Lt Commander Siaxx Dvald blinked as she woke up in her bed as she looked around, her gaze settling on the large empty chunk of the bed where Phoenix was usually located, except now Siaxx was finding it hard to sleep alone. "Dammit Jill... why did you have to be so brave?" Siaxx asked of the empty spaces around her.
The small Bolian gently slipped out of bed to find that she was asleep wearing her uniform. "How did I get here.... did Fordring carry me home?" she asked herself as she went out into the main area. "Hey Aryssa." she smiled at the teen that she was sharing her home with.
"I carried you," Aryssa yawned. "They wouldn't let me go ta see Jill so I waited around for you."
Siaxx looked crestfallen. "I'm Sorry... I would have told you not to wait for me... had I known how bad Phoenix was going to be.... but we were up to our... necks in wounded..". Despite the fact it was warm in the room, Siaxx shivered. "I don't know how I'm going to get over what I saw.." she admitted, her eyes going wide. "Blood... everywhere.."
"Jill'll pull through. She always does," Aryssa spoke very admirably. "She cut 'er arm off to escape a burnin' fighter once."
Siaxx nodded. "That's how she got her prosthetic... I actually never asked her that story.." the small Bolian crossed the living space as she sat down on the sofa. "I can't sleep..." she admitted. "It was ugly down there.... I'm glad you weren't there to see it.." Siaxx admitted.
"I thought I might sneak to the kitchen tomorrow mornin' and see if the cook would let me fix something for the captain," Aryssa pointed out. "She doesn't seem all that happy either, when I saw her in Sickbay."
Siaxx regarded the teen. "You really like it... being in the kitchen I mean?" she inquired. "I can ask the cook to let you... if you want.. What would you make the skipper... if you could?"
"Cinnamon pancake made with buttermilk. Three mild sausage patties," Aryssa began and smiled, "With jumja syrup on the pancakes... Lieutenant Benice has the real deal on tha jumja though. Private stock of hers I've seen her bring to pancake breakfest days."
"Sounds like you enjoy it.." Siaxx smiled. "Could you see yourself making a career out of being a chef in Starfleet?"
"I suppose... I mean, I like ta fly, but cooking is more my love," Aryssa admitted sheepishly. "...So is Jill gonna recover?"
Siaxx smiled. "I'm glad you found something..." she paused. "As for Jill... she will... with time, patience and love.."
"So are you like... my stepmom now?" Aryssa asked with slight confusion, for changing the subject seemed a good idea.
"If you wish." Siaxx answered. "For you are almost an adult in Terran terms and honestly... I do not have that right in any event... considering we don't exactly get along most of the time.."
"Getting along or not doesn't mean nothing," Aryssa pointed out with a small smile. "You're a Sullivan now. Means you're of tha clan."
Siaxx regarded the teenager for a long moment, her brown eyes giving nothing away. "Alright.." she responded. "Considering our track record. One could have expected homicide however.."
"It's in the Irish blood ta fight, Siaxx," Aryssa laughed in kind. Then she held her hand out. "I am willing to start fresh with you, if you like."
"Well considering your mom doesn't like fighting.. I sometimes wonder." before she took Aryssa's hand. "I'd like that.. but I'm worried about your relationship with Jill... you two never got along until just recently."
"She was my sister, 'til six months ago," Aryssa admitted with pain in her eyes. "I know she loves me, but I grew up with her as my sister... it's just all weird now."
"Aryssa... It doesn't matter how she loves you... Its important that she does... and that you know she does.." Siaxx responded. "The trouble is... a lot of people have lied to you and Jill knows she must sort things out with you."
"You haven't lied to me," Aryssa pointed with with a small smile. "So we already have a good point to start on."
"I make it a point to be honest to everyone... Its part of my job.." Siaxx replied softly. "All a good doctor has is her word sweetie." she added. "I take my work most seriously.. and not even Jill questions that while others... might."
"You do like to prank folks," Aryssa laughed.
"I've not done a good prank in far too long... the Terran festival of Halloween is still months away... and I owe people a little revenge.." a rather innocent smile appeared on the small Bolians face. "Did I say that out loud?"
"Clan rule, never to betray tha family," Aryssa winked.
"That goes without saying." Siaxx answered. "Besides... Siaxx Sullivan.." she paused as if trying it on for size. "Different but... has a certain ring to it... what do you think?"
