Mission: Mission 37: The Troubles and Tribbles
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 1000Hrs - July 19th, 2391

Saki Yamaguchi reached her destination, she knew where she was as she rapped her small fist against the bulkhead, she waited a moment as someone outside removed the covering before she climbed out.

She gave Zara Tane a hug. "I'm...in trouble.." she whimpered. "everyone is leaving... they're off dealing with problems.."

Tane instantly hugged the kid, picked her up and carried her over to her couch bed. From there, Zara laid out on the mattress, with Saki in her arms. They just cuddled, for Zara knew she needed comfort.

"It sucks, I know," Zara agreed. "Part of being in the fleet means you sometimes leave your family to save others in need."

Saki shook her head. "I don' understand.." she admitted as she regarded Zara. "I feel... so alone... everyone else isn't doing anything with me."

"What would you like to do, Sweetie?" Zara asked as she caressed the girl's hair.

"I'...I dunno.." Saki paused. "Nobody is paying attention...."

"It's not on purpose, Hun," Zara tried to assure and kissed Saki on the fore head. "Your Aunt Elizabeth was attacked and a lot of people are trying to sort that out. Plus bad people are giving folks bad stuff that makes 'em sick. And that's got Gyce and your gran occupied."

Saki regarded Tane. "Why not space the bad people.... and be done with that."

"You've shadowed Benice enough to know, you have to be fair before you can punish, right?" Zara asked the kid.

"I know." Saki responded quietly. "I don't have to like it... the woman who hurt my aunt... should be made to suffer.."

"Many that suffer deserve mercy, and many given mercy deserve to suffer," Zara told the child. "We as sentient's should not be quick to judge, else we lose that which makes us good."

Saki listened as she regarded Zara as she considered what she was hearing. "I.... sometimes wonder..." she sighed. "All I've done... is sit around and watch the chaos aboard this... ship."

"My bosses stuck me with mostly bad people to work with. And it's my job to figure out which ones have the ability to be good and which ones should go," Zara spoke sadly. "It is my inability to judge well at times, that causes the chaos. And for that, I am sorry your family is having to work so much. It is not their wish to ignore you."

Saki nodded. "I'll manage.." she paused. "Can we... do something fun?"

"I know a game..." Zara grinned playfully. "Ever played Fort?"

Saki simply shook her head. "Never heard of it."

"Take the sheets off the couch bed," Zara winked. "I'll replicate more sheets... Stack of paper too. Paper towel roll I think, to make mini cannonballs."

Saki did exactly what she was told to do before she set out to build a fortress out of two chairs as she snickered, before replicating some pillows. "I wish I could make ramparts of this... no portcullis."

Meanwhile on the bridge. Lt Commander Luhanna Wintersnow was sitting in the command chair as she turned her head towards the skippers ready room, she could hear raised voices as Moni Nasao snickered softly.

"Ha! Your ramparts are no match for my port holes and drum tower," Zara boisterously gloated, then held her paper towel roll in her left hand above her head. "And with my trusty drool stick, I shall be victorious!"

Saki responded. "We shall see Trabek!" she called back. "I will roll over you like the vile beast that you are!"

Moni Nasao smiled. "I think the skipper is having fun."

"I'm going to check this out, just to be sure." Luhanna rose to her hooves as she went over to the ready room door, she poked her head. "Everything alright in here?" she inquired.

"I was just about to fight my foe with acid-coated drool balls," Zara snickered, and loaded her massive spit wad.

Luhanna blinked as Saki popped up and threw one of her soft plastic balls back towards Zara, it missed and hit Luhanna instead, Luhanna caught the ball before tossing it back to Saki. "I'll leave you two... to this... game." she said before taking her leave.

She sighed as she tapped her combadge. "Wintersnow to Admiral Yamaguchi."

"Go ahead." the Admiral's voice came back. "Whats up Luhanna."

"I found your missing granddaughter Admiral... she's...busy."

