Trudging Through the Snow

Mission: Mission 42: A House Divided
Location: Planet Surface - Deneva
Timeline: 1000Hrs - September 26th, 2391

Ryazar's shield pulled into orbit around Deneva and a shuttle left the hangar bay, heading for the planets surface. Upon landing, Ryuukei, Weyai, Teval, and Hakaya where the first to step out, and all four of them noticed the whole area was covered in snow.

Weyai was the one to comment. "Ah, nice clean snow."

Lirvinx was the next to step out, followed by Arumi. Teval then noticed Tom Lasky some distance away.

Lasky was outside, he was sitting cross legged, both hands outstretched as he was holding a pole with two heavy weights, one on either end as Lei Shen watched him. "Careful" he said quietly.

Lasky adjusted his grip but to the unknowing, it was almost like he had become a statue.

Daniel Yamaguchi meanwhile was walking beside his wife as she regarded the shuttle that had just arrived on the landing pad. "I didn't know we had guests today."

"Yeah... neither did I." Yamaguchi responded as the two of them approached the four smaller beings. "Hello. Welcome to Deneva." Daniel greeted them.

None of the Kurokuri know whom he was, so Ryuukei was the first to answer. "Um yeah, We are just here to meet up with our friends, Tom Lasky and Zara Tane.

The two Yamaguchi's shared a look. "Okay fair enough.." T'Rae responded. "We didn't know who you were so we thought we'd ask.. Tom is over there and Zara... is in the training dojo with the kids." at that T'Rae grinned.

Ryuukei nodded and the group of six Kurokuri walked up to where Tom Lasky was.

Lei Shen turned. "Can I assist you gentlemen?" he inquired politely. "My student is meditating."

Teval looked over at Lei Shen," Yeah I'm Teval, I'm the one that told him to come here in the first place."

Shen smiled as he recalled now. "Ahh.. I didn't recognize you Teval. Welcome to Deneva." he responded. "What can I do for you guys?"

Teval shrugged," Just stopping by for a visit." Teval and ryuukei then looked both over, noticing Zara was in the fighting ring with what looked like an 8 year old child.

Lei Shen nodded. "Fair enough." he turned. "Zara Tane has skills...she is improving greatly. You should have seen her the first day... still she has issues in the close quarters area."

Lasky gently placed the bo and weight down on the deck before climbing to his feet. "Teval... Space is so small.."

Teval nodded, while Ryuukei asked," So what kind of martial arts do you guys do around here."

"Various styles." he responded evenly. "What we teach is not for combat, rather it is a lifestyle choice."

"Owe," Zara let out as she got smacked in the jaw with her opponents foot and barely had time to roll out and left from the continuing onslaught.

The eight year old nodded. "Good.." she complimented Zara as she went after her.

Meanwhile Lasky turned his attention to where Zara was. "She's improving."

"If you called Improving, evading, sure," Zara retorted, and forgot her surroundings. Another foot hit her in the side of the head, which caused Zara to hit the mat hard.

A small smile grew on Ryuukei's face, and he commented, "You know, its been a while since I have had a good sparring match."

Lei Shen raised an eyebrow. "What martial arts style do you prefer?" he inquired. "Zara, focus. Focus. Focus!"

Lasky stood in silence before he moved over to where Zara was fighting.

Ryuukei shrugged, "I'll just use what I know, which is an Akurian form, You wouldn't really be familiar with it. I promise not to use my powers though."

"Powers?" Shen responded. "What powers... I apologize. I don't know anything of your species.."

Lasky turned back to the three Kurokuri, before adding the response. "They have various skills in energy manipulations." he responded. "Gents, Hit that target over there." he indicated one that wasn't being used.

Ryuukei looked over at the target. "Um, I hope you don't mind that its probably not going to be usable afterwords."

Shen slowly smiled. "Now this... I simply must see." he responded. "Proceed at your discretion."

Ryuukei shrugged," Alright then." He raised his hand at the target, and a second later a ball of pure energy appeared in his hand, then flew at the target at high speed, completely obliterating it with a loud bang and bright flash of light. A few seconds later, the charred, smoking head landed on the ground near Shen.

Everyone within range stopped what they were doing as they generally
surprised as Daniel turned his head before he ducked his wife's swing with her staff. "Nice save old boy." T'Rae responded as her husband dove on her.

T'Rae laughed as the two went rolling about ten feet.

Meanwhile Shen regarded the singed head. "Impressive." a smile appearing on his face. "Very nice.!"

Zara went the look at the direction of the commotion, only to get kicked in the back of the head by accident. She was sent to the mat seeing stars.

