Mission:
Mission 44: Operation Bedlam
Location: Various Locations - USS Argonne
Timeline: 0945Hrs October 6th 2391
Hobbs shuffled along the corridor of the Argonne. Blood from her nose and mouth still trickled down her face. Devon might have knocked one of her front teeth out when he stomped on her face. Two security guards loyal to Nye pushed her along. She was completely sapped of energy as she moved to her cell.
Ahead in the corridor Ryngwyth and Shalvari stood to one side and watched the security detail walk past. One of the security guards looked at Shalvari with a smile and loudly told her "That's what she gets for her disobedience."
Shalvari smiled back. The guard was puzzled for a moment and then the engineer pulled out a palm phaser and shot the guard. The other guard leved his assault phaser but before he could fire was shot by Ryngwyth.
Hobbs was a little surprised. "Thank you but I'm still shackled." She stated while holding up her bound hands.
"I'm an engineer." Shalvari told Hobbs. "I can get through those in less than a minute." And pulled out a tool and removed Hobbs' bonds.
Ryngwyth picked up the two assault phasers and handed one to Hobbs. "Good, lets get to the bridge." Hobbs told them.
"Not that easy." Ryngwth replied. "Nye has control of the ship. We had enough problems getting through some of the bulkheads. I couldn't have gotten to you without Shalvari. Nye has the ship closed down."
Hobbs let out something inaudible but from what the two could decipher it sound like a curse. "How did this happen?" Hobbs asked.
"That little toad Snee had a program installed. The computer only recognizes marine officers in the chain of command. I tried to hack it but I couldn't. The whole computer core is going to have to be shut down in a Starbase to pull it off line." Shalvari told Hobbs.
Hobbs grimaced. "Alright, let's get down to sick bay. Maybe we can round up some warm bodies before we have to attack the bridge." The trio then followed Shalvari down one of the jeffries tubes.
Arumi got some of the latest reports from the planets surface. Ryuukei and Weyai where both badly injured, the situation on the ground had completely fallen apart. Sergeyev stormed into the Command center, barely containing his anger," How bad is it."
Arumi gave him a look of almost despair," Its, its an absolute trainwreck, too many people are dying senselessly."
Sergeyev tightened his resolved then offered," Then lets finish this, the only way we are going to stop this, is we have to take Nye out."
Arumi nodded," Agreed."
Meanwhile in Argonne's sickbay. Doctor Anjou was finishing up a patient on the surgery table when a scub clad orderly came to him. "Doctor Anjou, there are armed marines in sickbay's command area."
"Ah bloody hell!" Anjou cursed. "Thank you orderly." He then looked at the head nurse. "Close her up. I have to deal with some green suited thugs." And then left the surgery.
As Anjou entered the command suite he took notice of Hobbs. "Shouldn't you be planet side?"
"Nye had me relieved of command." Hobbs told him. "That is why I'm here. I need some walking wounded to take back the bridge. How many can come with me?"
Anjou thought for a moment. "None." Anjou told Hobbs.
"What! Why?" A shocked Hobbs asked.
"Those people are wounded. Even in good health a close quarters fire fight is horrible enough. Wounded marines will be at a serious disadvantage. I'm not going to authorize it." Anjou explained to Hobbs.
"What! So your not going to help?" Hobbs asked with desperation in her voice.
"What do you want me to do?" Anjou shot back. "I'm a doctor. All I can do is proscribe the Colonel bed rest."
There was a silence as Anjou spoke the answer.
"Wait, Snee couldn't have been that careless." Shalvari told the others. "That program took some effort to install. Would he forget that the chief medical officer can remove the commanding officer?"
"Snee doesn't follow protocol very carefully." Hobbs replied. "He might have missed that."
"I am not going to know unless I attempt it." Anjou told them. "Computer: This is Lieutenant Anjou, Chief Medical Officer of the USS Argonne. It is my professional opinion that Colonel Nye is medically unfit for command. In my power as chief medical officer I am removing him from his post. Computer: acknowledge."
Meanwhile on the bridge Nye sat in the command chair. Snee looked at Nye. "Colonel, some of the crew might get it in their heads to try and raid the bridge. Maybe you can shut of the replicators temporarily so nobody decides to make weapons?"
Nye thought for a second. "That is a good precaution. Computer: For the time being shut down all uses of the replicators." Nye ordered.
"Cannot comply." The computer coldly told Nye. "You are unauthorized to give that command."
"What!" Nye shouted. "I'm the fucking commanding officer."
"That is incorrect." The computer coldly stated.
"What do you mean? How am I not the commanding officer?" Nye asked.
