| Personal History | Commander Jamil Newsom was born in 2137 on one of El'Auria's furthest colonies, called Levian and while he was greatly interested in learning, even spending a few extra years in schooling to further his education. It was his time at the University of Clarian city on the El'Aurian homeworld that allowed him to meet his first wife and it was here where he had three children with her. For a time, about eighty years or so he lived in harmony as he went from the homeworld and he settled on a second colony world, named Choris and it was here where he remained in various positions until the Borg came and consumed the El'Aurian Nation, going through the systems one after another, millions fled to this colony world and when Jamil was able to arrange passage for some off of the world, heading into deep space, most of the remaining military assembled here and Jamil joined them. It was here he learned how to fight, how to live and how to die. Losing his entire family at the hands of the Borg as the virus that they were, consumed the homeworld and each colony, one after another until they came here to Choris. Jamil commanded one of the last ships that fled the ruins of Choris as he watched the military fight to the last man, self-destructing their ships or ramming Borg vessels in their last desperate stand, hoping that some would survive the holocaust of their race. In twenty-three twenty, Jamil went back to school to further his education, needing to bring it in line with Federation school requirements and it was here he joined Starfleet around 2324, he enlisted as a changed man, even his own people didn't recognize him anymore, he had nothing, only the clothes on his back and while Starfleet gave this angry and bitter man a purpose. They also helped him face down his ancient enemy, the Borg when they encountered the Enterprise at system J25 in 2365. Jamil who was serving as an instructor at the academy by this time, went into Starfleet Borg tactical and requested to work for them, he ended up going to the Utopia Planitia Shipyards, working on ships like the Defiant Class, the refitted Akira Class and the Prometheus Class. Jamil remained here, working on some of these designs, seeing some go to full-scale production, seeing others get tossed away, he salvaged one design and it became the Comet Class, a tactical variant on the Luna class. The late twenty-three sixties saw a major upswing in Starfleet's issues with the number of aggressive species wanting a piece of the Federation and that only got worse into the early twenty-three seventies so Jamil went back into the Fleet as the Chief Tactical Officer of the USS Konigsburg, an Akira Class ship, it was here he served until Operation: Return when he had his ship destroyed out from under him, as he and four hundred others fled their dying ship, they left behind their Captain and a hundred or so others to be consumed in the fires that would tear the ship apart. Newsom ended up on the Kingston, an older Ambassador before she was damaged at the battle of Coridan, then he went over to the USS Courageous as a junior tactical officer, he cited that he needed less responsibility and not more as he was in it only to fight the Dominion. He would remain here on the Courageous until twenty-three eighty-eight, over a dozen years as Captain Neban Hular needed an Exec, he selected Jamil Newsom to go with him, the warrior in him agreed whereas the man wanted to raise his children alongside his wife who followed him over to the Avalon where he remained as Exec until mid 2392 before he was promoted to her center seat, his wife and many others of the crew were transferred to other postings or promoted and reassigned. Because the Avalon and the Benton operate together, it's going to be a little weird for the Newsom family to adjust. |
