Mission:
Mission 33: Losing the Peace
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 1030Hrs - May 13th, 2391
Rear Admiral Jake Yamaguchi was sitting in his wife's quarters that he was temporarily living in as he could still smell Torilla's perfume that she sometimes wore on duty, it wasn't heavy but it was a soft fragrance of apricots and oranges. Jake smiled as he regarded the twins who were busy getting to know the cats that were scattered around underfoot.
Torilla's quarters were always lively and today was no exception, before he turned his attention back to the panel before him, a sigh escaping his lips before tapping the display. "Yamaguchi to Operations, I need a comline to the USS Regis, mark it personal for her commander and secure it, on our end." Jake requested.
Jiao Anderson's voice came back. "Willdo Admiral, securing message now.."
Yamaguchi nodded as moments later, an image of an old friend of his appeared on the screen before him. "Jake, when I heard this message was coming from the Roanoke, I was expecting Captain Tane," he explained. "To what, I inquire... Do I owe the pleasure?" Carl Patterson had once served with Jake aboard the USS Courageous during the war as his Marine CO, he had earned his callsign of 'Thunderhead' from the other ground-pounders because of the way he approached combat, he was pragmatic to the extreme but he would never ask any of his guys to do something he wasn't prepared to do himself. Carl made himself comfortable as he regarded his former CO.
Jake didn't return the smile as he wanted to get right down to business, that was not a reflection of how he felt about Admiral Patterson or their time together on the Courageous, Carl knew instantly something was wrong and Jake confirmed it. "Carl. I need you to detach a ship that's available from another assignment and route it to Roanoke's battlegroup. I have a bad feeling about the USS Fairchild, I might be going paranoid but apparently, some section head at Starfleet Intell is calling the shots on this one." he paused. "She's apparently attached to the Roanoke's group but isn't a member, let's just say that I have concerns about her Captain and crew..."
"Lovely, alright... Let me check... see who's available.." Patterson picked up a PADD. "hmmm well... I have three ships available for you."
Yamaguchi nodded as he picked up a PADD. "What do you got?"
"I have the USS Sagittarius, commanded by Captain Leah Anderson. USS Trafalgar, commanded by Captain Karl Reyes and the USS Alexander the Great, commanded by Captain T'Rae..." Patterson explained. "What one would you like?"
"I'd like to speak to all of them and I'll get back to you."
"Sure Jake... Don't take too long now, I have about an hour before I'm needed on the bridge... we'll be arriving at our destination at that time.. so until next time, Patterson out." and with that, the message ended.
Jake tapped the display before him as within moments he found himself talking to Captain Leah Anderson. "Captain Anderson, I'm looking for a Captain for a rather different assignment."
Leah regarded Jake Yamaguchi with a smile. "Go on sir."
"I need someone.... to keep an eye on a Federation ship, assigned to the USS Roanoke.."
Leah raised an eyebrow as she knew something shady was going on here. "Jake... I can't be of much help to you. You need someone who's skilled in being patient and able to handle three things at once, I'm not the gal you want for this assignment, trust me." Leah Anderson sighed. "I wish I could help but... I'll cause more issues if Starfleet Intelligence is causing you grief.." she paused. "I'm sorry.."
"It's alright Leah. I asked and you answered. I'll survive.." as he joked with her, he smiled to reassure her that it was indeed alright.
"Stay in touch Jake." Anderson sighed. "Sagittarius out." and with that, the comline went black, the words 'transmission ceased' scrolled across the screen before him, he decided to skip Karl Reyes because the man was known for his almost fanatical hatred of Starfleet Intelligence, Jake decided not to bother asking as he knew how it would go and it would only piss off both men as Reyes would refuse Jake point-blank, in no uncertain terms while using a few profane words tossed in for good measure.
No, Jake decided he would go and speak with his cousin's wife, Captain T'Rae so he contacted her.
"T'Rae, How are things?" when he found himself admiring the Vulcan womans rather delicate-looking exotic features.
"Admiral, I am well, your nieces and nephews are a handful but then I have come to expect as much from my children,"
she explained. "But you did not contact me to chat about family, how may I assist you this fine evening?"
Jake almost chuckled as it was morning on the Roanoke. "I need a Captain who can assist me with a rather thorny problem."
"I see... Please, do enlighten me." the Vulcan woman inquired before Jake began to outline his issues and concerns regarding the USS Fairchild, he got finished a minute or so later as the Vulcan nodded her head. "Yes, We are unfortunately starting an assignment at the present time." T'Rae sighed. "I will need you to cut me new orders to join the Roanoke's battlegroup and we can assist you with your concerns, be assured that your issue is now my issue.... and should this Chimera Class Heavy Destroyer step out of line, we will.... remind them that confronting a Battlecruiser is not a wise plan."
"Thank you T'Rae. Give my regards to your husband..."
"I will do so... However knowing him, he will endeavour to.." and with that, the Vulcan smiled.
"Alright... Let me get in touch with my Exec, one Rear Admiral Carl Patterson and he will cut you new orders after your next mission... He might want you to pick up some crew replacements too for the group."
"Of course.. " the Vulcan nodded. "If there is nothing further?"
"No, T'Rae. Good chatting with you."
"And you." T'Rae then terminated the transmission from her end as Jake wasted no time in calling Carl Patterson back.
Moments later Patterson's concerned face appeared on the screen. "Okay. Stick the Alexander the Great down for the assignment but she's started a mission at the present time, I want her in about forty days time... I want to let this issue with the Fairchild develop a little first."
"Sounds good Jake... Consider it done."
"Thanks, Carl.... next time we chat, it'll be about old times, I promise."
"Sure Jake" Patterson chuckled softly. "Give my regards to your wife..."
"Same to you," Jake responded as he knew Marie Patterson quite well when she was serving as his Chief Conn Officer and Second Officer during the war while Carl himself was Jake's Marine commanding officer. "I gotta run, I have to watch the babies... so yeah. I'm Chef tonight."
"Heh heh. You sound like you got your evening all planned, so... I won't keep you too old buddy... Patterson out." and with that, he terminated the transmission, leaving Jake in a quiet office, looking at a black screen as he rose to his feet and went out the door, his next stop was the Green Dragon as he felt like going for an early lunch.
