Mission: Mission 28: Those who Remain
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 1100Hrs - February 21st, 2391

Olga Vaal and Gunther Werner were finishing up maintenance checks on the extra armor in the vault. "Why isn't Slag doing this?" Werner asked.

"Would you trust Slag with peoples' armor?" Olga replied.

Werner thought about what Olga said. "No, I guess your right." He conceded.

The Armory's intercom came alive "Olga Vaal, please report to the CO's office." Rohr's voice announced.

"What did you do now?" Werner asked flatly.

"I not sure." Olga replied. "I haven't done anything in a while."

Olga made here way to Daisy's office. She chimed and waited. She was a little nervous as to why she had been called to the office. There were a few things that Olga did that she thought she got away with. Something had caught up with her. "Enter" a voice ordered.

"Corporal Olga Vaal reporting Sir." Olga saluted Daisy.

Daisy returned the salute. "You're no longer a Corporal." Daisy told Olga in a an even voice. "We know what you have done and you have to get what you deserve."

Olga sighed. "I guess I do deserve this but can you reconsider?"

"You most certainly do." Daisy looked at Olga harshly. "And no, I won't reconsider."

Olga grimaced and pulled the corporal rank from her uniform. Olga handed the rank to Daisy who handed her back rank. Olga looked at the rank, puzzled.

"Excuse me Sir." Olga alerted Daisy. "These are Sergeant's ranks."

Daisy smiled at her "That's right. Congratulations, your a sergeant Olga."

Olga looked coolly at Daisy. "Thank you Sir."

"I thought you would be happy." Daisy told Olga.

"Well," Olga hesitated "I am. It's just I have more responsibility now."

"Yes you do." Daisy told her. "Good luck Sergeant Vaal." Daisy saluted Olga.

Olga saluted back "Thank you Sir."

As Olga was leaving when Daisy spoke up. "Sergeant can you have Private Werner report to Sergeant Major Duval? I'm not sure what it's about."

Olga nodded as she left. As Olga returned Werner spotted her and laughed.

"Guess you'll be on the straight and narrow now." Werner told Olga.

Olga smiled back. "Yeah, fun time is over. By the way, the Sergeant Major wants to chat with you."

" 'bout what?" Werner asked.

Olga shook her head. "Don't know. Good luck Gunther."

Werner put away his work and headed up to the COB's office.

Sargent Major Duval was sitting in his office, chatting about a matter of affairs with an officer who'm he didn't know. "Well... you're the Gunny for that ship... you handle it... I'd rather keep this in house.."

"I don't like backhanded deals and Werner deserves better.." Duval explained evenly.

"Yeah well this was the best I was able to get... "

"I'll talk to him about it." Duval responded quietly as the door beeped. "Its Open!" he called

The door opened and in walked Werner. "Ahh Werner. come on in..." Duval handled the introductions. "Gunther Werner. this is Commander Jango'tat Nesbis of Starfleet Intelligence."

Werner looked a little trepid. "Hello Commander." He nervousness was obvious. "How can I help you."

Nesbis nodded. "Well... I can offer you a deal... You'll be reinstated to your old rank of Staff Sargent and your criminal record will go away." he explained. "you'll also get a commendation for assisting with our investigation simply because of the fact that others have screwed up." he paused. 'the agreement is that you have to agree that Piterzoon died a hero at Igaro IV."

The look on Duval's face said much as he almost growled, one could see the smoke coming out of his ears.

Werner looked as if had been struck upside the head by a Gorn. "Um..." Sir can I have a moment with the Sergeant Major?"

Nesbis nodded as the screen went black.

"Sergeant Major, What do I do?" Werner asked almost in a panic. "I'll get my rank back but this whole thing is Piterzoon's fault. That guy caused a lot of good people to get killed."

Duval regarded Werner. "You're a good Marine... you came back that first night and every night since then when you didn't have to... you proved that you were worth it... the question you face is... do you want your old rank back.... or not... Personally, I'd recommend you turn this down... But I'm an asshole like that... It's your call Werner?"

"Thank you Sergeant Major," Werner told him. Werner looked at the deck for a moment. A forlorn look on his face. He turned Commander Nesbis back on. "Alright, Sir. I agree with your terms."

Duval was not expecting this and the look on his face said as much. He hated that a coward, a miscreant, and a traitor was being given the status of 'hero'. It offended him but what pissed him off, even more, was that he was being made to present this offer, also that Werner was likewise getting shafted.

Nesbis told Werner that he would receive the paperwork soon and then faded out. Werner couldn't face Duval. "Sorry Sergeant Major. I was just in jail for too long."

"Nothing to apologize for Gunther. I would have done the same in your shoes.." Duval answered as he gently placed a hand on the other man's shoulder. "So soon as you finish here.. go on down to the lounge and enjoy a few drinks... Stop by sickbay and take your girlfriend too.." Duval commented. "I'll clear it with the skipper."

"Thank you Sergeant Major," Werner told Duval. Werner quickly finished his business and left.
