Mission: Mission 57: The Northern Lights
Location: Various Locations - USS Dreamcrusher
Timeline: January 5th, 2392

Elizabeth Yamaguchi was asleep in her bed when the first wave of pain lanced through her, much like a pressure wave washes over and through solid objects. She suddenly sat up. "Shhiitttt!." she hissed in pain.

Kameron saw up next to his heavily pregnant wife. "Elizabeth?"

Elizabeth pushed the covers away from her body as she noticed the rather ugly pool of liquid beneath her. "Oh god.." she went white. "Kammm.." she started hyperventilating.

"Come on.." Kameron jumped out of bed as he pulled on his uniform quickly, he was a pilot so he was able to dress while blindfolded and under sixty seconds, he went to his wife as she tried to gather her wits around her.

Kameron quickly draped a dressing robe over her shoulders, before he led her out of the doors to their quarters and down the hallway, towards sickbay.

A few minutes later the two of them entered sickbay. "Doctor?" Kameron called.

The EMH turned to face the two arrivals. "Please state the nature of the medical emergency?"

"Joey. The baby is coming." Elizabeth explained. "My water burst about fifteen minutes ago."

"Very well." Joey responded. "We have already got things set up. This way."

Kameron said nothing as he guided his wife into the delivery room.

Several hours later as Captain Torilla Yamaguchi walked onto her bridge as she was getting things ready for the war games that would happen tomorrow. "Morning Javier. Whats up?"

"Not a lot going on, everything is status quo ... but you got a note last night from the Dreamcrusher, asking you to contact their sickbay as soon as you came on watch... It was marked from Kameron Yamaguchi."

Torilla raised an eyebrow. "Okay... Set things up for me."

Jiao who had been on watch for the last fifteen minutes. "I have them on hold for you sir."

"Did you think ahead.?"

"I've got a feeling on whats going on... I've been there... twice afterall." the smaller Asian woman smiled at Torilla.

Torilla nodded. "Put em up on the screen for me please."

"Yessir." as the image of the starbase exterior was replaced by the face of Celeste Yamaguchi who began to slowly smile. "Celeste... Whats going on?"

"Elizabeth is in labor... her baby is on its way.."

"Sounds good. I'm on my way... Alert Tom Lasky, he should be here for this."

"Oh... I thought her husband was the father..."

"No.. Its complicated.. Call in Tom Lasky and Zara Tane.."

"Okay. I'll be waiting for you."

Torilla nodded as the screen went back to the starscape. "Javier, the ship is yours." Yamaguchi sighed softly. "I must go tend to this." Torilla went into the turbolift and ten minutes later she was standing next to her eldest daughter as she sighed in pain. "Mom."

"Its okay sweetie.. " Torilla gently took her daughters hand.

Kameron who was sitting next to his wife. "Hey mom."

"Its good to see you Kam."

Meanwhile outside the recovery room. Commander Celeste Yamaguchi regarded Commander Tom Lasky. "She is expecting you. Go on in."

"No... I can't..." Lasky paused.

Celeste raised an eyebrow. "Why... This is your child..."

"We go in... If she tells us to leave, we will," Zara spoke easily, then yawned. She came over in her PJs and a bathrobe with her hair all over the place.

Meanwhile Elizabeth sighed. "Gods.." she whimpered. "I've been at this for about four hours.."

Kameron meanwhile gently rubbed his wife's shoulders. "It'll be okay sweetie." he said softly.

Torilla watched in silence as she sat on her daughters other side. "I remember when I was in your place... It'll be okay.." she smiled as the door opened and in came Lasky and Zara behind her.

Torilla gently stood up, before going over to the arrivals. "Hey guys. Its good to see you."

"How is she?"

"She's definitely having her baby." Torilla explained.

Elizabeth regarded Lasky. "Come on over here.."

Zara paled when it finally dawned on her that Tom wanted her as his wife - Not just that, really. The mother of his children. Their first, about to be born. Zara felt sick all the sudden with that realization.

Torilla smiled. "Zara... come on over here... Lets give them a little space and you can tell me whats bothering you." as she gently guided the smaller Trill woman over to the side, away from the younger woman who was busy as Lasky sat down where Torilla was just seated.

"Tom.. When the baby comes... Take him... and go." she said softly. "Don't let me hold him.. because I'll never let him go." Elizabeth said quietly.

"Elizabeth... You should have the right to hold him." Lasky responded

"He's not mine... and I've gotten attached." Elizabeth shook her head.

Kameron regarded Lasky. "She's right Tom. It'll hurt but its for the best.."

"You two both sure about this?" Lasky sighed, his voice sounded like wet ash in his ears.

"Yes." Kameron answered quietly. "Elizabeth and I discussed it. To prevent problems with you and the long arm of the law... Its best this way..."

