Mission 50: This Grey Spirit
Location: Inside the HD-385784-2395 Star System
Timeline: 1300Hrs November 24th, 2391
Captain Torilla Yamaguchi regarded the display before her as she watched the number three Gas Giant approach the Brown Dwarf. "I wonder if it'll ignite."
"Probably not.." Morales responded with a smile.
Torilla moaned softly. "Aww... raining in my fun again."
"Well... someone has to..." Morales responded. "Hows Jake doing?"
"He's...." Torilla paused a moment. "He's coping with what happened to him.... but he has a lot of nightmares and.... I'm awake with him..."
Morales nodded. "Sounds like with Heather, a couple of nights ago... nightmares so she kept me and her mom up most of the night."
Despite her exhaustion, Torilla smiled. "There is nothing like hanging out with the children, reassuring them that everything is gonna be okay... but Jake... he's ...a special case." were the words she settled on. A voice from the left side of the bridge cut through Torilla's thoughts with the force of a phaser blast between her and her Exec.
Sh'Ando's voice called out. "Sir, we're getting a distress call from the Fairfax. Lieutenant Commander T'Korah in command."
"Who's closest to their position?"
"The Akurian Battlecruiser, followed by us sir.."
"Helm take us there.... answer affirmative, were on our way."
Ryuukei was napping quietly on the couch in the back of Ryazar's command canter when the distress call came in. Untangling himself from Arumi, whom also woke up, Ryuukei asked. "whats going on."
Bihkami reported in," One of the federation destroyers is in trouble."
Bleary eyed but alert, Ryuukei commanded," Put it on open comm, and adjust heading."
Bihkami nodded. "Got it."
The distress call came in. "Mayday, mayday... This is the USS Fairfax, we are... caught... in the grip of a spaceborne lifeform, we are unable to dislodge it... its quite literally consuming our ship... mayday. mayday."
Yamaguchi raised an eyebrow. "What the hell?"
Ryuukei was fully alert now," Do we have a sensor lock."
Bihkami nodded," Yep, bringing it up now."
Everyone on the bridge looked at the attacking creature in surprise. The thing was several times larger than the destroyer it was attacking, and it prompted Ryuukei to command," Sound general quarters, all hands to battlestations. Load the main guns."
The guns on the battlecruiser loaded, and within 20 seconds, all the guns capacitors where charged. Ryuukei then commanded," Train the main battery on target and fire four rounds into it."
The main guns slowly trained and four guns elevated to get on target, and then four 200 cm lance round flew down range. Three rounds struck the cosmozoan directly, while the fourth glanced off the end of Fairfax's nacelles, shearing off the end."
Torilla watched as the event play out before her eyes. "Start beaming out Fairfax's crew." as she watched the spaceborne lifeform crunch down on Fairfax's superstructure. "Torpedoes... target that ... thing." she paused. "low yield.." she smiled because she paused. "Belay that... max yield beam it into Fairfax's drive systems. "Stand by.... are all of her crew out.?"
Duhamel turned his head. "I have them sir."
"Beam over the warheads... The raise shields... Advise the Akurians of the plan... and ask them to light this fuse so we can bolt."
Ryuukei looked at his tactical station," Load AP rounds, fire at will, all 200 and 100 cm guns."
Within 20 seconds, the Ryazar's shield unleashed the full fury of its main battery. Some of the rounds missed due to the interference, and the rest of the rounds hit their target indiscriminately, two rounds hit the stricken Fairfax, but over-penetrated, the rest of the rounds struck home on the creature, some rounds managing to pierce its thick hide, and one round going down its mouth before exploding."
Torilla nodded her head, while the space borne lifeform had issues processing what had just taken place before Fairfax's interlocks on her engines abruptly disengaged while the warheads that had been beamed over all detonated at about the same time, the uncontrolled mixing of matter and antimatter was nothing short of catastrophic.
Yamaguchi watched as the Fairfax turned herself into a massive fireball which seared the spaceborne lifeforms flesh as another several rounds exploded on it and inside it, as one of the rounds spent itself tearing through it as it exploded out of the side of the creature, spraying body parts, blood and splatter everywhere.
Ryuukei gave off a sigh, commenting. "Well that was eventful."
He then contacted the courageous. "So how is the destroyer's crew, did you manage to get them all."
Torilla turned to Morales who nodded. "They are all alive and well... and we got them all." he answered his CO's unspoken question and Ryuukei's spoken one.
Ryuukei sighed. "Well, at least something worked out. What the hell was that thing."
Master Chief Petty Officer Daniel McKnight's voice came over the com system. "That was a spaceborne lifeform... of a type never before encountered.... looked like a space version of a moray eel." he paused. "I want some samples for study.."
Yamaguchi shrugged as she turned to Jiao Anderson. "Arrange it... lets keep the man happy.."
Anderson nodded as she went to work. "Arranging it now."
Yamaguchi sighed. "Number One, double check with Commander T'Korah and see to his crews needs and wants, would ya"?
"I'm on it." Morales rose to his feet and moments later was gone from the bridge as Yamaguchi looked at the viewscreen with the now dead spaceborne lifeform, wreathed in the shattered remnants of the USS Fairfax floated on the astral winds. "Alright. Please let me know if there is any other way we can fuck up today?"
