Mission: Mission 27: Into the Jungle
Location: Planet Surface - Yeneer G1
Timeline: 1000Hrs - February 21st, 2391 - Time Dilation: 5 Months

Hakaya was starting to lose track of how long they had been here. four, five, maybe six months now, she wasn't really sure anymore. The days just seemed to run together now. She looked down at Teval, whom was still sleeping, with his three kittens curled up next to him. They where not as easy to pick up anymore, even Hakaya was surprised at how fast they where growing. As newborns they where less than 500 grams, now all three of them where reaching nearly 3 kilo's. But as far as Hakaya was concerned, they where still adorable. She looked over at Rachael, whom had just woke up, and she didn't look so well. Hakaya wasn't sure exactly when she would give birth, but it could be any day now.

"How are you feeling Rachael."

"Like I swallowed a watermelon whole." the teenager groaned. "My back is killing me and so is the rest of me..." the teen sighed softly. "I need to forage wood with Siaxx..."

Hakaya shook her head, her nose able to pick up hormonal changes in Rachael, "No, best not to worry about it, I'll deal with it."

Rachael slowly nodded. "Alright... I'll collect water... from our private river..." she paused. "do the com badges still work?"

Hakaya tapped hers, finding that it made no noise," Well, I think mine ran out of power, I don't think the others will last much longer."

Rachael tapped hers, it beeped once. "I have limited power.." she paused. "Where is Siaxx anyway?"

Hakaya looked around their rather extensive cave, but didn't see Siaxx anywhere. She then looked back at Rachael saying," Well, I don't see her."

"Okay..." she paused. "I'll start filling containers and I'll place them in the usual area." Rachael responded. "If something goes wrong though.."

Hakaya went over to Nuyari and picked her up, with Nuyari purring in response. Teval looked at his sister when she said," What, I cant help it, they're cute. I think I want some of my own."

Teval just shook his head, not fully realizing what exactly Hakaya said, so he just simply busied himself with preparing breakfast. Hakaya put Nuyari back down and walked outside, where it was early morning, and she could see the sun peeking over the horizon, with a thick mist still in the air. She then noticed Aerin sitting on a rock above the cave entrance, in which Hakaya asked, "So, kurokuri males are only seasonal huh."

Aerin was somewhat puzzled by Hakaya's statement, so he asked," Ok, um what do you mean by that."

Hakaya gave him a look, " I am asking to be sure, Kurokuri males are only fertile once every few years right."

Aerin nodded, puzzled," Once every four Akurian years, or about 7.2 federation years, what are you getting at."

Hakaya crossed her arms," Well, I want kittens of my own, and you are the only male kurokuri around that is not related to me, so i want to know when you are fertile."

Aerin didn't quite know what to think of this," Um, Hakaya, don't you think that is a little rash considering our situation."

Hakaya gave him another look," Id rather get the early years done here on the planet, since we will have the time, rather than doing that on a starship where i don't get much time."

Aerin shrugged," O.K. fair enough, it would be roughly 17 months from now, but i am still apprehensive about it."

Hakaya gave off a light smile, "Oh come on, it cant be that bad, we are getting better at this survival thing after all."

"Yeah and you and Teval are starting to get somewhere with your abilites, so I guess i cant complain too much."

Hakaya gave him a thumbs up, " See, I'd knew you would see it my way."

She then heard a loud banging sound and went inside to investigate, while Aerin took a minute to realize what just happened, in which he said to himself," Oh fuck, what did i just agree too."

Hakaya noticed Rachael was bent over, seemingly in a lot of pain, causing her to ask," whats going on."

Rachael almost whimpered. "My water broke... the bay... she's on her way..." she groaned as she tapped her combadge. "Yamaguchi to... Dvald.. emergency, I need you."

Siaxx's voice came back. "Understood.." she responded.

Rachael turned back to Hakaya. "I'd best be going.... this is going... to hurt.." she sighed as she slowly moved towards the area they had specifically set up for pregnancies and deliveries of babies.

Siaxx appeared a moment later. "Alright... come on over here Rachael, lets take a look at you." A short time later Rachael cried as she looked at Siaxx. "Siaxx... my water broke... the baby!.." she moaned softly. "God this hurts.."

"I know sweetie... just breathe.." Siaxx explained, she was using a tricorder that they had been able to recharge using the power of the sun to keep it and a few other things alive, it didn't give them much power to do many things but they could recharge tricorders and a couple of other things.

Rachael was sitting on a padded surface but she wasn't wearing any pants, she was however wearing a shirt to keep the wind away from her.

Siaxx smiled. "you're now fully dilated. ow... Push!"

Rachael snarled. "I AM PUSHING!!" she suddenly screamed as she felt the contraction pass, like a wave of pain. "Oooh.. that was something else.."

Siaxx smiled. "One and two and three and breathe."

Rachael panted and breathed. "I wish... mom was.. hee...aaaarrrggg..." she moaned loudly. "Godammiit... Siaxx. this fucking hurts.." the teen whimpered.

"It'll be okay... this is entirely normal..." the small Bolian explained.

Karryn meanwhile, whom woke up form the noise, commented to Teval," You know, I'm glad I am not a human like species, birthing looks so much harder for them."

Teval shrugged," Well, I wouldn't know anything about that, I'm male."

"Eh, really for us its not much worse than a badly constipated and hard shit."

Teval shook his head," Not an image I really needed right now."

About two hours or so Rachael whimpered as she gave one final push and suddenly, the sounds of a screaming infant filled the room as Rachael sighed, clearly exhausted.

Siaxx reached down as she cut the cord from the infant to Rachael. "You're child is now a separate being... Welcome little one... today is your first day of life..." Siaxx said to Rachael's infant in flawless Bolarus as she gently gathered the child up in a small blanket that these two have specifically replicated for the role.

Siaxx gently gave the child her first physical before she handed her off to her mother. "Here you go sweetie.... you got a name for her?"

"I do.." Rachael sounded exhausted as her eyelids began to droop. "Saki Yamaguchi. Named for our friend who died saving me."

"Saki would have been honored.." Siaxx gently draped a blanket over Rachael's body as she began to clean up the childbirth site as she gently plucked the infant from her sleeping mother.

She gently placed Saki into her new bassinet as she gave Rachael and her daughter the once over before she left them both in peace as Rachael would sleep until the child would wake her, then Saki would want feeding.

Siaxx smiled as she knew what was coming for her young friend but those trials of motherhood would start tomorrow.

Karryn looked over to Hakaya and Teval, saying," You know, it it's just so much easier for our species."

Teval nodded as he cradled Nuyari in his arms.