"You were removed from command by Lieutenant Anjou on medical reasons." The computer informed him.
Nye sat in his chair in silence. He hadn't foreseen this eventuality. He then looked at Snee. "You fool."
Snee was quaking in his boots. "No...need...to...be...upset...Colonel." Snee could barely talk. "The computer will only allow marine officers to be in command. I am the ranking marine officer aboard." Snee told Nye. Snee had sweat pouring down his face.
"Alright then." Nye replied. "Put me back in charge."
"Yes, Colonel." Snee replied, still nervous. "Computer: This is the commanding officer Captain Snee. Restore Colonel Nye as the commanding officer."
"Unable to comply." the computer responded. "You are not the commanding officer. Major Hobbs is the commanding officer aboard."
Nye snorted in anger. "Computer: Is Major Hobbs in the brig?"
"Negative." The computer replied. "Major Hobbs is on deck five and headed towards the bridge."
Nye looked at Snee. "You had better hope that Hobbs kills me because if not I am going to kill you."
Meanwhile Smith-Carey was standing at his station. When the mutiny had started he had taken the ships weapons grid completely offline and he's also shut down the backups to prevent their misuse by Nye or Korganov. He had put his sidearm away so as not to antagonize this already hotheadded Tellerite any further.
LaMonica smiled as she turned to Korganov. "You might want to send your pansies away to deal with the uprising.. I'd better hurry before they decide they want to board us." she indicated the destroyers presently hovering around the Argonne like a pack of wolves clustered around a wounded deer.
The Akurian battlecruiser didn't wait for the destroyers to make their move. Firing numerous 100 cm HCSD rounds into Argonnes shields, they quickly disabled Argonne's shield systems. Lirvinx whom was at fire control, took care to make sure none of the rounds hit the hull.
Moments later, the door to the bridge blew open, courtesy of an energy blast from Arumi, she then fired a stun blast at Korganov, catching him square in the chest, sending him backwards into the bulkhead.
Sergeyev fired his own weapon at Snee, stunning him, while Arumi fired a second energy blast at Nye, destroying his weapon, but leaving him standing. Both of them then stunned any security guards still standing, and Arumi then systematically destroyed the weapons, leaving only Carey, Nye and and LaMonica standing.
Smith-Carey lifted his hand to shield his face from the flash and the noise. "Thats one way to make an entrance." he muttered.
Sergeyev looked at Nye with a deadly stare, "You, podonok, Your gonna pay for all the deaths you caused today."
Nye smiled at the Russian. He gave the nod to two security guards who had their weapons trained on Sergeyev. Before they could act, however, Sorvok stood up and applied the Vulcan nerve pinch to both men. As Nye's men crumpled to the deck he pulled out a large dagger.
"You think you could take me fly boy?" He mocked Sergeyev.
Sergeyev set his phaser rifle aside, then saying to Arumi, "Stay out of this fight, He is mine."
Arumi nodded," Alright, but if you lose, He is mine, Deal?"
Sergeyev, smiled, "Deal."
Snee recovered from the stun. He had only been grazed. Sergeyev had his back to him. Snee pulled out his agonizer and prepared to use it on the pilot. Before he could, Sparrer pulled the Klingon tool from Snee's hand.
"You can't use that on me!" Snee pleaded with Sparrer.
"So file a complaint with my commanding officer." Sparrer told him. Sparrer then applied the agonizer to Snee. Snee cried in pain as he got a taste of his own medicine.
LaMonica meanwhile was trying to deal with the various computer issues this was causing but honestly, she needed Major Hobbs to release the command lockouts so rather then fight with it any further, she turned to watch the fight in silence.
Sergeyev coldly approached Nye while Arumi kept an eye on anyone else whom though they could try anything funny.
"Nye, your going to suffer, you pig," Sergeyev spat at Nye, then he made the first move, landing several punches.
Nye took two punches to the face but managed to block the other two. Nye replied by swinging with his prosthetic arm, but Sergeyev anticipated the moves, dodged the fisrt two punched, then lowered himself and kicked nye's feet out from under him., Before Nye could react, Sergeyev put his left leg on Nye's prosthetic arm, pinning it.
Nye, unable to move his arm, produced a knife hidden in his sleeve, and rammed it into Sergeyev's leg. Sergeyev, didn't even flinch, causing Nye's grin to slowly disappear," Your not the only one with a prosthetic jarhead." Sergeyev then brought his foot down on Nye's ribcage with a satisfying crack, then backing off, he reached down and pulled the knife out of his leg. The knife had been jammed between his boot and his metal leg, so he easily pulled it free.
Arumi meanwhile noticed that Korganov was stirring.
