Mission: Mission 40: Thirty Pieces of Silver
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 1100Hrs - August 3rd, 2391

Seykai walked over to where Teval and Hakaya where sleeping and gently nudged Hakaya. "Hey you two, you have been sleeping a while, time to get up."

Hakaya whom was already mostly awake sat up, and in the process, woke up Teval. "How long have we been out."

Seykai didn't even have to check the time," You two have been out almost 18 hours."

Hakaya stretched her back and arms, and yawned," Damn." It then all came back to her as to what happened over the last couple of days. "How many people did we lose."

Seykai shrugged," Not really sure, no one has really told me much. An unfortunately I have not been of much use over the past little while."

Teval also sat up, and that's when Seykai noticed his injuries. one hand was in bandages and a brace, the other, was just gone. It reminded him of the injury Keith thatcher inflicted on himself over three months ago. Seykai's own right paw, which was the one that had been cut off, was about halfway grown back by now, but he knew Teval was going to have a much harder time adjusting.

Teval attempted to pick himself up, but he was still unsteady, his legs where extremely stiff. It took a couple minutes to get his legs working to the point of where he could mostly walk normally.

The doorbell beeped as Commander Torilla Yamaguchi stood outside, she had given the crew time off and now she was checking on people, making sure they were alright and the like. Right now it was Teval's turn.

Hakaya was the one who went to the door. Passing by Karryn and Aerin whom where both sitting at the couch. Speed Demon meowed at the door, and Hakaya picked the kitten up, then opened the door. "Hey Torilla."

Torilla looked down at the smaller beings. "Ah. here you are..." she commented. "my my, you are a hard one to find..." she commented.

Teval walked over from out of the bedroom, "Hey so, this is all just a nightmare and I have woken up from it, right."

Torilla regarded Teval as she slowly shook her head. "Worse... because a nightmare ends... this one... doesn't end... and you should go to sickbay, get yourself looked at... now that we have new personnel to replace our downed medical officers as Siaxx and Captain Olmos relieved the lot of them for a few days..."

Teval sighed, and said, "Whats the point, I'm not dying at the moment, let them worry about the people whom are in a lot more trouble than I am in."

"Its been two days... and you honestly look like you need it." Torilla responded. "the hands in particular."

Teval held up both arms, "You mean hand right, I'm down to one. Besides, if its all the same to you, I'd prefer to minimize my sickbay time as much as possible. and the operation was only Yesterday."

Yamaguchi was too tired to fight and she was exhausted, yet she felt she had no choice. "Teval. You look like they missed a few things... go down to sickbay and get them to check you out."

Karryn was the one whom interjected, "Torilla, relax, I have medical training myself, even though its Akurian Medical training, Teval happens to be an Akurian. And I know the species better than any of those doctor's do. Besides, you do look pretty wrecked yourself."

"We all do." Torilla answered. "Alright... I'll leave it with you then." before she turned and slowly moved off.

Hakaya said to Torilla, "Well I could always take over for you if you like, I just slept for 18 hours so I am pretty well rested right now."

Yamaguchi sighed softly. "I wish I could sleep... I keep... having nightmares.." she admitted quietly.

Hakaya shrugged, "Well i think at the very least, you could try and take a nap, before you end up face planting on the deck. baring that we can always just go with you, so when you do face plant, we can call for assistance right away."

Torilla blinked slowly. "Okay... I'm going to go home... fuck it.." she muttered.

"Who do you still have to check," Hakaya inquired.

Torilla handed Hakaya a PADD which had almost a third of the crew on it. "These guys.."

Hakaya took the padd, and then with Teval, Karryn and Aerin, the four of them went to check the remaining crew members.

Torilla meanwhile staggered off down the hallway, yawning before she stopped herself from crashing into a bulkhead. "Mmmm.." she blinked her eyes closed before she tapped her combadge. "Yamaguchi to.. Duval... Any chances you could come to my location and take me home?"

"Certainly Commander.. I'm on my way."

"Thank... you." she whispered before she collapsed to the deck, asleep before she landed.