Elizabeth sighed as the nurse checked her over. "Alright sweetie." your fully dilated." as the Doctor smiled, while he ran a cloth over Elizabeth's forehead. "You're doing great Elizabeth. Whenever you're set."

Elizabeth panted as she fought o catch her breathe. She forced herself to inhail slowly. "Okay.." and with that she began pushing.

Torilla regarded her daughter. "I was once where she is now... having her." she smiled. "I don't need to be a telipath to know what you're thinking... your face gives it away."

"I just fear my lack of parenting, will be a bad thing," Zara confessed quietly.

Torilla turned her attention back to Zara. "A very real concern and the only way to face it... is well.. you start by asking this one question of yourself.... is this?" she indicated Elizabeth who was pushing out a basketball sized object through an opening the size of a lemon. "Do you believe in yourself or no?"

"I like to think I do," Zara confessed as she looked upon Elizabeth with sympathy.

"Its okay to make mistakes... Because.. as a new mom, you'll make them but it's what you learn... that's important.. Hey just because I have five kids of my own doesn't mean I didn't screw up... Because I did."

"I'll take care of him," Zara promised to Torilla.

Torilla raised an eyebrow as she let out a soft sigh. "Zara.. I have been most unfair to you." she responded. "When I found out I was pregnant... I didn't want the baby... because I knew Tom would accept him... but..." she sighed. "It was still wrong of me." she regarded Zara. "He is a monument to all my sins."

"We all sin in one way or another," Zara told her friend with a small, happy smile in Elizabeth's direction. "Trick is to learn from the mistakes, I suppose."

Meanwhile Elizabeth pushed as she almost screamed, when suddenly everyone could hear the sounds of a baby crying as Elizabeth sighed softly, the medics gently handled business as Elizabeth closed her eyes. Kameron gently reassured his wife that it was okay and that her work was finished.

"Your child is now a separate life form." one of the medics intoned softly as they wrapped him up in a soft blanket before they handed the small boy to Elizabeth. She looked down into his soft blue eyes as she had to struggle not to burst into tears as she gently handed him to his father.

Tom Lasky nodded his head slowly. "I'm sorry." as he gently took the small child out of the room but he was only following Elizabeth's wishes on the matter, nothing more and nothing less.

Kameron gently rubbed his wife's shoulders. "Sleep sweetie... We'll handle things..."

Elizabeth nodded as she slowly let her eyes slide closed. "Gods.... have a perverse... sense... of humor.."

Torilla watched in silence as she sighed softly. "So... you ready Zara?"

"No... but I'm willing to learn." Zara spoke with a nervous smile.

Torilla sighed softly. "You'll be fine so long... as you remember that you will make mistakes.. but so long as you learn from them... you'll be alright... its a long process raising a child...Relish this time... So long as the child knows you love him and cherish him, he'll learn to understand... but humility and wisdom often come with ego and anger, all in equal measure.."

"I wont let you down." Zara promised.

"No... You have already done a better job with him then I have... I ... abandoned him..." Torilla's eyes went dark. "I abandoned my child.. But... his father will raise him... as it was meant to be.." she sighed.

"You still can be part of his life, if you choose it," Zara spoke softly.

Torilla raised an eyebrow. "How?" she asked softly. "I don't have that right..."

"You're my friend... You don't have to ask," Zara pointed out very loyally.

Torilla regarded her in silence as she paused. "Zara... He can't have two mothers... " she responded. "Just... Promise me something... he's... your child and when he asks... tell him it was ... something.. " she paused. "I will be happy to babysit for you.. but.. I can't be involved in raising him."

"I respect that," Zara spoke with a small smile. "I'm just saying, you'll never have to ask. If you just want to see him playing with me and Tom, you can."

"Alright." Torilla responded quietly. "I left... him with Tom... I knew Tom wanted someone to carry on his family name... that's why I didn't abort... and that's why... I refused to raise him... because I would want to raise him among my other children..." she paused. "I would deny him... Tom that is... his son... and... I couldn't do that to him.."

"Stepping in to play with Kurt, or watch him for a few hours, is not denying him anything, Tory. If anything, you'd be more aunt," Zara tried to console. "You may not wish to be a mother to him, and that is completely fine. But I'll not deny you the right to at least look upon him - because he is still your blood, no matter how much I love him."

"I'll be okay with that..." Torilla agreed. "Its more then I deserve."

"You still are honoring you're people's traditions too," Zara reminded Torilla. "He's being raised by his father... And he nor I am fit to teach him about your side of his heritage. So I can see later on down the road, us needing you to help there."

Torilla actually had forgotten about 'that' little issue. "Alright.. I will be there.."

"Thank you," Zara said, touched for she knew how hard it was for Torilla.

Torilla turned her attention to her eldest who was now sleeping with a nurse cleaning up after the event. Kameron was still sitting next to his wife, regarding her as she slept. In some ways Torilla envied him but in others she knew exactly how this went as she had been in Elizabeth's place several times now.