Korgnov shock off this sting of the phaser. He had been wearing a protective vest that helped but didn't absorb the entire shot. The Tellarite pulled a knife from his boot.
Smith-Carey slowly drew his phaser from his holster on his uniform belt, his plan was to stun the unruly Tellerite before he could shoot Sergeyev.
Arumi didn't give Korgnov the opportunity, in an instant she was next to him, and using her powers to enhance her strength, she struck Korgnov's arm, snapping it in several places and sending the knife flying. The pointing her hand at the Tellarite, Arumi produced a ball of energy, "Try anything else stupid porky, and I'll turn you into a roasted ham, got it."
"You fools." Kargnov replied. "You've ruined everything."
Smith-Carey sighed as he slid his phaser away before going back to his panel, he then slaved security to his posting as he stood down the security details roaming through the ship. It was about all he could do considering he was almost totally locked out of his own work station.
He decided that watching the fight was more interesting them looking after things that were broken.
Sergeyev ignored the commotion in the back of the bridge, focusing only on his fight with Nye, whom produced another knife. Dodging several knife thrusts, Sergeyev was able to kick this knife away when Nye overreached, whom then resorted to using his prosthetic arm. Sergeyev dodged several punches, but one connected, and he felt one of his own ribs crack.
Ignoring the pain, he caught the next punch, pinning Nye's prosthetic arm between his own arm and his body, long enough to to jam the knife he had into the elbow joint on Nye's prosthetic with his free arm. With a satisfying spark from Nye's arm, Sergeyev has succeeded in cutting the wiring in Nye's prosthetic, rendering it useless.
Nye Growled and produced yet another Knife, but Sergeyev caught that attack to, locking Nye's arm into an armbar, and twisting hard, he broke Nye's good arm. Now defenseless, Nye dropped to the deck, where Sergeyev began to brutally kick him until blood started flying and Nye was no longer moving.
Smith-Carey turned his head as he watched Hobbs emerge from a turbolift. "Major." he greeted her.
Hobbs looked over to Sorvok. "I should turn the ship over to you."
"The computer will not recognize my command." Sorvok replied. "For the time being, you should take command of the ship."
"Oh." Hobbs replied, unsure of what to do next. "Yes, I guess I should." She then sat in the captain's chair.
There was a moment of silence as everyone on the bridge stared at each other. "Lieutenant Colonel Hobbs, if I may make a suggestion. Have the mutineers sent to the bridge except for those that are wounded. Have those sent to sickbay under guard until they are ready to be moved to the brig." Sorvok suggested.
Hobbs nodded in agreement. "Okay, do it."
"I would also let Star Fleet command know that the mutiny is over and we have control of the Argonne." Sorvok advised. Hobbs nodded in agreement.
Sparrer looked at Sorvok. "you know Captain, you could have used the Vulcan nerve pinch on Nye and stopped that fight."
"Yes I could have." Sorvok replied. "And yet I chose not to." Sorvok looked at the unconscious form of Nye, bleeding on the bridge deck. "i am pleased with the results of my inaction."
Smith-Carey raised an eyebrow. "Pleased sir?" he inquired of Sorvok. "I didn't think Vulcan's felt emotion..." he paused a moment. "However... I can understand why you chose not to get involved..."
LaMonica snickered softly. "Not bad sir." she responded before she tapped her panel, sending another message in the clear. "Mutiny has been put down. Argonne is once again under Starfleet control.." before she tapped 'SEND'
Sergeyev gave Nye one last kick, though not a hard one, "You know, I would enjoy killing this turd sack, but I think I'll get more enjoyment out of watching him be humiliated."
LaMonica sighed softly. "I can't beam the mutineers to the brig." she turned to face Hobbs. "Sir. I need you to release the command lockout, if you can..."
"Um, oh yes." Hobbs replied. "Computer: Release the controls to the bridge crew."
LaMonica smiled. "Thank you sir... Now I can get some work done..." she paused as she tapped the display before her. "Now... to remove the trash..." and with that Colonel Nye was beamed away from where he lay. "Much better." LaMonica responded.
Smith-Carey meanwhile had slaved the security station to the tactical station as Korganov was busy being arrested and removed. "Standing down the security teams and the other problems.. My my Korganov had fun.." before he turned to face the downed Tellerite before he kicked him. "Wake up buttercup. You wanted to play loose and fast with the rules..." as he hauled off and kicked him again.
"You little turd!" Korgnov yelled. "You weren't that tough when I was in charge!"
"How does it feel to be at the hands of ruthless people." as Smith-Carey reached down and grabbed Korganov by the throat. "Now I'm acting more responsibly... Tellerite pig.. Y'Know maybe I should ask my friend here to turn you into a cooked ham... It'll save me the bother.."
