Mission: Mission 43: Acts of Contrition
Location: Various Locations - USS Spirit of Winter
Timeline: morning - October 3rd 2391

Akaris Iven walked up to the observation deck where Spirit of Winter, the newest Noble class Heavy Cruiser was waiting, when she caught sight of an Arun Kurokuri, a species that she had seen very little of. Walking up to the kurokuri she commented, "Well, I don't see to many Kurokuri around here."

Renhai Wiku, looked behind her at Akaris, saying. "And Ayva Jorkuri aren't too common either, so, who are you."

"I'm Commander Akaris Ven," Akaris answered. "I have just been assigned as Spirit of winter's XO."

Renhai gave her a curious look. "Well, that's my ship as well, I'm Renhai Wiku, I'm assigned as CMO."

Akaris nodded, "Well, then looks like we will be working together than huh."

Rehai smiled, "yep." She then looked over at Spirit of Winter, where the airlock for the causeway just opened, "Well we might as well board soon, Spirit of Winter won't be here long."

Meanwhile down the hallway, came two more Starfleet officers, one of them was pushing a stroller, with three children concealed within as one of them was awake as she looked up at her mother while the other two were asleep.

Gabriel was carrying a backpack and two duffles, one in each hand, he also wore a sword in a sheath over his right shoulder and upon closer inspection, his wife wore the same thing. "You ready to be a Chief, Savannah?"

"No.." she answered bluntly. "We just get settled into life on Watchman when they call us back for this... and we were there less than a month. I mean really... I wish they'd quit playing with us.." Savannah answered.

Gabriel smiled, he felt as his wife did. "Tell me about it..." he responded. "Oh look... more of those guys off of the Roanoke..." he sighed. "Still no word from mom?

Savannah shook her head. "Not a peep from mom... its like she disappeared almost two months ago."

Akaris looked at the new arrivals, saying, "Are you all assigned to the Spirit of Winter?"

Gabriel nodded his head. "Yes we are." he responded calmly. "What about you guys?" he inquired, as he had no idea of their ranks or the like.

Akaris looked over at Renhai, "Yeah so are we, I'm the new XO so it seems."

"Oh.." Savannah paused as she shared a look with her husband. "Sorry about that Commander.," she added.

Gabriel simply sighed. "Great."

Renhai just gave a purring sigh while Akaris commented, "Don't have to worry about addressing me or Renhai here by rank, we are both Akurian's, we prefer first names."

"Oh.." both Gabriel and Savannah again shared a look. "People that are practical... " he mumbled. "Well I had it on good authority that you guys didn't like being addressed formally or formality of any kind." Gabriel commented.

Suddenly a rather nasally British voice came over the comm, "This is Captain Bernard Montgomery, all senior officers report to the conference room at once." he was careful to enunciate his name and rank so that none misunderstood him.

Gabriel and Savannah sighed. "Shit.. We gotta run..."

Meanwhile up on the conference lounge, Montgomery stood with his hands clasped behind his back, his uniform looked clean and neat, it was pressed and one couldn't be too surprised if he actually ironed it.

Commander Marcus Duval walked in, his uniform was supplemented by the Engineers jacket and a kit over his back, he pulled it off before he set it down by his feet. "Mornin Skippy."

"Address me with respect, stand at attention when you address me!" Montgomery growled.

"Yeah, whatever man.." Duval responded dryly, he said as the door opened and some more people came in.

Renhai and Akaris both walked in next but neither said anything immediately.

Montgomery growled. "How are you... you will address me as sir at all times.... is that clear?"

"Yeah... Sir." Duval answered bluntly. "Sorry Shipmaster."

"Shipp...what!" Montgomery growled. "I AM The rightful CAPTAIN of this ship."

Duval simply shrugged.

Akaris and Renhai looked at each other with a worried look as the other department heads shuffled into the room. Neither particularly wanted to intervene.

The door opened and in walked Savannah Yamaguchi followed by her husband, Gabriel Yamaguchi. "Hello everyone." as she selected a seat, then she noticed the tension in the room.

Gabriel raised an eyebrow as he sat down next to his wife.

The Chief Security officer, a French woman named Bernadette Chevalier with the rank of lieutenant walked in.

Gabriel settled in to watch the drama as he smiled. "Is everyone here?"

"I have no idea Lieutenant.." Montgomery responded as the door opened and in walked a middle aged woman wearing the rank of Master Chief. "Mornin Captain."

"Ah... now that we are all here... I am Captain Sir Bernard Law Montgomery and I am commanding officer of this vessel." he explained. "I tend to prefer things a little more formally then you might be used to... I am to be addressed as 'Sir' and 'Captain' at all times... the same will go for anyone of senior rank. That is how I prefer things in my presence.."

