Ensign Elizabeth Yamaguchi was sitting up as she was busy preparing for her surgery as Kameron stood beside her. "Well... this shouldn't take too long." Kameron was saying. "then its off to rehab for you."
"I want out of this bed... I'm spending all my time lying here and I want... No I need to do something..." Elizabeth admitted.
"Then we will. Tranquility has a good rehab center so we can use their facilities... or there is the gym."
"The gym sounds good." Elizabeth responded.
"Doctor Olmos believes that we should at least try to reconstruct the knee here, first. Where the most experienced surgeons are staffed," Nalla pointed out nervously as she entered the room.
Kameron regarded the smaller Eeiauoan and the small Deltan. "Okay. you two want me outta here?"
Windspirit nodded, as she prepared her surgical equipment.
"Alright." Kameron responded.
"Kam, we still on for dinner tonight?"
"Unless there are issues then yes. We're still on." Kameron smiled. "I'll go on home and hang out with the Kitties... Give me a call when you finish okay?"
"Alright." as Kameron and Elizabeth shared a gentle kiss before he took his leave.
"Do we want to try for osteo regeneration or are we going to try to find all the shattered particulate of bones and try for reconstruction?" Nalla asked her counterpart.
"Finding bone fragments and removing them first should be our priority, before they can cause any more problems," Windspirit replied as she looked for them with her tricorder. "Your new transporter probe should help out here."
"Though the portable surgical transporter uses the biobed sensors while docked, it would still be prudent to utilize the targeting pen for pin-point accuracy," Nalla told her colleague. "Do you wish me to perform this task, or would you like to use this opportunity to practice?"
Windspirit grabbed one of the modified headsets used by the targeting pen, saying, "No I'll do it."
"Very well," Nalla nodded in agreement, then looked to Elizabeth. "I will sedate you now, if you are ready."
Elizabeth regarded Nalla before she turned her attention to her knee. "Whenever you're ready El Tee." she said quietly.
Nalla eyed the pulmonary scanner's readout on the surgical bed's monitor to check the girl's BP. Then she flipped on the alpha wave inducer and proceeded to watch the neural monitor.
To a nurse, Nalla motioned for the arterial sub-dermal presser, then placed it on Elizabeth's thigh. Then she pulled out her personal portable surgical transporter.
"We cannot cut the blood flow for more than one hour and twenty-three minutes without risking nerve damage or necrosis," Nalla told Windspirit once their patient was under. "If it looks as though the procedure is taking too long, I will assist in removing the fragments."
Meanwhile, Siaxx watched for the next hour or so as the two doctors working on the very first patient to undergo this new procedure. Soon the operation was completed as the two doctors finished. "Well??" Siaxx inquired with the holo-recorder in hand.
"Most of the bone fragments were found and put back together. But she will have brittle bones in the knee area for the next two to three months," Nalla pointed out. "Physical therapy will be required."
Siaxx nodded her head as she turned off the recorder. "Shall we wake her?"
"As CMO, that is your call, Commander." Nalla looked back down at her PADD to check her notes.
