It delighted Giaus that there was some commonality in their paths. "So I guess that we are both sitting here because we chose to take a right on the fork in the road. Hoping for something less redundant. As they say back at home, we chose to "Seize the day". On the other hand, we do cater to the needs of another just by being here. To me, it is just on better terms." Well, better for the most part. There was that not so little thing called the Dominion War, but Giaus chose to keep those memories somewhere else. He concentrated on the present moment, seizing the day.
"Much better terms I think. Even though I do regret being talked out of serving in the marines after it got around about my talent of the mind." She then smiled a bit and giggled, "That and a very sweet Captain said I was too pretty of a girl. Being as I was younger and more impressionable back then... well now I'm a fleeter."
Giaus was actually grateful that she was talked out of the Marines. There was no telling what his life experience would have done to such an intelligent and promising person, had it happened to her. "Well, you didn't miss much skipping the Marines. I for one, did not exactly come from a space faring race. Besides the USS Centurion, and a few fleeters, most of my people chose to go to where Romans fared the best, land operations. The tradition of the Legions. At least there is one more fleeter I can get along with." He could not help but to keep smiling.
"As I am glad to have a marine that I can get along with now that I am out of that line of the service." She then chuckled, "I guess us 'rule breakers' got to stick together."
"Yes we do." Ironic to Giaus to agree with this, since Magna Romans were known as a group of conformists. Deep inside, that may have been a reason he decided to make a career out of the Marines. Giaus has really enjoying Holly's company. He has not been this happy since...Lavinia. Now the thoughts of happiness and caution seemed to be working themselves out in his mind. Caution also seemed to be making some giant concessions. Death, after all, was supposed to be a trivial thing to his people. Almost three thousand years of arena broadcasts have desensitized most of them. Like he said to Holly earlier, seize the day... "I have to ask you something Holly. When the Marines are finally off Condition 3, can I entertain you with dinner, in normal attire?"
Holly would have normally said no as it was in her nature not to really mix personal with professional, but for some reason Giaus was different. Something about him was drawing her attention, so she smiled before she answered his question. "Yes, I think I would like that as I am enjoying your company even in uniform."
"Excellent." That was the only word Giaus could muster at this time. He could not help but to keep smiling as the conversation continued. This was indeed a beautiful moment. Speaking of beautiful, he was just starting to notice that trait in the woman in front of him. He was surprised that he did not really notice this first. Not entirely true. Her smile is what got his attention in the first place. At least between now, and the time the Marines stood down, he needed to research what Betazoids could, and could not eat.
Alec had taken some time away from the flight deck and away from his fighter to explore the Promenade. He had already brought some decorations for his room which he had planned on taking straight back but caught eye of a cafe which was somewhat busy and had a group of marines in a group who had pushed two tables together and took up most of the room. Walking by he nodded as he moved to the counter and ordered himself a hot chocolate and a slice of cake.
Jake turned his head as he took in the scene in the cafe at a glance, he didn't know the Fighter pilot at the bar but he knew his old CO was back in uniform and on the base, it was good to see Fives again and the female officer was someone that Torilla had pointed out to him awhile ago as being Lieutenant Holly Gillo.
Apparently according to Torilla, she was a formidable Psionic, which only made Torilla a happy woman, for reasons Jake knew about but never understood as he turned his attention back to the Marines, he never said who he was but that as simply because he was out of uniform and he hated the pomp and circumstances around his rank and posting.
Jake had watched as the massive Marine had taken his leave and had gone over to join the Lieutenant. Siaxx had also watched in silence, her dark eyes revealing nothing as she regarded Jake. "How life treating you sir?"
"No sir, Siaxx... I'm in civilian clothing.... leave the sir at the door." Yamaguchi answered with a smile. "I hate people calling me sir... makes me feel overly important or that I'm getting old..... and I am neither." he looked at the Colonel. "Right Jax?"
"I know exactly what you mean," Jax replied. "I have been lectured many times for being too familiar with my marines."
Yamaguchi nodded. "see, these guys understand my way of thinking."
"Jake, your way of thinking scares me at times.." the Bolian admitted.
"Oh stop worrying so much..." Yamaguchi responded, clearly enjoying a joke at the Bolian's expense.
After coming off shift, Jack, along with Walshie, Travers and Watson, walked into the Promenade and was immediately in awe. it was the first time he had been in the room since his arrivel on SB 400 and was amazed by the wide open space and the comfyness of the chairs and.......well everything really.
He turned to Ensign Walsh and said 'i should come here more often'.
Walsh replied with 'yeah it's alright, but watch out for the marines in here'.
They sat by one of the windows, Travers ordered the drinks and Watson pulled out a pack of cards and they set up a game of poker.
Jack turned to Walsh and asked him who was in the room.
"well, over there by that big window we got Colonel Jackson, he's CO of the marines on this tub; next to him is Giaus Aquila he's the MASROC specialist -"
when jack was going to interrupt his with a quizical look. Walsh said "dont even ask me what that means".
he continued at a brisk pace; "then over there we got Ensign Chevrat, AB Thomas, AB Damon, LT Gillo; she head of OPS on this bucket, CPO Hartley, civvie, civvie, civvie, LT-CDR Yamaguchi, nearly missed her, she's CO USS Venator and STRATOPSEXEC". "and thats pretty much it sir".
Watson said "i wouldn't employ him as a tour guide"
Walsh replied "i have you know i'm on first names terms with the Admiral, the Vulcan Ambassador and the Klingon double agent currently hiding that plant pot". everyone laughed. Travers just growled in his usual style.
That was when a female Bolian seemed to appear. "Aww you forgot me.... I'm hurt... and you also forgot about Captain Yamaguchi.... " clearly she had heard everything. "and the lady in the corner.... thats not Torilla... but its one of her people..."
Watson poked Walsh in the ribs and chuckled "see, i told you i would'nt employ him as a tour guide"
Walshie took a sip of his drink and said "i'm much happier wrapped around a warp drive anyway". he then made the formal introduction. "Jack, meet LT Siaxx Dvald MD, Medical: Siaxx, meet LT JG Jack Wooldridge, Engineering; he's brand new so go easy on him ma'am". Jack chuckled and stood up to salute a senior officer. Walshie continued, "And for what do we earn this lovely pleasure ma'am, do i have the honour of getting you a drink?".
Siaxx smiled impishly at the two questions. "Well I was just looking for lunch before I went back to work... but yes... you may have the honor of buying me a drink" the Bolian commented with a grin. "Besides. you know how it is... paperwork to file and reports to do.."
Science Department
As Nuala entered the lab she saw a dark haired young women going over a PADD. She was next to a piece of damaged metal and obviously running an analysis.
"Hello Ensign." Nuala tried to get her attention without acting rude.
"Oh, hello there Lieutenant. I'm Ensign Fraray, I'm a metallurgist. I don't think we have met?" Faray asked.
"No, I'm a little new here. I'm Nuala Takabe. I've been on the Yorktown. Is the Chief Science Officer in?" Nuala asked.
"Captain L'Verrem? No, he is still out on a mission." Faray told her.
"What about the Assistant Chief Science Office?" Nuala asked.
Faray gave Nuala an odd look. "I think your the assistant chief science officer Lieutenant." Faray told her.
Nuala went over to a monitor and brout up the Science departments chain of command. "Your right, it's me." Nuala stated.
"Anything thing else Lieutenant? I have to finish analyzing this metal." Faray informed Takabe.
"No, no, please carry on." Nuala replied. "Is that metal battle damaged?" she asked the ensign.
"It's from an experiment our R and D guy, Commander Stark, is running." Faray told Nuala.