"Sir?" One of the security troopers who had just walked onto the bridge, protested.
"Yeah yeah... take this piece of shit to a cell... I don't care which... Just get him off of the bridge... Also get Mister Nye out of here as well. Either of them try anything... just shoot them, no warnings... just shoot then right here." and with that he tapped the Ensign right between the eyes, then he looked and he relized that Nye was no longer here. "Nevermind... just get this trash outta here."
"Yessir.. It'll be done.." and with that the Ensign turned. "Lets get these people put of here."
Arumi meanwhile commented, "Well, I'm going to contact starfleet then."
She went to the communications console, and contacted Jake Yamaguchi.
Jake Yamaguchi was sitting in his quarters as the message came in. He tapped the wall monitor before him. "Hello?" Jake inquired. "Whats up?"
"Disaster." Arumi answered. "Nye staged a mutiny."
"WHAT!" Jake's temper ignited as he looked left then right as he quickly forced himself to calm down. "How bad is it?" he inquired before he began tapping at the display before him. "I'm routing the closest starship to assist you." he checked the display. "Hmmm... I have the Alexander the Great and the Song of the East. I will send both to you."
"well, the casualty count is in the hundreds at least, thanks to hothead sending his troops on suicide charges into fortified enemy positions," Arumi explained. "We have him detained now, but a lot of people have been killed, and the mission is a failure, we failed to recover any of our technology, and the Romulans and Orions burned anything of value, so we cant even find out whom they where selling to."
Jake Yamaguchi listened in growing horror. "Aww shit.." he responded. "Okay..." he sighed. "so... Colonel Lucas Nye is responsible for the mission failure... Very well.. He will be dealt with upon his return to the Starbase.'"
Arumi sighed. "Well, we had people scour the base, there is nothing of value left here, but there is an Iconian gateway, so i think it is wise to simply destroy the base."
"Alright.." Jake responded. "An Iconian gateway... that would explain much.." he sighed. "very well... proceed at your discretion."
Arumi nodded while Lirvinx provided a suggestion, Hey it may be prudent for us to remove the Iconian gateway and study it, see if we can find a way to block the thing from opening up gates into our ships."
Arumi nodded," Not a bad idea, very well, when the gate is removed, we will destroy the base with an orbital bombardment."
Meanwhile on the ground. Tienn began to evacuate her guys. "Alright. lets start withdrawing." she sighed softly as she watched her marines began gathering for beamouts.
Tienn regarded the Iconian gateway. "Well... all this effort and guys lost... for this.."
A team of several Akurians arrived at the gateway, carrying transporter enhancers and setting them up. It took them only a few minutes to set up their equipment and the gate was then transported out and into a cargo bay in the Ryazar's shield.
Back on the Battlecruiser, Arumi got the reports that all her people where off, she then contacted the other ships saying," does everyone else have all their people off the planet, we are about to commence orbital bombardment."
Tienn did a quick headcount, she found she was short by fifteen marines. "Yeah... I got all my guys.." she responded. "Twelve dead and three wounded."
Arumi waited for all the reports to filter in, and once she got the final word that everyone was back, she asked," How hardened is that bunker."
Lirvinx got the full data from the scans and from the ground teams." Most is not that well protected, however the core of the bunker is extremely well protected, nothing short of main battery rounds or heavy quantum torpedoes could destroy it. We will have to hit it with AP rounds first, even HCSD rounds wont penetrate the bunkers armor."
Arumi knew how powerful the main guns where, and the damage they will do to the surrounding area. the fact that the bunker was that well protected worried her, " Alright, train the main battery on the target."
Lirvinx nodded and trained all 8 turrets on the target, eighteen guns where loaded with HC rounds and six loaded with AP. The six AP rounds where fired first, penetrating deep into the bunker and splitting it wide open, then the 18 HC rounds where next next to hit, consuming the entire complex in a massive multi-gigatonne explosion.
Arumi watched as the fireball grew to over 300 kilometers in width. The destructive shock wave grew much larger, flattening everything within 700 kilometers of the bunker.
Once the fireball started dying down, Lirvinx confirmed with sensors, "Well, the bunker is completely obliterated."
As is a massive section of the planet," Kakivi added.
Arumi sighed," Well with the armor protection they put on that bunker, it couldn't be helped, the planet didn't have too much life on it anyway, so i guess it inst a total loss."
Lirvinx shook his head," No, the mission was a complete disaster, and all we got to show for it, was an iconian gateway, that we aren't really sure what we may gain from it, if anything."
Arumi just sighed but said nothing further.
