even have time for a bit of testing of a new piece of junk..." He commented as he opened up a communication line to the Captain.

"Captain Yoshi. I got good news for you. We'll be able to move out mid morning."

Starbase 400, Webb's Quarters
Yoshi got word that the ship will be ready to leave by tomorrow at the latest. "David looks like we will be leaving tomorrow for a test run of the systems." Yoshi stated looking at David with a smile.

"Well, better make the most out of tonight, Saisai." David replied and kissed his wife deeply. He was ready to get back out there and work a mission. But he would dedicate this night to his wife before they had to leave. He noticed a slight flash on her face and knew her well enough to know something was wrong, "What is it? What's wrong?"

"I hate that you can read me like a book," Yoshi glared at him. She sighed, "I've gotten what I always wanted and worked for so long for. Both a command and a family."

"But...?" David asked.

"But a starship is no place to raise a child. Where we may be called into battle or an unknown situation at any moment. I know, I signed up for that, but Jadzia didn't. She deserves to grow up on Earth. In a real home," Yoshi replied.

"I agree," David replied.

"What?!?!" asked Yoshi, not expecting that answer from him. She asked, "Why didn't you say anything?"

"You had what you wanted, as you said. I didn't want to be the one to ruin it for you," David replied. He added, "It always worried me that with one lucky shot from the Romulans or Borg or something and the entire Sl---, I mean Webb family would be wiped out."

Yoshi smirked at David, still paranoid about saying his real name out loud in case a Section 31 listening device had been planted, "I don't think the Starbase quarters are bugged. I ordered them with too short of notice."

"You'd be surprised, someone with enough skill can make the whole Starbase's computer a bug," David shot her a glare, after looking carefully around their quarters.

"So what should I do? Resign?" asked Yoshi.

"Which would make you happiest? Being a Captain or being a Mother?" David asked.

"A mother," Yoshi smiled, yet tears of both sorrow that her Command would already be ending and happiness that her family was starting.

"Then yes, I think you should resign," David answered.

"Ok, I'll send in my resignation immediately. Are you resigning too?" Yoshi asked.

"No, I need to keep my mind active. But I will request a transfer to a desk job at Starfleet Headquarters," David replied. The couple went to the console in the room and send Yoshi's resignation letter and David's transfer request. They read the results a while later, both requests were approved. But they made David the Acting CO until the new Captain reports to claim the command of the Shadow.

"I'll inform the crew first thing in the morning," David said. He added, "We'll head to Earth after the new Captain assumes Command of the Shadow."

Marine Country
Major Ruhr looked over the formation of Marines. They were in full battle gear with weapons and field packs. Leadership had just finished the inspection.

"Alright everybody has everything. We'll probably be shipping out tomorrow. It may not be long before we encounter something. After we leave Star Base we'll form two QRFs. El Tee Tienn and Gunny Hobbs will lead them. I'll have the duty roster up tonight so remember to check it." Daisy told the Marines.

"Anything else Gunny?" Daisy asked.

"There is no excuse for missing duty, check the roster." Hobbs stated.

"Thanks Gunny. Anything from you Captain? Lieutenant anything to add?"

"I got two shipments in this morning, one of them is engineering related equipment for me, the second is explosives and other toys, also for me." Tienn explained. "I have a half dozen marines inventorying it now and putting it away in one of our cargo sections." she commented. "I'm still looking for six marines to serve as sappers, so far nobody has taken me up on it..." the small Bajoran woman commented.

"I will be running advanced sniper training for our sniper teams, those who wish to join please come and see me after this." Lilly finishes and nods to the Major to indicate she is finished.

"Thank you Captain." Daisy replied. "Lieutenant, I'll go over the Marine manifest and we'll find some assignments."

Tienn watched the Marine Exec as she spoke, her mind flashing back to what had happened between them, the smaller Bajoran had managed to put it out of her mind and not think on it until now as a smile crossed her lips. "Anyone need explosives training, come see me after this.." she commented. "I promise to be gentle."

Main Bridge
Meanwhile on the bridge. Commander Celeste Yamaguchi walked onto the bridge as the turbolift doors opened, upon arrival at her destination. the last week she had spent with her boyfriend had been rewarding for both of them, they were presently doing something of a long distance relationship with was causing both of them stress and strain. "Commander, telex for you." the human dark skinned woman greeted the officer of the watch.

Lt Commander Telios Wintersnow who was presently sitting in the center chair turned as she regarded the handsome human woman. "Whats up?"

Yamaguchi handed the Commander a PADD. "Our new personnel sir... all are aboard and are reporting for their checkups as needed." she explained. "Commander, one of these is related to you."

"Yes, my mother... Master Chief Warrant Officer Luhanna Wintersnow, she's a Computer specialist and a science officer."

"Nice.... must be odd though."

"No... not at all... Draenei live so long that its sometimes common to find entire families assigned together." Wintersnow explained.

Celeste raised an eyebrow. "Something the Federation is clearly investing time and people in." the dark skinned human explained.

Chief Diplomatic Officers Office
Jack is sat reading over the latest reports from the diplomatic corp on the situation in the area. But as ever with these reports they are dull and boring. He puts the PADD back on his desk and starts going over his paperwork and getting ready to depart from Starbase 400 having finally settled into his new role.

The Quartermasters Office
Quantin is doing the endless amount of paper work that comes with trying to return over 800 tri-quarters back to Starfleet supplies and then on top of that all of the other items that where unclaimed but like all good quartermasters the unclaimed items will remain in stores and the countless pile paperwork for them are now in a new filing cabinet to the right of his desk.

Quantin peering over endless records trying to find what happened to the rifles that where also miss ordered but for the life of him he is unable to find any paper trail of where they are. But senses they came on board they have not been seen. Then thinking to himself the rate the USS Shadow Marine detachment go through rifles they could do with them.
