Nearby from where the ladies were talking, in the kitchen. Yeager regarded the daughter he had lost before she was even born, now reunited at long last, he was determined to not damage or destroy this relationship the way he had done with the one he had with Sammy. "So, what's on your mind sweetie?" he inquired of the much smaller woman who had held her silence for the last ten minutes while the ladies in the main living area talked their issues out. "Mmm... Oh... I was unsure of how to tell you." Deepshadow started before she stopped.
Yeager regarded her in silence for a moment. "Tell me what?. Monique." he regarded her as he gently picked up a spatula and began cleaving up the dish of lasagna, he began portioning it out as Deepshadow launched into her tale. "All my life I wondered who daddy was... y'know and I wondered what sport of a man that he was... Would he come and save me from my misery... Mom was less than useless... She didn't even know who dad was..."
Yeager plated two a plateful of lasagna in silence. "I'm sure your mom had her reasons as to why she didn't look..." he answered with a gentle smile. "Maybe she didn't wish for you to be burdened with the knowledge that your dad was a guy who used your mom for her body..." he explained. "Or worse, he was a guy with a spouse and kids of his own, with no space for a foundling..."
"I know... But, I had to know, for my own curiosity..." Monique answered softly. "Then..."
"Then you acted on that curiosity and came to see me... What would you have said if I denied your paternity claim... Then you'd have gone back to get the DNA evidence to demand my attention..." as Yeager regarded the small female before him. "I know why..."
"You do?" Deepshadow asked softly, she wasn't sure if she wished to know but she decided to press ahead with it all the same. "Go on?"
"You wanted to look me in the eye, the man who was your father... The seed donor that impregnated your mother. The baby that your mother kept and decided to raise on her own... You." Yeager explained. "You wanted an explanation on why I could be so heartless, to abandon you to fates whims... and your mother's graces." Yeager watched her carefully as he explained himself.
Deepshadow held her silence as he continued, she was suddenly feeling very uncomfortable as he was landing a lot of hits on her.
Yeager regarded her. "But most important of all... Monique, you didn't know the first thing about me and so you dug into my history, my files... Oh, I know you looked into me, I would have done the same as you." he explained. "I mean... who is this guy, what sort of a man is he? does he have issues that he keeps away... That's when you found Talon, my second spouse... and then you found Sammy and then Melody... Two adult women who are family to me, one by blood and the other through marriage." he spoke while he served up another plate of lasagna. "one more... and then it's all for seconds. If anyone wants it. I know I do." Yeager grinned as he regarded his cooking. "If I do say so myself.."
"You cooked all this?" Deepshadow paused. "I didn't expect..." she admitted before she stopped.
"That I was also a Chef in my off hours..." Yeager regarded her. "Yes, I did. Talon helped me... But this was my cooking." Yeager explained with a gentle smile.
"Oh," Deepshadow answered, this was a revelation for her.
"Yes, I enjoy cooking," Yeager answered. "Talon and the kids can't get enough of my food either," he added. "But you've not had good home cooking, have you?"
"No, everything is always from a replicator," Deepshadow explained. "Aunt Miranda however, cooked her own good... It all tasted odd to me though."
Yeager frowned. "Mmm... I see..." he could say very little on the matter at hand. The look on his face said as much.
"You don't like my mother... Do you?" Deepshadow commented in a light tone that Yeager knew to be a warning. He had been around enough women to know a trap when he encountered one, he had done this often enough with Sammy and with Talon as well, except he found Talon to be very refreshing in that she didn't bait traps and set them, especially so easily. She tended to be more direct but the average woman was fond of verbal traps and pitfalls.
Yeager regarded her as he gently sighed. "I don't know your mother. Her trials or her tribulations... I may give the impression that I don't like her but its more that I don't know her..." he regarded her as he let out a soft sigh. "Monique... Had I known of you, I would have made arrangements for you... I would have asked your mother if she wouldn't have minded giving you to me full time... I would have raised you as my own alongside Sammy and done so quite happily."
"I thought... all this time, you were the average joe who wanted to command a ship," Deepshadow responded.
