Six Sides of Siaxx

Posted on Mon Mar 2nd, 2020 @ 3:12am by Admiral Lil'yanna Olmos & Commodore Siaxx "Bluemoon" Dvald-Vaxx MD

Mission: Mission 40: Thirty Pieces of Silver
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 1200Hrs - August 3rd, 2391

Lt Commander Siaxx Dvald blinked her eyes open as she found herself receiving a PADD from one of the medical personnel from the USS Shogun, one of the newer ships that had come to relieve USS Roanoke of her burdens.

"Huh?" Siaxx asked.

"Captain Olmos wants to see you..." The officer responded. "She is on her way."

Siaxx sighed. "Okay... I'll... speak with her... go on... out already." the small Bolian sat back as she muttered. "Never good when the fleet medical commander wants to see you.... maybe she'll relieve me of my responsibilities and my work... maybe then I'll be able to sleep.." as she sighed a third time. "I don't think I'll ever have a decent nights sleep... ever again..."

Several minutes later, Captain Olmos stood in the doorway of Siaxx's office. She had an amused expression at the Bolian.

"My daughter speaks highly of you, Commander Dvald," Olmos opened.

Siaxx had her eyes closed as she seemed to be asleep. "Mmm... I don't know why she does... We lost far too many people on our tables." a sigh escaped the small Bolian woman's mouth as she looked ready to cry. "Then there is Toshnarr... I don't think I'll ever get over that... or Phoenix... she needs new lungs..."

"You never gave in, despite how personal the injured and lost were to you," Olmos added. "Not easy for doctors to play gods in a triage the likes your people were part of."

"We did the best we could... Elizabeth Yamaguchi was invaluable. She had the hardest job of them all and she did extremely well... though she would tell you she lost far too much... I'm giving her a couple of days off to come to terms with what happened.." she paused. "It was a right mess sir..." she sighed softly.

"When we get to the starbase, all the wounded will be transferred to their medical facility. That way the fleet's medical staff will get much needed leave," Olmos assured the Bolian. "Given any thought on your medical specialty yet?"

"I find a lot of satisfaction in medicine with children." Siaxx admitted. "and... I don't think I can handle working on a carrier... not after recent events.." she paused. "I've had too much to do recently... but I want to look into learning how to handle burns and lung damage.... because of Phoenix.."

"The goal is to do what makes you feel satisfied with life," Olmos explained very gently.

"I'll be honest... I don't feel very satisfied with anything at the present time.." Siaxx responded quietly. "My medical staff are exhausted beyond words, we lost far too many on the table and my objectivity is broken..."

"We could probably certify you as a pediatrician on Tranquility, but you've already got a senior rank and position here. I don't think you'd want to be downgraded," Olmos spoke with worry.

Siaxx paused. "Not really.." she admitted. "But I do have command school training... and I've been wanting a change for some time now."

"I have to say, I was impressed with your performance. So much so, I'd like to offer you the XO spot. At least for three or four months. Then, if you do well, you get my seat," Olmos spoke hopefully. "I take Commodore and Medical Fleet CO officially, after I train my successor here."

"I'd like that." Siaxx brightened. "It'll give me something new... a challenge I can enjoy."

"It'll be a challenge. Because while in space, you are mostly on the bridge. But once we land on a planet, we become a MASH. And that means you're the hospital admin," Olmos began. "You have to be able to know when certain space missions call for the medical admin role too. Because sometimes you have to be the CMO instead of the CO. So adaptability and recognizing what role you need to become most, in the moment, is a mandate."

"Well its not like you'll be throwing me into the fire right away." Siaxx explained. "I already do the hospital admin role here already, I'm only really short on command experience." the small Bolian added.

"Oh you will get it," Olmos laughed lightly. "Problem with medical units, same as carriers, is that we're extremely officer-heavy. So you're dealing with egos. It's your job as CO to bust them when lives are in danger. Luckily, we don't get too many arrogant medical officers here, but it does happen."

"Breaking Egos is not an issue I need to concern myself with." Siaxx responded. "They can either do as I tell them to do... or I'll simply find someone else.." she shrugged. "I don't see an issue there.."

"You'll like this group, I think," Olmos noted hopefully. "Ennis, you've met. He's not as experienced as Nalla is, but he's really good with people. So if Nalla comes here to consult, remind him that he earned his position."

"I can do that." Siaxx answered with a smile. "Him, I'm not worried about."

"He just needs to understand that Nalla has a gifted mind. She perfects a craft in half the time it takes most others," Olmos explained. "She lacks the experience and bedside manner. Which is where he excels."

Siaxx raised an eyebrow. "Ennis is loyal and dependable. Rachael thinks the world of him which is enough for me." she paused. "Well.. as your Exec, I don't see me spending much time down here.."

"I do want you to get to know your docs. Know their strengths," Olmos suggested. "It's an intrepid, so maybe organize a few game and movie nights."

"Sounds like a good idea.. I was going to organize a few talent nights and potluck dinners.." she paused. "I'll add in your ideas in addition to my own and see how it goes from there."

"I'll let you get things settled on Roanoke. Come here once you're ready," Olmos spoke with a huge grin.

"I have some leave time which I plan on taking.... Does this affect your plans any?" Siaxx inquired.

"Oh no," Olmos assured. "We're here until Starfleet Medical or Tane tells us when to go."

"Excellent... so I'll go take my leave time then I'll come back before we ship out, making the time of course to get to know my loyal and obedient crew."

"I'll give you the access for the crew roster. Incoming and current," Olmos promised.

"Sounds good sir. I look forward to working with you." Siaxx smiled up at the taller woman.

"Go have some fun, Siaxx." Olmos winked at the Bolian.

"I will." the small Bolian responded. "After I catch up with your Chief of Clinic... My sibling."

"I should catch up with my daughter, come to think of it." Olmos nodded more to herself with that thought.

"Then I will take my leave of you." and with that Siaxx waited to be dismissed.

"On your way Siaxx," Olmos smiled, happy to be getting a brilliant XO.
