Mission: Mission 63: Second Nature
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 1000Hrs - February 13th, 2392

Dirty Jack was at his desk looking over personnel files. The third squadron in his wing was under strength and no way to bring it up without compromising the other squadrons. It was then that his door chimed.

"Enter." He yelled.

Ryi and Hana entered his office. It was Ryi who addressed Jack. "Sir, there is a good pilot here that is just sitting in her quarters doing nothing. I asked her and she agreed to join our squadron."

"Good, we need more pilots." He replied. "Does she know how to fly a fighter and is she in Star Fleet?"

"She knows how to pilot a fighter." Ryi told him. "She isn't in Star Fleet."

"So she is a civilian, that shouldn't be an issue bringing her in." Jack informed them.

Ryi and Hana looked at each other. "Um, well, she is in the military." Ryi nervously told Jack.

Jack looked bewildered. "Okay, so if she is in the military what the hell is the issue?"

Hana spoke up. "She is a Romulan officer."

"What?" he asked. "You mean the defector?"

"She is a good pilot!" Hana protested.

"She would make a good addition to our forces." Ryi pleaded with Jack.

"Sure, until she remembers that she is a Romulan." Jack shot back. "And I'm sure the Intelligence boys will give their stamp of approval. They like defectors and foreign officers running around lose on flight decks."

"Your not being fair!" Hana replied.

"No." Jack stated.

"Do you mean no not until you get permission from Intelligence or no she needs to have an interview with you first?" Ryi asked.

"I mean no it isn't going to happen." Jack told them. "Now get out."

The two females left the office. Out in the hallway, Hana was dejected. "That was a waste. I liked that girl too."

"This isn't over." Ryi told her.

"What are you going to do?" Hana asked.

"Just follow my lead." Ryi told her.

A while latter the two were in F'ianna's quarters. "Are you totally insane?" F'ianna asked Ryi.

"Come on? What do you have to lose?" She asked the Romulan.

"I could get sent back to what is left of the Empire." She answered.

"Your a pilot." Hana chimed in. "And if your anything like a Federation pilot, your probably climbing the walls from boredom."

"I have never climbed any walls!" F'ianna replied to Hana.

"It was a metaphor!" Hana told her. "Don't tell me you like it stuck in your quarters? Don't you want to be out flying again?"

F'ianna sighed. "I do. Alright, let us go."

The three then slipped out of F'ianna's room. F'ianna was in a Fighter Corp flight suit without any markings. The trio made it to the Roanoke pilot's area.

They were by and large ignored except F'ianna's lack of rank or any other markings caught some ones attention.

Ironhide came over. "Ladies...'sup?" as he noticed the Romulan female. "Who are you?"

Eight Ball spoke up first. "This is..." Hana tried to think of a name, "...Mariko." Hana stated. "She is our newest pilot."

Ironhide wasn't buying it for a moment as 'Mariko' looked like a Romulan to him. "I see.." he commented. "Well... We have had a lot of pilots come and go..." as his smile slowly widened. "Well welcome aboard.." he added

F'ianna stood to attention and gave Ironhide a Romulan salute. Both Eight Ball and Ryi gave each other a worried look. Hana then tried to salvage things. "Oh Mariko you big kidder! Your going to be the comedian in the squadron for sure."

Ironhide smiled. "Well we do have several Romulans in the fighter group aboard Roanoke.... But a word to the wise if I may?" he commented with a smile. "Try not to stand out... too much.." he commented.

"Um, yes Flight Master." Eight Ball replied. "We will get on it."

"Alright.. I'll leave you to it." Ironhide smiled as he turned and walked off. "Some should be more subtle."

After Ironhide left Ryi looked at Eight Ball. "Mariko? I'm not even human and even I know that name doesn't fit!"

"Hey, this was your stupid idea." Hana told her. F'ianna said nothing but let out a slight whimper.

Just then a Bajoran female came over. "Hey ladies.. how goes it..." Hadar "Jem" J'herim commented as she regarded the Romulan. "Fresh meat for the grinder eh?" she was the smallest woman of the foursome standing here but she grinned as she looked up at the other three, her eyes settling on the Romulan female before her. "Who's this?"

"She is new and a little shy." Eight Ball told her. "She needs a little space for now."

J'Herim regarded Eight Ball with a look. "Indeed." she turned to the newcomer. "What squad are you assigned to sweetie?"

"Uh...I'm assigned to Taffy's squadron." F'ianna stated quiet unconvincingly. "I do not remember the formal title."

"See, she is fine." Ryi told J'Herim. "We have to go."

Hadar sighed softly while she frowned. "Ladies. Come over here a second." as the Bajoran went over to the three women before her. "Is this... a good idea?" she inquired softly. The tone indicated that the game was up.

Ryi sighed. "No but we are short on trained pilots. Even with her we are still down a whole flight."

"I know... But there is the right way and the legal way.." Hadar paused, making a decision rather then waiting from orders from above. "So... here is what I will do.. If.. you ladies would mind running your friend through one of the flight training programs.. I don't care which one... and bring her scores to me... I will recommend her-" she indicated the Romulan among them while she spoke. "-For flight school and warrant school so she can fly among us." she paused. "The entire thing is about four months long.."

"Um yeah." Ryi balked. "Thanks for that. I'm sure she is a stellar pilot. Her security clearance may be an issue."

"For the programs?" Hadar inquired.

"Well, technically she is supposed to be confined to quarters," Ryi told J'Herim.

Hadar raised an eyebrow. "I know nothing, this chat never happened and I was never here," she responded bluntly. "If you run her through the training programs and her scores measure up. I'll recommend her or I'll get Ironhide to recommend her for flight school." Hadar explained. "Offers good to the end of the day."

Ryi shook her head. "Alright, we will see how she does. Thank you."

"Right I'll leave you to it..." Hadar turned and walked away, leaving the three to it. It was seldom she ever saw pilots sticking it out for others they didn't know so she wanted to see if the young Romulan was worth it.
