Mission:
Mission 97: The Fleet Reorganization Saga
Location: Various Locations - USS Avalon / The Tellar Fleetyards
Timeline: 0830Hrs - September 22nd, 2392
Commander Jamil Newsom had watched in silence as Neban Hular had cleared all of his things out of the ready room, the day before and now the room was empty, a shell of what was once here and that suited Newsom just fine, he knew his wife would also eventually get a promotion to either her own command or the rank of Captain and her own command, either way he knew it was coming and it was something he had been preparing for now for quite some time, their children had known something was happening almost before Phoolan and Jamil had the chance to share the news with them.
Phoolan and Jamil had both suspected the other of telling but their eldest simply shook his head. "Nobody told us ma. We knew." Michael who had just turned nine years old the previous month looked up at his parents while his siblings simply nodded their heads in agreement.
Phoolan raised an eyebrow. "Yes well. I'm going to command my own ship and your dad will remain here commanding this ship."
"So.. What does that mean for us?"
"You'll remain with the two of us, going from one to the other," Warfield explained to her three young children who all shared a rather strange look.
Newsom raised an eyebrow. "Your mother and I both command separate ships so for now, you'll remain here with me. Your mother and I will need to sort things out between us," he explained to his children.
Michael shifted his attention from his mother to his father, but he didn't say anything for a moment. "Maybe," he admitted.
Newsom and Warfield were both confused before they shared a look. "Is something wrong son.?" Warfield inquired with a soft smile.
"You're leaving us. I knew you would.." James commented with a tone of resignation.
Newsom nodded to Warfield. "Ahh." he sighed. "I should have seen this one coming."
Warfield turned to her her husband, she was confused and hurt with what her children were saying to her. "What?" she sounded surprised.
"The kids here, think we are separating and will no longer be their parents.." he regarded his children as they all nodded in agreement.
Warfield looked shocked. "Leave.. what?!"
"Well. Kids, your mother and I are military and we sometimes have to go where we're sent. Your mother is in demand so she's off to command another ship like this one. That does not mean she won't be your mother or that I won't be your father." Newsom explained. "But it does point out a problem that must be addressed."
Warfield shook her head. "No. I mean my children think that I'm leaving home and won't be their mom anymore." she sounded like she couldn't believe it. "I can't believe I'm hearing this."
"Mmmm, believe it. Phoolan" Newsom responded. "Kids. We did try to explain this that sometimes one of us or the other has to leave because we've been split up by the demands of the uniform." Newsom commented. "That time has come."
Warfield regarded her children. "I am not leaving you guys or your Dad. I won't be going far but I'll be going to my own command. We'll make this work somehow, we'll talk on subspace."
The three children all shared a look. "Okay." the youngest child commented as Phoolan Junior looked up at her mother.
Warfield nodded. "It'll be alright kids, your babysitter will be present shortly," she commented. "You guys got that school trip you'll be going out on." and just then as she was speaking, the doorbell beeped.
Newsom went over to the door, he smiled as he regarded the school teacher before him. "Hello."
"Ahh, Hi Commander Newsom. I'm here to collect your kids for the field trip."
"Oh, right. Of course." he turned. "Kids, Ms. James is here for you."
"Yay!" the middle child cheered as he went over to the door, moments later he and his two siblings were gone, leaving mom and dad alone.
Phoolan went into the bedroom, her husband following her. "It's gonna be alright Phoolan. I'm due for Captain soon but-"
"But we're still separated by assignments Jamil." Warfield responded in a gentle tone of voice. "But it'll be okay, we'll deal with it as best we can." she added.
