Werner stood up as the three women entered the armory. For a moment the five were standing in a circle quietly looking at each other. Finally, Werner tried to speak up.
"Um," Werner started and then stopped. "Eyy...ur...aww." He fumbled his words.
Tamara spoke up. "Look, I know you don't know me very well and what you do know about me you don't like." She told him. "If you want me to transfer that's okay. I'm used to rejection."
"No!" Werner shot back. "No." He started gain in a normal voice. "No, I don't want you to leave." He took a long look at her. "Ya know, you ain't making these easy on me."
Duval regarded the two people before him. "Look... Mis.. Whatsyourname.... I'm Jeff Duval." he responded. "I'm here to ensure things don't get too out of control... The Major here is my opposite number and Tienn .... Well she's here as window dressing."
"I take that as a personal insult Sergeant Major." Tienn responded darkly.
"Good." Duval answered.
Werner wasn't sure if Duval was being serious or not but it helped him relax. He addressed Tamara again. "Alright, let me tell you something about me. Recently I was in a relationship with a female and it became very serious. So serious that I was considering marriage. Then she got pregnant with another person and we split up. It was very hard for me to deal with. After her I swore I would never get close to another person. I would deal with people personally or have casual sex with women but nothing beyond that. If you had talked to Gunther Werner a few hours ago he would have told you that relationships are for fools. Then you came along and turned everything upside down again."
"I know we are complete strangers so this is kinda awkward but I'm willing to put myself out there to have something with you." Werner told her.
"I'm not sure what to say." Tamara replied.
Tienn Kerris pursed her lips as she considered what to say. "Say nothing, accept it what what it is." she spoke the first words for over ten minutes. "But... that goes without saying... you will need to behave better then you have been Miss Harrak."
Duval nodded his head. "Gunther. Keep in mind that I've been in this position three times.... It doesn't hurt to talk to someone about it."
Werner was silent but did nod in agreement with Duval. He then took a deep breath. "Private Harrak, when you are dismissed here I want you to return to your quarters. Your restricted to them and the only other place you should be will be is your duty areas."
Tamara nodded. "Yes Gunnery Sergeant."
Tienn nodded her head. "Alright... This has gotten resolved... My presence here is no longer needed." and with that the Bajoran woman turned and departed in silence.
Duval regarded Werner in silence. "So... you two gonna be alright?" he inquired.
"Ya, I think so." He replied.
"I understand this is still new for you but what about our relationship?" Tamara asked Werner.
"That is still Gunnery Sergeant Werner to you Private." He scolded her. Tamara nodded and looked a little dejected. Werner added. "You can also call me Gunny and when your done with your extra duties then we figure something out." Tamara smiled a little.
"Your dismissed Private." Werner sternly told her. She came to attention then left.
"You got your hands full with her." Daisy told Werner.
Duval nodded. "You do... But you ain't alone in this... Its important for you both to know that.... You need any advice or a friendly ear. Thats what I'm here for... Well other then Daisy here.." he indicated the lovely looking Klingon woman. "When you speak with Orthos... Tell him I send my regards please?"
Daisy smiled at Duval. "Consider it done." She looked back at Werner. "That girl likes to fight, think she'll get under control?"
"That's okay Major. I know a hard headed goon who likes to fight as much as she does. So much so one wonders if they're related." He then turned his attention to Duval. "Thanks again Sergeant Major. You were a big help."
Duval raised an eyebrow. "Maybe you could take her under your wing... We got enough crazy bad asses as is.... One more won't be a bad thing, especially with some emotional and mental strength training."
"Yeah, I could do that." Werner told Duval. "Given that I missed teaching her for the first eighteen years of her life. I guess I owe her."
"But just because you are kin... Doesn't mean that either of you know each other... Be gentle with her.... she also needs to be gentle with you. Whatever you do... don't hide behind the rank... you can be her skipper but you can't always be her friend."
"True." Werner admitted. "And I am also her father. Only one person in the universe can hold that position for her and that is me."
"At least you're willing to embrace it." Duval paused. "Now that takes real courage my friend. To accept her as your own.... But if I may recommend.... you two both sit down and hammer out a few things when you and her get off watch,... preferably over a meal in the green dragon..."
"I thought she was banned from there?" Werner asked.
Duval nodded his head. "As long as she is with you, its fine." he responded. "Normally I don't lift bans... I make an exception in this case. Please impress upon her the gravity of that statement please?"
"I'll do that." Werner promised Duval.