Akaris just looked at Renhai with a look of, 'Oh wonderful, one of those.' Renhai just gave off a vary quiet sigh, one that their captain wouldn't hear.

Montgomery raised an eyebrow. "Why are you people out of uniform?." he inquired as Seleste lifted her hand to her face as she facepalmed.

Gabriel simply smiled as he tried not to laugh as the Captain regarded the aliens. "As my Exec... you need to set an example and wear a uniform.... how did you get to that rank without wearing uniform?"

Gabriel's eyes caught the Chief of the Boats as she commented. "Captain, the Kurokuri have dispensation to not wear uniform, it affects their body's health."

"What?" Montgomery responded. "That sounds like a load of Codswallop to me... Doctor?"

Renhai rolled her eyes, this time saying it outloud, "Clearly captain, you have never served with either Akurians or Eeiauoan's before."

She pulled out her padd detailing the medical profile related to the issue and put it on the table in front of him, mentioning, "these profiles are signed by the head of starfleet medical by the way, no little captain is going to be able to overrule them. Our only required uniform item is a rank badge."

Neither Akaris or Renhai where wearing it the same way. Akaris had hers strapped to her arms, while Renhai had hers attached to a lanyard.

"You are relieved." Montgomery responded. "And you are dismissed."

Even the Chief of the Boat blinked as her jaw dropped open. "What the fuck..." she muttered.

Renhai smiled stood up, and walked out the door giving him a wave," Thank you I needed some time off, bye, see you later." She then disappeared out the door.

Montgomery twitched as he went purple with rage. "What!" he grunted as he sat down. "Right... who is my second officer?, you are now my acting Exec.."

Akaris had no idea, thinking that he must have confused Renhai as his exec, prompting her to say, "Uh, Captain, I'm the Exec, she was supposed to be CMO."

Montgomery sighed. "Oh dear god..." he sighed softly. "Fine, I need a New CMO... is there anyone aboard this ship who can at least to that job without being disrespectful?"

Akaris didn't have an answer, as she had no knowledge of the crew roster, so she didn't answer him on the matter.

Montgomery sighed as he tapped his combadge. "Conference Lounge to sickbay, send me the most experienced and senior person you have please"

"Aye Captain. I'm on my way." as a female voice responded, a few minutes later the door opened and in walked Lieutenant Autumn Yamaguchi. "Sir, Lieutenant Autumn Yamaguchi, reporting as ordered." she was not a large woman as she took in the scene at a glance, her five foot frame did not hide much as she stood near the door.

"Excellent, someone who is respectful.. take a seat Lieutenant.." Montgomery responded. "Now. we're all heading to Starbase 12 as we have orders to report there on the double. " he looked around the room. "We are to join a battlegroup that's forming up at the base. For what purpose I do not know..."

Akaris had actually done some research on the subject, Addressing the group rather than specifically Montgomery, she said, "We will be joining the USS Roanokes battlegroup, commanded by commodore Zara Tane. Our role will be fighter and missile defense of the battlegroup, along with the USS Toronto. Also we will have Akurian personnel coming onboard to make adjustments to our weapon systems and shields when we get there."

Montgomery nodded. "We will have six weeks to ourselves to work this crew up after the techs and the like, refit the ship."

Akaris looked at her notes, adding," According to this, we will be in dock for 4-5 weeks, the modifications are quite significant, but wont take long to implement with a ship as new as Spirit of Winter. after that the battlegroup will continue its colony support mission."

Marcus Duval nodded. "Sounds good... I'll have my guys look into it."

Sathyamoorti smiled. "So we're getting a refit to our tactical and defensive systems... good."

"Once I get the specs.. I can start scheduling some drills for my department." Gabriel explained.

Akaris nodded, "Yep, we will have a starfleet R&D crew come aboard as well as Akurian Personnel, The new weapons will be the upgraded version on the Heavy quantum missiles and our structural integrity fields and phaser systems are going to be re-tuned."

Montgomery raised an eyebrow. "How old is this technology?" he inquired

Savannah raised an eyebrow. "Sounds like someone did their homework.."

Akaris looked at Montgomery, "Very new, captain, its basically an emergency upgrade to our ships systems to allow us to contend with the fact that the romulans now have Akurian weapons technology.

Montgomery raised an eyebrow. "Indeed?" he responded flatly. "How did they acquire that sort of technology or does anyone know?"

Akaris shrugged," Dont know captain, from what I know, starfleet intel is looking into the matter."

"Very well... Then I will leave the matter with them." he responded. "We should reach Starbase 12 soon and then we'll proceed with the refit." as Montgomery sighed softly.