Arein asked Hakaya," So what has Torilla checked so far."

Hakaya looked at the Padd, saying," Well, she has checked everyone on Roanoke, however she hasn't checked anyone on the other ships yet."

"So Dreamcrusher's sickbay first then."

Hakaya nodded," Yep."

The group first walked to sickbay, with Karryn and Teval staying outside. Hakaya walked up to Celeste, asking politely, "Hey Celeste, I need a casualty report from you please."

Celeste Yamaguchi was holding a PADD in her hand as she peered down at the smaller being before her. "I had finished it about an hour ago... its in my office. Let me go collect it." as the taller woman went into her office.

She picked up the PADD on the table as a sigh escaped her lips. "We lost twelve overall due to various issues and maladies.." as she handed the PADD over to Hakaya.

Meanwhile, Sergeant Major Duval arrived at the location indicated by the Dreamcrusher's main computer for the location of Torilla Yamaguchi, he found her sprawled out on the floor, out cold. He gently rolled over onto her back before he gently picked her up. "Come on sweetie... time for me to take you home." he then tapped his combadge. "Duval to the Admiral. I found someone who is lost."

"Is she known to me..?" came Jake's response.

"Oh yes Admiral... Very much so."

"Alright... I appreciate you collecting her, would you mind dropping her off at my place on Dreamcrusher... and mind the cats.."

"Sounds good sir. I'll handle it." Duval answered.

Hakaya then went to Dreamcrusher's Operations chief to check how many people where beamed to Dreamcrusher. Next she then visited all the other ships in the battlegroup, then after an hour of collecting reports, the group went over to Roanoke.

"How many did we lose overall," Aerin asked.

Hakaya pulled up the final list, "63 dead, 212 wounded."

Aerin sighed as they approached Zara's office, while Hakaya hit the door chime.

Zara hit the lock release on her door as she continued a very heated discussion over subspace with the Starfleet Quartermaster CO.

"...am I supposed to do for the next eight months? I'll lose most my crew," Zara almost shouted to the rear admiral in front of her screen.

"I sympathize with you Captain Tane. But your ship is listed as a colony support. You're not an active, full-time combat unit. So the priority for pods and saucers for your class of ship go to full-time, active ships in need," the elderly man of dark skin spoke to her.

Zara looked up at her guests and then at the empty water glass. She dearly wanted booze.

"Admiral Jake Yamaguchi listed me as an active unit just reacently," Zara countered.

"You are IFO. By default, your ship mission is temporary assignments. Be it emergency support the main fleet cannot commit to, or admiralty transport," the quartermaster CO told Tane. "What your CO re-designates you is his right. But it does not change your mission statement officially. And that is where supplies prioritize. I am sorry, but you will have to wait eight months for your next saucer and pod."

Zara made to counter once more but found the link cut.

"That greedy bastard!" Zara shouted angrily and slouched back into her chair in defeat. She could not save all those lost and injured. And now she could not protect her crew from being split up.

Hakaya, Teval, and Aerin, all of them having heard the conversation quietly walked into the ready room. Teval was the first to say it, "Trouble with the Admiralty."

"We are a temp unit on paper so they're telling us to fuck off and get in line," Zara spoke with much frustration in her voice and pain in her eyes. "I can't give you folks what you rightly deserve because the admiralty would rather piss on my head than make sense."

All three Kurokuri knew exactly what Zara was trying to get, as they were able to hear through the door, it was Aerin that added, "Well, R&D I think has a spare hangar pod and saucer lying around configured to carry the new gryphon class fighters, but they have been looking for a stardrive section for a while. But starfleet has been unwilling to give up a regular nebula because they consider carriers a low priority. Maybe I can talk to them and get them to help out."

"Thank you," Zara spoke very appreciatively. "I wish I hadn't five-fingered half the admiralty's ships now... Probably the main reason they won't give me high priority in the staffing line, to replace the bozos I've started chapter work on."

She handed Teval the PADD and tried not to cry as she made eye contact with him. There were soo many he lost, and a good deal of them because Zara ordered the pod sawed off, not to mention the tetryon reactor that blew.

