Personality & Traits
General Overview | Nalla is quiet most of the time. There isn't much she says, as she likes to observe mostly. But there are times that Nalla does talk. Usually it is only if there is something highly important to bring up though. Or if she is curious about something she doesn't get. If she is feeling left out of a conversation, Nalla sometimes tries to get into it. But that usually ends in her asking or saying something inappropriate (not meaning to). Mostly, it's best not to ask her things, as you'll end up hearing things you don't want to know. She has a good control over her emotions too. It's rare to make her angry. Though one defining quality about her is the almost stoic moments. It's not often, but some counselors suspect that the stoic tendencies might be due to recollecting the trauma that caused her to lose her sight. |

Ambitions | Nalla wants to outshine both her mother and foster mother, which is why she is something of a medical prodigy. | |
Hobbies & Interests | Pool, if she has a billiard table in her room. And swimming is her most favorite workout activity. She also spends a lot of her free time with her SAR /Therapy K-9, Rosco (a Saint Bernard). |
Personal History | Born from an exile Deltan politician for a father, and a Betazed noble socialite, Nalla's full name is Nalla, First Daughter of House Furban, Heir of the Tenth House. One would assume that she would of gone into political sciences or humanitarian sciences as part of the grooming process to one day rule an entire, wealthy noble house of Betazed. Nalla however, has always been an interesting case. Ignored by her busy parents outside of social parties and events, and raised by Au pairs, not interacted around any kids her age since her first public tantrum, social situations forever frustrated the girl and labeled her among the upper echelon of Betazoid society as, That Disturbed Girl of House Furban. Not much is known about her early life, by outsiders. The only thing most of the upper crust remember of her, were the random fits she would have in public. At first most circles assumed her blood-piercing cries were that of an attention-seeking brat. But as she grew older, Nalla's behavior began to point towards something not of the little girl's control. Some of the higher ranked houses of Betazed believed the number of nannies Nalla went through, pointed to a behavior disorder that caused most of the houses to refuse Nalla from any playgroups with their children. With the many bruises the kid got, some self-inflicted from kicking floors and hitting people to get free during some of her more violent fits, most houses eventually believed Nalla suffered a mild mental retardation. And this general consensus held true from age four and onwards, with the poor girl. At age 10, an EPS conduit exploded in her face. The general public were meant to believe it was the result of a terrorist who resented Matron Furban's charitable work. The real story was far more evil and is something Nalla talks about from a detached, factual point-of-view to some of her colleagues. The reality of the situation, was that Matron Furban lacked any understanding of what Nalla was going through, and took the frustrations of not being able to fix her estranged daughter, out on Nalla. She did not have her children to love either, but to fulfill an obligation to the Furban House. So while the public took to this false story of how the oldest daughter of Matron Furban was severely injured and left blind, Matron Furban took full advantage of the situation to cart Nalla off to a place she would not embarrass her house. Her parents did not want to deal with a socially inept child anymore, so they sent her to the Xilor Institute For Blind Children, a hospital on Earth. Not a single note or visit came from her parents after that, but the hospital's staff suspected, from all of the many old injuries, and the nightmares and tremors, that Nalla was abused in the most heinous ways. For 2 years, Nalla had a counseling staff helping her get to a point that the girl felt special, more so by Doctor Olmos' constant tutoring in brail and reading in general. You might say the entire pediatric division of Starfleet Medical heard about the abuse she endured. Nalla, as a result, got many presents from strangers - books, mostly. Olmos' Vulcan Ophthalmologist intern, Ensign D'Vok, also gave Nalla intense Vulcan emotion suppression techniques, along with some neuropressure training as a short-term means of helping her cope with her psychological trauma at bedtime. Lil'yanna learned almost instantly that Nalla had a very high IQ about four days after Nalla had entered the center. So giving the girl medical books gradually made Nalla feel as if she could do anything. Once Nalla was released from the hospital, Lil'yanna took her to live with her in Charlottesville, Virginia. Her foster mom, as per Matron Furban's permission. This became a good arrangement that Nalla adjusted quickly on. Lil'yanna got Nalla's IQ tested and the girl got to skip several grades as she was admitted into a good private school - Barring Academy of Mathematics and Science. Nalla also got to live in a home that had a massive pool, that she adored a lot. The half-Deltan became much like a fish, Lil'yanna found out. Her mood changed much brighter in the water, and even took her foster daughter scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef and in the Florida Keys during school breaks. Swimming with the dolphins seemed very therapeutic for Nalla too. So much so, Lil'yanna let Nalla take competitive swimming lessons after school. Her social problems never really improved though, despite the water therapy. The poor half-Deltan's hypersensitivity seemed to become more bothersome with age, causing Nalla to act out in the most improper moments. So as any caring mother would, Lil'yanna took Nalla to see many specialists. From neurologists, to behaviorists, to find a resolution... And found