"She and Beth were..." Kameron paused as he sighed softly. "Ending their friendship." Kam decided to come out and just say it aloud.

"Oh... I'm sorry." Solusar answered, he had not expected to hear that statement. The look on his face said as much.

"So am I dad. Its been a bad day for all involved." Kameron answered. "But the good news is... Beth will accept the assignment you offered her." he wanted to move the conversation away from Fordring as he knew it would only upset his spouse and her being upset wasn't something Kameron wanted to deal with at the present time.

"Nice," Solusar answered. "I know she's having issues so I will have plenty of paperwork lined up, she can do it all on her terms. However much she likes... If she doesn't feel up to it then that's fine too... Officially, she'll be serving as an extra aide to me. I have three already so she'll be assisting them with their work... I also explained her situation to my other sides so they won't be shifting off work to her... But they will be coordinating with her on matters of state." Ranik knew he needed to placate his son who was ferociously protective of his spouse. This was something Ranik respected so he needed to sell this assignment to his son.

"Okay," Kameron answered but he needed to ask this question anyway. "What if Beth is having a bad day?" he decided to be blunt on the matter at hand.

"Then she is having a bad day. She doesn't need to be handling paperwork for all hours of the day. Elizabeth will be on reduced hours... She's worked so hard to get to where she is. I do not want her career to suffer because of the misdeeds of others." Ranik explained. "This will allow her to progress to higher ranks and the assignment is only good for until she finishes her maternity leave. Which if I recall is about six months after she has her baby." Solusar explained. "If she wishes to work longer for me then that's fine. I'll happily keep her but then she'll have to take on another assignment for me."

"Yeah, that sounds about right," Kameron answered to his father's first statement before he listened to his father's explanation of his wife's new assignment. "There will be no calling her in the middle of the night?"

"Fuck no," Ranik answered bluntly. "I've made it clear to my guys that after fifteen hundred. She is not to be bothered for any reason. Same with any time before oh nine hundred. On pain of upsetting a four-star General." he added. "I want Beth to feel she can contribute something and have her career progress... But if she's having a bad day then she can handle matters. My guys can handle matters."

Kameron smiled. "You make it all sound too good to be true dad."

"Well. I can justify many things to many people. All the marines here in the Taurus Reach answer to me so more or less... I can do whatever I wish, within reason of course." Ranik explained. "Besides. Elizabeth's father also has good cause to worry about her too and I do not need to be honking him off. I might be the ranking Marine but I don't need poor relations with him because I did nothing to assist with matters."

Kameron paused. "Fair enough," he answered.

"Besides. They allowed you to wear their name in addition to your own." Ranik added. "So you must see something in them that's worthy. Despite my failings."

"Well... You guys and I weren't talking and that didn't seem to change... So Elizabeth's folks took me in and made me one of their own." Kameron paused. "But you should discuss the matter with Fleet Captain Torilla Yamaguchi. She was the one who made the final decision," he explained.

"I've heard of her from others," Ranik commented as he began dicing up the meat before him. "They say she's really good at what she does... I am also told that there are those who want her to take a more diplomatic role."

"That would be a waste, Dad," Kameron answered bluntly. "Mom isn't what you want for a diplomat," he added.

"A fair point," Ranik answered, just then the door opened and out came Elizabeth, wearing a pair of jean shorts and a simple t-shirt. "Hey, guys, what's happening?"

"We're just discussing recent events honey," Ranik answered Elizabeth with a smile. "Kam's been good enough to update me while I cook dinner for you guys." what he left unsaid was that Kameron had referred to Elizabeth's mother as his mother rather than Jessica Solusar. He knew he would need to speak to his own wife on the matter and that he would need to do it soon.
