Mission:
Mission 33: Losing the Peace
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 0800Hrs - May 8th, 2391
The sickbay doors opened and in walked Ensign Elizabeth Yamaguchi, she looked exhausted and tired, but considering what had happened yesterday, one could hardly be surprised as she skidded to a halt upon seeing Phoenix, before turning away and going somewhere else, she decided to go check in and then take inventory of medical equipment.
From what Phoenix could tell, they were playing with a thin iPADD-like device that acted as a receiving pad.
"What yall up to?" Phoenix inquired as she walked up behind Siaxx and hugged her around the waist.
Siaxx smiled as she felt exhausted, she also looked rather bleary eyed as she felt an arm encircle her waist. "Hey..." she responded quietly. "Considering what happened yesterday .. Nalla never got the chance to clean up in here before she went off to meditate with Torilla... and what happened
Several of the other Medics and Doctors around were all chatting about it in excited tones.
"It's an oversized PADD," Phoenix noted enthusiastically. Then she rebuttled that tone once she realized it was more. "A miniaturized transport pad... Don' got a sturdy frame ta capture heavy stuff though."
"Its a micro-transporter... designed for use in various hard to reach places where normal surgery would be impossible." Siaxx explained briefly. "According to what I'm seeing here... this design is finished..yet Nalla is still tinkering with it.."
Windspirit, whom was hearing all the chatter, stuck her head in the room, asking," Whats this all about."
Siaxx held up the small device. "Nalla has been working on a small portable transporter for use in operations where things would either be too hard or would be too unworkable to work with."
"Looks cool," Phoenix commented to all the room. "So you guys have been testing this thing all morning?"
"I have... I've been introducing the other medical officers to the tech.."
"It is unfinished," Nalla interrupted the room as walked in. She wanted to get back to Torilla, given her condition, but Nalla also had a lab project she needed to finish.
Seeing all the doctors in her lab was a bit unnerving, since none of them really bothered her much. Few asked about her surgical transporter.
"The idea is for the surgical transporter to function in field units where surgical-grade ship biobeds are not possible," Nalla educated the bunch while keeping little eye contact with folks. "I cannot get the independant power supply to keep the device powered for more than two hours at a time before charging."
Siaxx looked at Nalla. "Can you plug it in to charge... like an old style cellphone?" she inquired.
"I can. It has a charge port compatible to biobed link-in docks," Nalla admitted. "But the idea is for this surgical transporter to be able to function in the field, when a bed is not available. And two-hour spurts of useage is not conducive for some of the more complicated surgeries needed to be done in the field."
"Mmm... You could see the R&D guys... maybe they could help..." Siaxx commented.
"I do not see an issue with inviting, so long as the majority of the credit belongs to me, on this project." It was not an ego thing for Nalla. But rather she hopped if it was her name headlining the project, and it became highly loved with Starfleet Medical, that maybe her mother would acknowledge her as her own.
Siaxx raised an eyebrow. "Nalla, you built and designed it... it would be yours alone.." the small Bolian responded with a smile.
"All right then," Nalla agreed. "I am willing to let our research team take a look at it. But this surgical tool might not be as effective to others, as my EM band is configured for bio readings. That makes it much easier for me to identify and target particulates in the body."
Siaxx paused. "Can you apply your EM band tech to this... so we can see what you can see?" the small Bolian smiled.
"My mother might be able to. I, however, am not an expert in implant replacements," Nalla admitted. "That would be best answered by our R&D team."
Siaxx nodded as she processed what she was being told. "Alright... but you still designed a very nice piece of equipment. I'd like to start training people in our battlegroup on how to use it."
"Then we will need to contact R&D to see if they can put these into production with your suggested modifications," Nalla acknowledged.
Dvald tapped her combadge. "Dvald to Kroo. Would you mind coming up to sickbay.... we have a little project that needs a little Tender loving care.." the small Bolian smiled.
A few minutes later Kroo walked in, asking," what is it."
Siaxx regarded the massive reptilian being as she felt the instinctive need to flee in panic, she took a deep breathe. "Right...Umm... Lieutenant Furban here needs a consult for a device she's been working on.." the small Bolian paused. "Nalla.... why don't you explain what exactly you need?"
"I designed a fully functional surgical transporter," Nalla began as she pulled her favorite and best built targeting pen from her front pocket. "This is the targeting sensor that helps the receiving pad and miniature transport computer lock on and transport debris from the body."
Nalla then pulled the transport pad over to her to indicate a small rectangle fill with buttons on the right side of the pad. And the main area had a blue kaleidoscope-like screensaver look to indicate the receiving area.
"The only problems I have not been able to fix, is giving the surgical transporter an independent power supply to function outside of Sickbay." Nalla then frowned. "The best I have been able to do is give the pad an hour of self-sustained power before needing a charging dock."
Kroo then gave a sigh, and said, "Well, I'm no expert in power supplies, you guys should have called Aerin to come as well, both him and Karryn have much more extensive knowledge on the subject."
"Doctor Dvald also suggested a scanning method similar to my EM band," Nalla added. "I suppose it would be logical to invite your colleagues, though I wonder if they have time. Given their demands with the airwing's new technology."
