Mission: Mission 46: Picking up the pieces
Location: Disputed Romulan space
Timeline: 1200Hrs - November 3rd, 2391

"Captain, we are coming out of warp." Foscatini told Harp.

"Very good Mister Foscatini." Harp replied. "Mister Wong, what do sensors show?"

"Um..." Wong looked at her screen. "This can't be right? It doesn't make sense."

"Ensign Wong, I don't care if it doesn't make sense to you." Harp scolded Wong. "What do you read?"

"Yes, Captain." Wong replied sheepishly. "There is a large vessel pulling energy from the nearby star."

"Can you double check that?" Harp asked Wong. "Mister D'Havilend, check to make sure the sensors are calibrated."

"That is what I am reading." Wong replied.

"Sensors are calibrated." D'Havilend told Harp.

"Put a visual up of the vessel." Harp ordered. A large black ship had a steam of light blue energy it was drawing from a nearby star.

"Anyone seen this before? Mister Kolowrat, your the tactical officer." Harp asked.

"Nothing I've ever seen." Kolowrat told her. "From the looks of it, it has a lot of power."

"Alright, I'm calling in support." Harp informed the crew. "Courageous, this the Pinto. Need possible back up to situation."

The com system frizzed a little but the response came back strong. "This is the Courageous. Go ahead Pinto?"

"This is Commander Harp. We have an alien vessel tapping energy from the system's star." Harp informed Siranna. "It might destabilize the star."

Captain Torilla Yamaguchi raised an eyebrow as she slowly rose to her feet. "Do you require assistance with your situation?" she inquired. "Helm... lay in a course... but don't engage yet."

"I would like some support." Harp replied. "We are dealing with an alien ship that is much more powerful than ours."

"Confirmed." Yamaguchi responded. "Helm. proceed.. maximum warp...engage when ready."

"Aye Captain." came the response.

Torilla watched the stars turn into starlines as her ship leapt forward.
Helm time till arrival?"

Morales turned his head. "Captain... the three destroyers are keeping up with us."

TAG:

"Captain," Wong called to Harp, "The star is starting to become erratic."

"How much time before it destabilizes?" Harp asked.

"I don't know, maybe an hour, maybe less." Wong replied.

After a short time, three small vehicles exited the alien ship.

"What are those?" Harp asked.

"They are unarmed and unmanned." Wong replied.

The three small drones then began to circle the energy stream. Soon, they created an energy ring around the stream in front of the ship. Then, the ring started to fill with energy. A translucent energy disk was created on the energy stream.

"What the hell is that?" Harp asked.

"I don't know." Wong admitted. "But the energy level is incredible."

Then, the other ships arrived on scene.

there were four flashes of energy as the Courageous and three other ships airved on scene. "This is the Courageous. Pinto. whats your status?" there was a pregnant pause. "Launch all starfighters."

"Courageous, this is Pinto." Harp responded. "The star is becoming erratic and could destabilize. We need to destroy that stream."

"Confirmed." Yamaguchi's response came back. "Hailing then now... and no response.... not like we expected any."

On board the Obsidian Ark, Arrel, a modified Romulan officer was looking over the sensors on the bridge.

"Master, several Star Fleet vessels are now in the system. They are hailing us and have launched fighters." Arrel noted.

"Disengage the gate and put us into warp." Nuhlwrath told Arrel.

"But Master," Arrel protested, "It took us three years to set this gate up. We have much more firepower than the Star Fleet ships. We can destroy them."

"And where would the Star Fleet vessels get repaired?" Nuhlwrath asked.

"There is a repair facility nearby." Arrel asked.

"And could they replace their losses?" Nuhlwrath asked.

"Of course, they have many ships." Arrel replied.

"And where would we repair any damages?" Nuhlwrath asked.

"It would be difficult." Arrel told his master.

"We cannot afford to get this ship damaged." Nuhlwrath told Arrel. "Disengage the stream and take us into warp."

