"Ohmygod... I'm so sorry..." Melody gasped. She had jabbed Yeager in a massive open, festering wound that had never healed. "I don't speak of her because it hurts dad... Mentioning Ja'nette does three things... He gets upset, he gets angry and he blames himself for her death... My mother was tortured to death Melody... She died screaming... My father almost went mad because of it..." Yeager explained. "Oh, I wanted to know... He didn't tell me, he refused to tell me. I went digging, he forbade it, I pressed, he stood his ground and then I called her an unfit mother... Yet, I was only an arrogant child... I didn't know what I had done...To him, that is..."
"So you got the truth out of him."
"At what cost..." Yeager answered quietly. "Oh Melody, you have no idea of the scope of my crime... How I envy your lack of restraint when you hurt your mother, so easily... and in public, no less..." Yeager regarded the smaller female before her.
"We all make mistakes..." Melody admitted.
"How I admire your composure as you do it so easily... But you failed to understand what I had done to my father... I didn't anger him, oh that would have been so easy... so simple..." the half-Klingon women smiled in genuine amusement. "No, I broke him... He had never forgotten or forgiven, even though he did claim the rite of vengeance and he slew my mother's killer... The case was closed... For him at least... But not for me... and when I insulted her memory... I watched him get angry... angrier then I had ever known him and he damaged his desk... Rather than hit me... Broke six bones in his hand with the force of the blow... It spiderwebbed the crystal on his desk... He never got it fixed and he never got it replaced... He kept it as a reminder of my ignorance... But I knew that he really kept it as a sign that I could not be trusted ever again..."
"You can't know that..." Melody responded quietly. "It's not the same..."
"Are you even listening to me!. Melody... Look, I am saying this to you so others don't need to... Stop doing what you're doing. Harping on about mom and your biological father never-ending up together was not mom's fault." Yeager said angrily. "Iason smashed her face in and Mom wasn't there to fuck Orthos, she was there to have dinner with him, his own spouse and his two young children were present and Iason still allowed those two children to see that he was happy to inflict violence in his house, on a woman that Orthos still has a thing for..." Yeager paused. "Fuck, you were there with me that day when Iason smashed mom's face in... I wanted Orthos to pay his son back for what he had done to my mother... You did nothing... You refused to do anything..."
"Dad had the matter in hand..." Melody answered.
"Yet, you allowed him to break mom's face. Orthos's other children all acted, his sisters acted and... Fuck, even Daisy acted... Dad was ready to pull Orthos off of Iason... Yet you... Did nothing... You wanted Orthos to beat his son, didn't you... Or... Does it go further than that?" Yeager paused. "Oh... I get it.. you don't want your dad to deal with Iason... You want his blood for yourself... You want him to suffer, as he made you and mom suffer..."
"You're not a good therapist..." Melody commented softly. "You are too obvious..."
"I'm not a therapist. I'm not licensed... But my stock in trade is Operations with a side of tactical... So, what do you want to blow up?" Yeager asked. "Melody, you and mom really need to sit down and discuss this matter, once and for all... hammer out a peace you both can live with... Do not make my mistake... For if you do, you'll-"
"What... Turn out like mom?" Melody couldn't help herself, she was too far past angry to even care anymore what it was the other woman said on this or any other matter.
"Worse..." Yeager paused. "You'll turn into me... With a regret that I can never erase and a wound I can never heal... and a father who can never forgive me for it... If you must do nothing at all, then take my advice... Dig two graves... for you'll need both at the end of your fight you wage with mom over a pointless argument that was lost before you were even born." Yeager turned and walked off, as if she had a previous injury. Melody stood in silence, unsure of what to do now, as she came to realize that there was nothing to be done about what had happened and that there were somethings she could never change.