none, in the end, that had a clear answer for Nalla's social oddities. It wasn't until Nalla accidentally numbed a boy at her birthday pool part, at age 13, that caused her to stop trying to fix herself. As the boy nearly died in front of her and other kids her age, Nalla started avoiding touching everyone. Only Lil'yanna truly made her feel safe in her own skin. But that still stopped her from feeling... She started hardcore Vulcan exercises to the point she emulated them in most matters, to spare her having to express the pain she constantly felt. Nalla finished high school at age 14, and could not be more relieved. Not long after that, she got excepted to the University of North Carolina's Pre Med Department, on an Athletic Scholarship for their swim team. Even in college, her peers gave her a rough time socially fitting in and after only four months, she got permission to move back to Lil'yanna's house and transport to school, because of the random fits that still plagued her. After four years of hard study? Nalla became the top ranked of all her science peers. Allana was denied from going to Nalla's graduation too. And she applied to many graduate schools, so she could become a doctor like Lil'yanna. At that point, Nalla tried to get into her main pick, Starfleet Medical's Graduate School program, but the screening psychologist at the enrollment center told her that Nalla had to be a bit more social in order to make it in Starfleet's very social atmosphere. So Nalla chose her second option of going to UNC again for both her masters and doctorates. The next ten years, Nalla took many focuses in neuroscience, cardiology, forensic medicine, pediatric care, hospital administration, bioscience, neurology, surgical procedures, and neurosurgery. It became a massive load that she came close to burning out on several times, but Lil'yanna often remade Nalla's research material, finding as many visual aids as she could, to help Nalla understand the material. Nalla started her internships in September 5th 2372, at St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. Her ability to interact among her peers started to improve (at least in a working-sense), and her social life stayed non-existent, but her ability to see problems on her EM spectrum that normal eyes could not, began to rise her above the other interns in her class. Many of her papers on Bioscience: Understanding Illnesses Brought from Genetics, got the eyes of Starfleet Medical to the point that after Nalla graduated third in her class, Starfleet Medical invited her to their Advanced Medical Academy program... Mostly because at that time, Starfleet lost so many doctors from fighting the Dominion, that a doctor of Nalla's caliber could not be rejected, even with Nalla's very prominent anti-social behavior. After completing the Academy with an engineering degree and an emergency save of a dying admiral, against orders from her Chief Surgeon, Nalla got the eyes of many in the medical circle. But because her personality had become infamous, she did not get a CMO slot first. Her first role was as an ACMO on Starbase 12, in June 15, 2381. There, she spent most her time researching, since her CMO had an ego and gave Nalla the green triage cases. This led to the birth of a new medical field: Transporter Surgical Science. Only six months in, and Nalla got promoted to Lieutenant and given many research grants after some of her projects were released on the Federation's most prestigious medical journals. It actually might of soared her even more into the medical spotlight, given another year or so... If she had not accidentally numbed a reporter into a stupified, drooling state. Because it happened during a diplomatic event, Nalla got shifted to the Intelligence branch. What she did for Intelligence, is unknown to the outside world. But she saved a lot of lives and was decorated several times for it. She resurfaced in 2387, presumably because she wanted to transfer out of intelligence. She was given a prestigious posting as a CMO on Roanoke, and it is assumed that it is because of an incredibly exemplary, but highly classified and redacted service record during her Intelligence stint. |

Service Record | 2378 - Enters ST Academy, starts her thesis on treating burns using Nanite technology. Nalla starts her BA in Engineering, focusing only on Transport Technology, and begins independent studies in Advanced Medical Research and Development and Virology. * Qualifies for Starfleet Medical Academy's Swim Team in the 400 meter Medley Relay, 100 meter Freestyle, 1,000 Meter Freestyle, and 1,000 meter Medley. 2379 - Starts her second year. Fitted with Ocular Implants after her VISOR is nearly destroyed in a freak lab experiment from a neighboring chemical lab. 2380 - Starts third year. Put in charge of teaching premed cadets Basic Tissue Biopsy. Assigned to SF Medical's Surgical Team until the end of her Academy career. 2381 - Presents her thesis in front of the Starfleet Medical Board. It lasts over three hours. Mostly due to Nalla bringing up a brand new method of programming nanites to perform faster and more efficiently. Graduates first in her medical class as a Lieutenant Junior Grade. * Graduates first in her class as a Lieutenant Junior Grade. Assigned to Starbase 12 as ACMO. * Promoted to Lieutenant six months later after performing a radical and brand new form of surgery using transport technology (Nalla had researched it in secret) to remove abnormal amounts of tiny, hard-to-get-to shrapnel. Due to the nature of the technology though, the Medical Board hasn't officially sanctioned Transport Surgical Removal Procedures yet, as making the tech is a grueling, time-consuming tool replication process, not to mention controversial and highly risky (1 in 10 chance of success). * Intel recruits Nalla and trains her a full six months in analytic and evasion classes. 2387 - Assigned to the USS Roanoke as CMO. 2391 - Demoted to ACMO due to lack of social skills. |