"But the gate?" Arrel asked.

"I have no intention to leave it with those primitive creatures." Nuhlwrath informed Arrel. "As we go into warp, destroy the gate."

"Captain," Wong alerted Harp, "The alien ship is disengaging and going into warp. The ship is powering some sort of plasma weapons and getting ready to fire!"

Meanwhile on the Courageous, Torilla narrowed her eyes. "Talk to me goose?"

Jiao Anderson who was seated at Operations was conferring with the science officer. "running my scans now... impressive ship." she commented. "their firepower exceeds ours... their armor can also handle a lot of abuse too."

"Sir.. they are powering their main weapons."

"All units open fire..!" Torilla responded. "Target their weapons and shields.."

Fire from the Star Fleet vessels hit the Obsidian Ark and the alien ship's shields flared up. It was uncertain if the weapons damaged it. Three plasma shots came from the Obsidian Arks hull. They were not aimed at Federation ship but at the gate.

The plasma shots hit home and the gate started erupting.

"Captain!" Wong shouted that ball of energy is about to explode!"

"Helm!" Harp yelled "Get us out of here!"

Yamaguchi saw it too. "recall our birds quickly." she said loudly as her Exec nodded. "CAG, Land your warbirds quick... that ... whatever that thing is is going to blow up... anyone too far away, have them bang out."

Courageous began to rotate on her center axis, to give her birds more time to land and to make it easier. "Jiao, have our escorting destroyers
clear out of this place.."

"Yessir." the smaller woman at Operations went to work as the three destroyers flashed into warp along with over three dozen of the fighters. "They are going to meet us at rendezvous one."

"Understood." Yamaguchi responded as she watched the tactical display, all her baby birds remaining were crowding, trying to get into the hanger bays before time ran out. "Come on, my little ducklings, we have got to go.." as the noticed the one destroyer nearby. "Courageous to Pinto... Whats your status, are you hit?"

"We seem to be stuck!" Harp replied, almost in a panic. "The sphere of energy seems to be pulling us in!" Harp then looked at Foscatini. "Can we get out?"

"We can't pull free!" Foscatini told Harp. "The pull is two powerful. Requesting we go to warp."

"Yes, do it!" Harp told her. "Pinto to Courageous, we are going to try and go to warp speed to pull us out."

The last of Courageous warbirds landed on her flight decks. "Talk to me Jiao?"

"We can't get close enough sir.."

"Start evacuating her crew then, write the ship off but save their-"

"Negative... the gravity well is deepening.. We've got to go now... and I can't get a transporter lock,, the gravity well is warping their signals."

"We can't just write them off.." Torilla responded.

"Captain, if we don't leave now... we never will... " Anderson responded.

"Torilla... She's right... We've got to go."

"Helm... get us outta here!" as the Courageous shot forward into warp, away from the battle zone.

"We are still getting pulled in!" Harp yelled at Foscatini.

"The warp engines aren't strong enough!" the ensign told Harp.

"Lieutenant Kolowrat, focus the shields on point of impact." Harp ordered.

"Done Captain." He acknowledged.

"Brace for impact!" Harp shouted over the comm.

The Pinto was then pulled in the sphere of crackling energy. The sphere then exploded.

On the bridge of the Courageous. Torilla tured her head. "Any sign of Pinto"?

"No sir." Morales responded. "Everyone else escaped."

"Dammit.. one ship lost with nearly a hundred souls aboard her." Torilla sighed softly as the few warbirds scattered around all began making for her hanger decks. "Alright... once everyone is aboard, set a course back to Starbase 12. I will inform the Admiral.. She is not going to like this."

"Courageous, this is the Hara." Ariennye hailed Torilla. "Request that my ship be allowed to search the area for seventy two hours. We might find some survivors." It sounded as if Ariennye was trying to convince herself as much as Torilla.

Yamaguchi nodded. "Permission Granted Captain... I wish you good hunting." Torilla responded. "I hope you find something.."
