Mission: Mission 42: A House Divided
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 0830Hrs - September 1st, 2391

Nalla had called Jake and Teval not ten minutes ago to inform them that Zara was healthy enough to be released. The Trill was annoyed, though that was being diplomatic. Nalla figured it was because Tane did not like being in Sickbays, given how hard it took to track her down for physicals.

Now, however, she looked out her office to see if Commander Lasky had come to pick Tane up. He was, after all, the only one Zara requested to be her escort out of the hospital.

In the main room, Zara struggled only a little through the discomfort as she finished pulling up her ocean-green jogging pants.

"I didn't want the... crew to see me," Zara spoke with a blush to Lasky. She still had to pause here and there to find words. "...Th-th-thank you."

Lasky sat down at the foot of her bed. "What the hell did she do to you?" he asked softly.

Meanwhile, the doors opened as Jake Yamaguchi walked through the door. "Hey Nalla... is Zara up?" he inquired of the woman who was half his size and weight.

Teval and Hakaya both came in shortly after, but neither said anything.

Nalla motioned to the Trill in the bed close to her office window. Zara was putting on a Starfleet Corps of Engineering t-shirt and was in deep, quiet conversation with Lasky.

"She is more than up, Sirs. Captain Tane is starting to annoy my staff because she is experiencing cabin fever," Nalla explained in her typical monotone. "Of course, being stuck on ships as long as she has, I cannot blame her. But I am discharging her now, to save my staff the headaches she generates."

Jake chuckled softly. "You guys did good Nalla." he responded with a smile before he went over to where Zara was located as he knocked on the door to the recovery room.

"It's open," Zara called out as she took Lasky's hand in hers. She felt a little too exposed all the sudden, even though she was fully clothed.

The door opened and Jake Yamaguchi walked in. "Hello Zara.. How ya feeling?" he inquired.

"I'll live," Zara shrugged off as she glared in warning at a nurse who had started to come over with a cane.

"Ensign, give us a moment..." he said to the nurse, who sighed as she placed the cane by the bed then left in a huff. "You too Mister Lasky."
he said quietly.

Lasky looked at Jake who simply looked back at him before he backed down and departed, leaving Jake alone with Zara. "Well... I hereby promote you to the rank of Commodore with all the yadda yadda yadda." he explained before he handed her a small black box. "Your new rank insignia."

"I di-" Zara paused and thought a moment before she tried again as she went to pet Cleopatra, who was in her dog bed at the foot of the biobed. "..I didn't want th-th-this."

"I know.." Jake answered, a soft sigh escaping his own lips. "I know exactly how you feel Zara... I didn't want this either." he explained. "When I was first promoted to Commodore. I was going to refuse as all I was content to do was to raise my children and keep the center chair of whatever ship I was commanding..."

"I d-d-don't deserve it," Zara stuttered with watery eyes, at which point Cleo decided to roll on her back so Zara had to scratch her white belly.

"Yes you do." Jake responded quietly. "You turned this crew from the ship of the damned into something respectable... do you know how many transfer requests I get for people to come serve with you?" Jake inquired. "I'm even getting requests from ship Captains to come be a part of what you started... Since Fighter Force is handling the logistics, they are also handling the Admiral's and General's chauffeur duties... so.. I'm going to put IFO on the map for something real... and you... showed us how it was done.." Jake gently took her hand as he knew she would refuse him as he placed the black box into her hand. "If I could... I'd promote you to Five Star Admiral and call it a day... Because someday, you'll be doing my job." and with that he turned and took his leave in silence.

Zara remained dumbfounded, holding the promotion pip as Lasky and the others returned to her. "He's... crazy."

Lasky turned his head to regarded the two Kurokuri who were standing nearby. "I dunno... Is Jake insane?" he inquired of Teval

Teval looked over at Zara, then looked back at Tom, replying, "He is a Yamaguchi, is any member of that family sane."

Lasky regarded the door which Jake had departed out of just moments earlier. "Actually... Yes.. Jake himself, Rachael and when she's stable... Elizabeth." he paused. "I've made it my business to get to know Elizabeth and how she thinks." he breathed out before he turned his attention back to Teval. "I've gotten to know her... quite well"

Teval gave Lasky a look and sighed, "Nevermind, anyway, now that Zara is back on her feet, Tom, you have a mission to do."

"Indeed... I do want to have Elizabeth drop by the hanger and give Zara her gift but we'll be on our way within the hour." Lasky responded.

"...W-w-what are y-y-you up to?" Zara asked with a skeptic eyebrow raise.

"You'll find out soon enough..." Lasky responded as he tapped his combadge. "Lasky to Yamaguchi. Elizabeth darling?"

A soft growl came back. "Mmmm... What?" came the response. "Kameron this better not be you... or its the doghouse for you.."

"No Elizabeth... it's me."

"Oh god. Seriously?." a soft sigh could be heard. "What is it?"

"Could you bring your little surprise for Zara down to the hanger... so we can relieve you of him..."

"Oh... Out with it a little sooner next time... I was having a wonderful dream... and you gotta ruin it... I'm on my... uhh ... way.." and with that, the com system beeped.

Lasky smiled. "Alright... Let's get going then," he commented.