The two medics sitting at the side, watching went to work instantly as the young student stopped instantly, stricken.

Lasky came over. "What happened.?"

"I kicked her in the head, Master Lasky."

"Fair enough." Lasky inquired gently as he tended to the student. "Do not be troubled... It was an accident." as he gently rubbed the young child's shoulders. "Take this as a learning experience my young friend."

"Yes Master." as the eight year old bowed to Lasky, who returned the bow before the child went over to Zara. Lasky followed in silence. "How is she?"

"Dazed.. but she'll be okay.." the medic responded.

"Fucking hell..." Zara spoke groggily as she came around. Her head hurt a lot. "How do those kids... manage to hit so god damn hard?"

Lasky peered down at her as the medic helped her to a seating position. "Because Marital arts teaches patience. These kids have that as that was what they were taught first... you don't.."

"Ha ha," Zara retorted dryly.

Lasky nodded. "Your skills are coming along but you do lose focus too easily. That's why she kicked you."

The student knelt next to Zara. "Hi... I'm sorry."

"It's fine, Sweetie... I looked away at the wrong time," Zara told the kid reassuringly. "Fault's with me, as Master Lasky so rightly pointed out."

Meanwhile Shen regarded Ryuukei and his two companions. "Impressive.. is that a species thing..?" he inquired.

Ryuukei shook his head, " No these abilities come from biosynthetic implants, its a technology that my people have."

"Implants?" Shen inquired. "Is that.. something that can be given to... say Cardassians or Romulans?" he inquired, suddenly concerned.

"Not without modification," Ryuukei answered." The implants have to be designed specifically to work with the biology of the species of the individual they are going in. The Akurians have these implants for humans, as there are humans where we come from, but there are no romulans or cardassians."

"That is good to know." Shen responded. "Can they get access to the tech?" he inquired. "I wonder.... and worry for my siblings in the fleet."

Ryuukei shook his head," Not that I know of."

"Alright.." Shen responded with a smile. "I'm not in starfleet but I'm concerned about my family who are."

Ryuukei nodded," I Understand." He then looked around at the people around," I still want to do a little sparring with someone if you don't mind, as i said, I wont use my powers."

"Of course." Shen responded as one of his instructors came over. "You wish to spar?" he inquired.

"Ryuukei. This is James Burdette. He's presently on leave from Starfleet... " Shen did the introductions.

Ryuukei nodded," Yep, and I'm Ryuukei, I am starfleet too, but probably not for much longer."

Burdette raised an eyebrow as he regarded the smaller being. "Oh... and why is that... if you don't mind my asking?" as he began to circle the smaller being, to wait him out.

Ryuukei remained casual, replying," Well, Just losing interest in starfleet I guess."

Ryuukei was the first to make the opening move, landing a few quick strikes. He was careful to avoid using his claws, but otherwise sparred much like a typical kurokuri, using his speed and agility to avoid attacks rather than blocking or taking hits. Within the first few moments, Ryuukei could tell, James was having difficulty fighting someone of Ryuukei's size. But with Ryuukei's restraint in not using his powers, his physical strength was still weaker then the human. However Ryuukei didn't have to wait too long before James made a mistake. Ryuukei got under James, and kicked his feet out from under him, causing him to fall to the ground.

Burdette landed on his back, before he hopped back up to his feet moments later, before he bows to Ryuukei. "You fight well."

Ryuukei nodded, then looked over at Lei Shen, "Hey do you have a nice secluded area around here, I want to take Teval and Hakaya for training of their own, but I rather not be to close to your buildings."

Shen nodded. "We do have the entire northern plateau." he explained. "You'll want to go north through the town and out the northwest end, it overlooks the plateau... and not many people go out there..." he paused. "Do keep in mind that the winter storms can appear without much warning and the further you go... the more trouble you can get into."

"Good enough for me," Ryuukei lokked over at Teval and Hakaya," You two, your coming with me, got it."

About 20 minutes later, Teval and Hakaya where out on the open space of the Plateau with Ryuukei, Weyai, Arumi and Lirvinx.

"What are we doing out here," hakaya asked."

Just a little training," Ryuukei replied," I think its time we get your powers back into shape."

Teval gave Ryuukei a look," Huh, well we have had some training from Aerin, when we where in that subspace sinkhole."

Ryuukei nodded," alright." He then concentrated his abilities, and a moment later he activated his power form level 1. a subtle glow appeared around him, and Teval could sense that ryuukei's power increased considerably. "So, can you do this."

Teval shook his head," I'm afraid not."

"Well then, you have a lot to learn."
