Captain Heather Walking Bear slowly smiled. "Well. I am designated as the last survivor of my extended family. So I got a rather full house as a result. I have a younger sibling who drops by to help with matters. But even so, it's still a very full house." She paused. "I have my four children. I have children from two of my sisters. I also have the children from my sister-in-law as well." she explained. "Patricia has two, her wife has two and Jennifer has two. So ten in all. Thats eleven counting you." she paused. "The majority of them are teenagers. So. I suspect that they might be facing some of life's most potent trials together. Like sex." Walking Bear explained. "Everyone in my family is bisexual, honey. All my siblings. Both mom and dad were as well. I know my eldest is gay, considering she came out and said as much last week." Heather paused. "It made for quite the chat around the dinner table."
For B'Elanna, the notion of one's sexual orientation being discussed around the dinner table was insane. She would never consider the matter as being up for discussion. It is not alone worthy of being shared either. "You discussed it... As a family?" she asked, the tone of her voice indicated she was highly suprised.
"Of course." Walking Bear commented. "It started with Marie saying she had something she wished to tell us. Then she came out and said that she preferred the company of the ladies." She then smiled. "Who knows, she might want to get to know you."
B'Elanna had made no secret of the fact that she was bisexual. She liked the ladies as well as the guys in her bed. Not to mention that she had known what sex was like. Considering that to date, B'Elanna had had sex three times with two different people. One of those was a human male, and the other was a Bajoran female. "Maybe." she paused. "If she did, would you be comfortable with it?"
Walking Bear slowly smiled. "I would leave that one alone. I'm only my daughter's parent, not her keeper. I would trust her judgement. But, then I don't know you at the present time." she explained. "Maybe that'll change. But I'm not too worried about it. I don't interfere in the lives of those under my protection. I'm not about to start now." she explained herself.
B'Elanna nodded her head as she took a moment to process what she was being told. "I understand. But maybe Marie and I will hate each other," she added with a smile.
"Perhaps." Walking Bear answered with a gentle smile on her lips. "If you two do end up with issues. Please try and work them out between you okay?" she asked. "Ten children in my care and working a full-time assignment will be exhausting at the best of times. My husband is in the same boat as me, as is Kalliope. My younger sibling who's helping out with matters of state." she added.
"Ahh," B'Elanna answered. "I assume you do not wish for me to help out?" she asked.
"No, honey. That won't be necessary." Walking Bear answered with a gentle nod of her head. "You got enough baggage on your plate to worry about. I've also taken liberty with a couple of matters that I hope you are okay with. I've already asked James to inform everyone that you are coming to stay with us. I've asked that they give you space and time to settle in and process recent events." Walking Bear answered. "I have a house full of teenagers and pre-teenagers. It's going to be lousy and noisy. I suspect a couple will want to get to know you." She then paused. "Maybe all of them will. You will be a fresh face for them."
"Hopefully we can get along. I am prepared for the alternative, however." B'Elanna answered. "Also, you will not need to worry about Klingon food, since I was raised with human cuisine. I find most Klingon food to be just strange to me these days," she explained. "I tend not to be too discriminatory about it. I tend to eat whatever's put on my plate, so long as it's cooked of course," she added.
"Excellent. Most of my charges tend to eat their meals whenever. Since the dinner table is rather small. I had only six spaces. Now I need a dinner table thats doubles that. More actually." Walking Bear added. "Hopefully you won't have any issues with settling in. My home is your home." she paused while she rose to her feet. "Come on. I'll give you a tour of these quarters. They are quite small but they serve me." she explained.
B'Elanna followed in silence.
