Mission: Mission 39: By Fire be Purged
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 1100Hrs - August 2nd, 2391

Flight Tech Rachael Yamaguchi gently sat up as she spotted Ennis who poked his head through the door to her recovery room. "Hey." Rachael greeted him. "You look half dead..." she responded softly. "Come on in..."

"I thought I'd lost you," Ennis spoke with worry. "Spinal fracture. Minor, luckily. Doctor Furban would have worked on you personally, if not for Colonel Sullivan's injuries."

Ennis handed Rachael a yellow rose as he sat beside of her told and kiss her hand.

Rachael nodded. "I know.." she said quietly. "One moment I was running, then next thing I know... it was like a massive metal fist was hammering me to the ground... I wish I knew what happened.." she paused as she sniffed the rose. "Ennis... you have no idea how happy I am to see you..." she smiled. "did Saki, Sarah and Daniel come through alright?"

"Oh they are very happy to hear you're fine," Ennis told his beloved. "Olmos is watching them right now. Said she needed a distraction, after the long run... Phoenix was the one that got you to the transporter site, before she ran back into the fray for more. Pulled three more unconscious people out of the rec room before she passed out from smoke inhalation."

Rachael's blood pressure spiked. "Is she?" she whimpered softy. "Phoenix... no.."

"She's alive," Ennis assured as he gently hugged Rachael. "She's in a clean room. Severe lung damage. Doctor Furban repaired them, but Phoenix is very vulnerable to even minor colds right now."

Rachael buried her face into Ennis's shoulder. "Oh how the hell did we get here?" she asked softly, tears streaming down her face. "All it was was a simple training hop... and everything went to shit... we lost everything.."

"Nah," Ennis waved aside with a bright smile. "You got Saki.... and you got me and our kids, if you want us."

He pulled out a twenty-four carrot ring with an oval-shaped diamond in a deep setting to keep it snug. Then he placed it on his love's left index finger.

Rachael saw the ring before she burst into tears, moments later the door opened as Elizabeth looked at Ennis. "Is she alright?"

Rachael simply held up her hand with the ring on it. "Ennis... proposed."

"Thats fantastic." Elizabeth responded. "Mom and Dad are here... do you want to see them?"

"Yeah... its time they met Ennis..."

Elizabeth smiled as she turned back towards the entrance, as she waved on the two people standing nearby. "Rachael is alright... her boyfriend is visiting her now... but she is still weak from the spinal damage and the flash burns... so she's going to be out for a couple of days."

Torilla nodded. "You two are alright.. that's what counts.."

"We lost too many mom.." Elizabeth had to fight the urge to break down and cry. "I was the one... doing triage..." as she paused a second time, the urge clearly getting stronger. "I decided..." as Jake gently gave his eldest daughter a gentle hug. "Its okay... you did what you had to do... I'm proud of you for that.."

Torilla decided to go and visit her third child and let Jake have a moment with Elizabeth, she poked her head around the doorway. "Hey!" she greeted Rachael who looked at her mother. "Hey mom." she paused. "Mom, meet Ennis Cullen, my fiancee..." as she indicated her mother. "Ennis... this is Torilla Yamaguchi, my mother... dad is around the corner... helping Elizabeth with her guilt."

Ennis, ever the gentlemen, stood up from his spot on the bed. Then he bowed and gestured to his spot. "It's only right you sit with her Ma'am."

Torilla shook her head, her eyes giving him the once over as she smiled upon spotting the ring on Rachael's hand. "No... you should remain there... considering." she indicated Rachael's hand before she gently shook Ennis' hand. "I keep hearing about you... they tell me so many good things that I had to wonder if you were actually real..."

"I'm sorry mom, I meant to introduce you two sooner.... but.... things kept getting in the way."

"Don't worry about it..." Torilla responded with a smile. "I'm glad to see that the stories about you were not exaggerated... getting Saki motivated is frighteningly easy but getting her off the subject is next to impossible.."

"I simply try to challenge her intellect, while encouraging her to be herself," Ennis spoke very respectfully as he bowed to his elder. "She's a smart lass than most realize."

Torilla smiled cheerfully at him. "Like I said... Saki thinks the world of you.." she responded as she sat down in one of the other chairs nearby. "Its been a long night..." she looked at Ennis. "How are you coping with events?"

"Olmos gave me a six hours, before going back at it," Ennis explained. "A lot of shrapnel wounds near the spines and in the heads... Bit chaotic, but I wanted ta see my bonnie before I laid down. Let her know I love her."

Rachael paused, she had never heard Ennis say that before but she relized as she regarded her mother who had a similar look of surprise o her own face. "I love you too Ennis." Rachael responded.

Torilla was speechless as Jake peered around the corner. "Is it safe to enter?" he inquired. "Rachael.. you look better then you did this morning."

"Dad... come in... this is Ennis.."

"Ahh.. The legend himself.. I was wondering when and if I'd get to meet you." Jake responded cheerfully. "Jake Yamaguchi... the dad of your lady there." he indicated Rachael.

"I had every intention of asking to court your daughter," Ennis spoke apologetically to both of them. "To assure you that my intentions are to respect her and love her as long as she'll have me."

Jake and Torilla shared a look. "Its alright... lots of things seem to keep happening." Jake responded. "Rachael and Saki both have spoken of you... and we trust our children to make the right choices when the time calls for it." Jake explained "I have no need to be the overprotective father... I'm just glad to have met you at last." and with that Jake shook the man's hand. "How did you two meet anyway.... I'll admit I'm dying to know."