"I'll be right up. Yamaguchi out." as Luhanna went back to the command chair.

"Not enough power in your cannons to dent my fort," Zara teased, then launched a big wadded ball at Saki's 'tower' to try to take it down.

Saki was having a great old time as she returned the ordinance that Zara threw her way. Meanwhile the door to the bridge opened as Jake Yamaguchi walked onto the bridge. "Commander."

"She's in the ready room sir."

Indeed she was. Zara had stated to lob balls of all sizes at Saki's wall of sheets and pillows. All the while, trying to dodge the child's return fires.

Jake stood outside the door, listening to the mayhem and chaos inside before he opened the door and poked his head through, only to find himself almost eating one of the plastic balls Saki had thrown. "Having fun?" Jake inquired in an almost amused tone.

"Loads," Zara answered with a laugh, then tossed a foam ball at Saki's head.

Saki ducked before she threw two back, one missed and the second bounced off the wall before landing on Zara's head. "Yay!" the nine year old cheered.

Jake smiled as he decided to risk it. "Saki... you need a hand...?" he inquired with a smile

"Sure!" the child called back as Jake moved around, one could almost hear the two conspiring as Jake handed Saki a plastic ball before she threw it. It missed.

"Cheat," Zara teased as she blew a raspberry to Saki. Then hurled two balls at once at the little girl before ducking behind her sheet rampart.

One hit Jake in the head, yet he laughed about it as he handed the ball back to Saki who threw two balls right back at Zara. "Oh yeah!" Saki called before she stuck her tongue out at Zara a moment later.

"Bombs awaaaay!!" Zara called out as she lobbed a huge water balloon over at the two.

Jake saw it coming but he couldn't do anything about it as it hit and burst, showering Jake and Saki both with water. It took the nine year old completely by surprise as she screamed at the top of her lungs. "What!!"

"I sooo went there, yes," Zara cackled from behind her drum tower.

Jake responded. "Yup." as he handed Saki a ball as she popped up and tossed three balls at Zara.

"Ooomf," Zara huffed from taking one ball in the face. She laughed, despite the brief dazedness. "Good shot, Saki."

Saki launched another few shots at Zara, despite being soaked as Jake quietly set about creating a large water balloon of his own before handing it to Saki to instantly threw it in Zara's direction. "Heads up!" the nine year old called.

Zara started sputtering water out of her mouth after the balloon hit her. Thus her return fire was aimed not at the child, but Jake. "Ha!"

Jake chuckled softly, one could hear his evil laughter as his soft cackling could be heard on the bridge as the door beeped.

"Be warned, we have bombs," Zara called out to the door. "Armed and very dangerous." She winked to Saki at that declaration.

"We are green and very very mean!"

Torilla's head poked through the door right before Jake let fly with a water balloon at his wife, it missed but only because Torilla ducked back in time but she still got splattered with water.

Zara's water balloon, however, followed closely behind Jake's and found its mark with a multitude of laughter.

Torilla paused as she stood outside the ready room door, splattered with water as she sighed. "Well... that was different."

Zara just kept laughing until it hurt, then she waved a white flag to Saki. "You feel better now, Kid?"

Saki cheered before she yawned. "Mmm... yay!. That was great..." she paused. "good game... you fought well."

Jake peeled off his soaked uniform jacket. "Well that was fun..." he commented with a grin as he regarded his granddaughter who yawned.
"Why am I yawning.?"

"You wore yourself out... when was the last time you had this much fun?"

"At the beach party... a few weeks ago." Saki admitted. "When I buried mom under the sand."

"Any time you wanna play, and we're not under Red Alert, you come find me," Zara promised, and walked over and hugged the kid.

Saki hugged her back like she didn't want to let go. "Yay!"

Jake watched his granddaughter with a sad smile, he knew.

"You wanna help me remake the bed? You can sleep here, if you like, for the night. I just need to finish some paperwork, and then we can hangout here," Zara promised.