"How bad is it?" Zara asked with difficulty while she stared longingly at her water glass. She wanted nothing more than to be drunk in that moment, than deal with this level of guilt and frustration.

Hakaya pulled up the padd and gave the number, "63 dead and 212 wounded. Though the doctors are reasonably certain no one else will die."

"Suppose I should see Siaxx about the names, so I can do the DDLs," Zara sighed and rubbed her temples. "How are you guys holding up?"

Hakaya looked at Teval, saying, "Well, there is a reason I'm the one with the Padd."

Teval looked down as where his left hand was, now there was just a bandaged stump, and the right hand bandaged up as well. "Well, I've been better."

"I wish I could do more for the folks you lost," Zara spoke with sympathy to them.

Teval and Hekaya looked at each other while Aerin added, "Should probably include yourself in that statement. Don't tell me your not affected by all this."

"Oh... I'm deeply affected," Zara admitted as she stared longingly at her glass. "I want to be numb and dumb for the next week, if I could. But I can't afford that. Not when so many people need me. Though why, I could not tell you. I mean, I made a call to close off the pod from the rest of the ship. That, by all rights, should make me the most hated."

"There wasn't a choice in the matter," Teval added, "Those fighters and their warp cores would have annihilated the entire ship otherwise."

Aerin let off a sigh, "Utterly retarded if you ask me. If this was an Akurian ship, something like this never would have happened, we aren't retarded enough to use power sources so ridiculously unstable as what the federation uses. And I don't know what dumb bastard up in starfleet engineering was mentally deficient enough to come up with the EPS system, which explodes if you looks at it funny. If you ask me, its the utterly retarded and unstable designs of federation technology that is to blame here."

"It was my reactor that finished the pod off," Zara noted guiltily. "Fives talked me out of using it though. So I suppose it was a good thing it was not powered up, or it would have been a much bigger explosion."

Aerin shook his head, "Even if it wasn't your fighter, the charged warp cores in the pod would have done the job anyway. Its not specifically your fault, its federation engineering and design culture that is at fault here, and its willingness to accept extremely hazardous designs for that extra little bit of power."

"Question is... Will we learn from this tragic accident?" Zara asked remorsefully.

Teval gave off a sigh then replied, "Well if Dreamcrusher and her sisters are any indication, Federation engineers might actually be starting to get the hint. I hope that at least this accident will be the final word on the matter, that the federation needs safer tech."

"I hope you three aren't intending on sticking around here the entire time," Zara spoke with concern, as if the thought had suddenly hit her. "All of you deserve shore leave, and as much as you can get."

Teval looked up at Zara, saying, "To be honest, I'm not even sure we are staying. With the new fighter corps being formed, our jobs are being moved to that branch, and neither of us want to go to fighter corps. There is no other positions that I can do on this ship, so chances are, unless Torilla leaves for some reason, I pretty much have no choice but to leave."

"I will do all in my power to get you some sort of command role," Zara promised. "If that is what you want... Can probably get your sister on the same posting, assuming you're staying in the fleet, Hakaya."

Hakaya started to Cuddle with Teval before answering, "Well, I haven't thought about that much yet."

"I don't want to force you back into service, Hakaya, What you want, you'll get. Be it department transfer, command school sponsoring, or a general medical discharge. I'd offer to start a Section 8, except that one might easily follow you in a civilian job. And I wont do that to such a fine sentient."

Hakaya didn't immediately answer, unsure of what to say on the matter.

"In other words, I'll support whatever decision you want to make for your life," Zara simplified.

Hakaya nodded, then cuddled closer with Teval, whom then hugged Hakaya and pulled her closer.

"I need a hug..." Zara spoke more to herself with envy as she watched the exchange with the siblings.

Both siblings looked up at Zara with Teval saying, "Um, OK."

"Really?" Zara asked with shock, for she knew Hakaya did not like being touched much.

Both siblings nodded.

Zara practically rushed over to hug them. They felt really soft and warm to her.