Ennis shared an uneasy look. "I was here to discuss neurological journals with Doctor Furban during what your ship calls 'Peeves's' fiasco... Not how I intended to start a courting, I assure you, Sir."

Torilla chuckled. "Some of the best sex I ever had." she responded in a dry tone. "Rachael never told us what happened to her... Elizabeth did." Torilla's eyes shone with mirth. "Rachael?"

"It was... fantastic... What can I say?" Rachael responded with a smile as she shrugged her shoulders and tried not to laugh..

Jake chuckled. "I think I was the only one who didn't get laid ... several times that day." he responded. "Don't worry about things... Rachael met a real man and that's all I ever could ask."

"I am blessed to have found her too," Ennis spoke endearingly. "How I wish I could stay here until you are well, My Love."

Rachael smiled as she gently kissed him. "I know you got things to do and I don't want to keep you from them... but I'll be out of here soon enough..." she said quietly as she smiled at him.

Ennis leaned forward and kissed Rachael on the forehead. "Focus on getting well, My Love."

Just then Siaxx came around the corner as she skidded to a halt. "Woah. Crowded in here." she breathed out. "Rachael... I don't mean to be a pain... but mind if I give you a quick check?"

"Sure Siaxx... I'm learning to enjoy being an exhibitionist... getting poked and prodded in front of my intended will greatly help my mood."

"Intended.?" Siaxx asked. "Wait...when.. what?"

Rachael smiled. "Ennis proposed to me... and I accepted.."

"Rachael.. that's wonderful news.." Siaxx sat down at her bedside as she produced her tricorder. "this won't take long... I'm asking because I need the bed... and... while you are weakened... I'm going to kick you out if you pass." she paused as she smiled. "Excellent."

Rachael paused. "That bad?"

"Sorry my dear.. you are being evicted." Siaxx responded. "Besides.. your own bed will really help you... plus you can ask Saki to look after you for a change... I'm sure she'll love it."

Jake raised an eyebrow. "Rachael... we'll give you a few minutes to get dressed, then I'm going to carry you... to your place I assume?" he said to Ennis. "Considering you'll become my second son in law... I'll definitely sleep better knowing Rachael is out of harms way and being looked after."

Rachael sighed as Siaxx handed her a new uniform. plus undergarments which were Rachael's size before she gently gave Rachael a hug. "Congratulations again." and with that she departed, followed by Torilla who was more gentle in her congratulations. "Nice work sweetie, you netted a real man..." then she departed.

"Well Ennis... I'll be back in a few minutes to carry her out of here.. I'll give you two a moment.." and with that Jake turned and departed, leaving Rachael and Ennis alone.

"You have an interesting family," Ennis laughed in kind while he offered to help Rachael out of bed. "You want to heal up at your folks' or my place?"

Rachael was wearing only a nightgown as she smiled. "Your place. Mom and Dad have enough trouble... besides.. you just proposed to me so... we should celebrate it properly." as she gave him an impish smile before she peeled off the clothing she wore, then she began to dress.

"Not until you are cleared," Ennis spoke semi-sternly, as he kissed her again. "I don't want you to overdo it."

Rachael gave him a look that said she was disappointed. "I'll be gentle.." she responded, as smile appeared on her face. "I'll be a good girl.. I promise.." as she pulled on her pants. "I take that as a no??"

"Cuteness wont bend the rules, no," Ennis confirmed with much sadness.

Rachael sighed softly before she gently kissed him on the lips. "Alright.." she responded as she pulled on her undershirt and she pulled on her uniform top over the top of it. "I think I'm able to walk... if I'm gentle about it." as she gently picked up the yellow rose. "still.." as she gently inhaled its scent. "mmmm.."

"A yellow rose for a gentle beauty," Ennis explained wholeheartedly.

Rachael blushed a darker shade of chocolate. "Mmm..." as there was a gentle knock on the door. "Come in."

The door opened and in came Jake. "You guys okay?" he inquired. "Sweetie... you ready to go?"

"She is Sir," Ennis answered respectfully. Then he kissed her on the cheek and smiled, "I'll see you soon, My Love."

Jake smiled, it was very seldom he ever encountered a man like this. "You're not coming with us Ennis?" Jake inquired. "I thought Rachael was heading to your place over on the Tranquility."

Rachael nodded. "Yep that's the plan." she responded. "Did Saki take any of the cats with her?"

"A few of them, yes," Ennis laughed. "She and Sarah have been chasing them here and there."

Rachael looked annoyed. "Saki better not be being mean to them.... or I will be most.... displeased." she she responded. "I heard about Shonax and the Phoenix faceplant incident."

"Faceplant?." Jake looked at his daughter. "I'm guessing a story I missed."

"Yes.. Saki was tormenting Shonax with prey... and you know how wild he is.."

"I'll leave that one with you two." Jake responded darkly.

Rachael smiled. "Alright. lets get out of here before that hot Bolian decides she wants to spank me."

"I didn't need that picture.. Thanks Rachael."

"It is a fairly epic tale I'm sure the kids will love to tell," Ennis laughed wholeheartedly. "Phoenix was lucky she did not crack her skull open."

Jake raised an eyebrow. "Wait.. the kids will tell me that Siaxx spanked Rachael...wait what?"

Rachael laughed. "Now that... would be an epic tale."

"I would be very jealous too," Ennis winked at Rachael.

Rachael regarded her father. "Well... I'm ready to.. woah." she got out as Jake gently picked up his daughter in his arms, it was a long time since he had done this to her but she didn't object as he carried her out the door and moments later, out of sickbay.