Saki regarded her grandfather as he nodded. "You can stay here... I'll keep your grandmother out of it." he responded.

Saki stood up as she set about making the bed in silence.

"Next time I'll find a partner to help my side out, Jake," Zara threatened as she pointed to the empty balloon bowl.

"Bring my wife. Torilla needs to get out more." Jake responded as he sighed.

"You'd love that," Zara snickered.

"There are children present Zara.. and don't forget that she can read your mind."

Saki chuckled softly as she finished making the bed before she sat down on it.

"Hee!" Zara's subconscious pulled out a monkey cry at the memory of Elizabeth's mind trick on her.

Saki found that to be hilarious as she started laughing and within moments she was in hysterics as she could not stop laughing for the life of her.

Jake chuckled softly.

"What?" Zara asked curiously to those in the room.

Saki slowly wound down as she struggled for breathe as Jake explained. "For a moment you sounded like a monkey.... I assume Elizabeth's handiwork."

"Oh..." Zara blushed with embarrassment. "Yeah, she did... Still crave bananas on occasion too."

Jake sighed softly. "That woman... seriously needs to get her head examined.."

Saki raised an eyebrow. "Why would someone want to look at Aunt Elizabeth's head...does she have fleas or... dandruff?"

"Lice," Zara supplied gently as she pulled the stack of padds off her desk and crawled into bed beside of Saki so she could work and comfort the kid.

Saki smiled as she closed her eyes and within moments, the nine year old was out cold as Jake watched in silence. "Zara... you are better with kids then you give yourself credit for..."

"She just wanted to play, so I played with her," Zara tried to push aside, quietly so not to wake the kid. "She's been through so much, I think people forget she's still just a kid."

Jake smiled. "So... what this I hear about you liking Fives?" he inquired gently. "Torilla told me..." he added.

Zara began to remove her wet duty vest and red shirt so she was in her tank top. Comfy, as it were. It was the only way to hide her blushing.

"Yes... I like him a lot, but he doesn't like me. Not since he knocked your wife up, anyway," Zara corrected quietly, then picked up a status report on the tribble situation with engineering to read and sign-off.

"Torilla told me about that... in two languages.." Jake responded. "Torilla was shocked about it... she was also devastated in feeling that she betrayed me." Jake simply shrugged. "I keep an open mind and I know things do happen.... like T'Shaamet happened to me."

"Yes... well... Even if I made the first move, he's not the slightest interested in me," Zara countered almost mournfully. "I missed my prime."

Jake raised an eyebrow. "Do you want him.?" he inquired bluntly. "Zara... you spend a lot of time up here medicated and or stoned... I've seen it and If I'm seeing it... then so is everyone else.. Have you given your crew anything they can believe in?"

"I'll work on getting out more," Zara promised. "It's just I haven't tried making friends and dating in such a long while that I'm a bit out of my element in that department."

Jake shifted his attention from Zara to his granddaughter. "Alright... because Saki has no filter.. and she knows you like Fives... so we just need to get him to see past his issues with you."

"What's up your sleeve?" Zara asked skeptically.

"Well... I can have a word with Fives... get him to see that there is more depth to you then meets the eye... but the question is.... is it something you want?"

"He's one I'd like to get to know, yes," Zara admitted with a hugely red face.

"Alright... I'll talk to him.." Jake responded. "you okay with her?" he added a moment later.

"For tonight? Yeah," Zara agreed. "She needed a hard play to get all that anger and fear released."

"Alright." Jake gently kissed his sleeping granddaughter's head. "Sleep well sweetie." before he turned back to Zara. "Call me when you want me to take her home." he paused. "Leave the ragecase that passes for my wife... out of it."

"Thanks for helping," Zara said. "I'll have the supply reqs by mid morning, if that's all right."

"That's fine." Jake responded. "I'll handle the ragecase... you handle the rest...if that's alright?"

"Take care, Jake," Zara waved off kindly.

Jake smiled as he went over to the door. "Thank you Zara." and with that he took his leave.
