Torilla Falls: The Firstborn

Posted on Thu Mar 12th, 2020 @ 3:10am by Lieutenant Commander Gabriel Yamaguchi & Lieutenant Savannah Yamaguchi

Mission: Mission 86: A Hero Falls
Location: Various Locations - USS Dreamcrusher
Timeline: 1900Hrs - May 17th, 2392

Lieutenant Savannah Yamaguchi was about to go off watch as she did around nineteen hundred hours but she was doing her last checks and diagnostics of the watch, the USS Dreamcrusher was in a war zone and she, along with her husband together, was both always on call in case of a Klingon attack. Their original assignment, the USS Spirit of Winter had been sent back to the dockyards for repairs, the USS Tranquility had gone with her, both ships had been loaded to the bilges with wounded.

Savannah reached up with her left hand, she wiped her forehead, removing the few strands of hair that had gotten into her eyes, distracting her from her work as she tapped the display with her right hand. "Mmm.. that issue with the starboard computer core is still there. I'll mark it for the night shift to handle." she mused softly to herself. Now that everyone was doing port and starboard steaming, it meant more hours but it also meant more people to help with issues and problems. Something that Savannah herself truly appreciated at times.

It was then that she got a notice to the casualty report, she raised an eyebrow while she wondered a moment as to why she herself was getting the notice rather than the Dreamcrushers Executive Officer, which was Daniel McKnight.

She raised an eyebrow as it suddenly dawned on her that someone in her family had just died, killed in action as the term went and she was getting notice of it now. With suddenly nerveless fingers and with a feeling as cold as nitrogen ice moving up her spine, she tapped the notification. Dreading what she would find but Savannah knew that she had to know what had happened and who had died.

It opened as she regarded the notice on the casualty list and Savannah felt her heart skip a beat, it was indeed someone in her family but what was worse, it was the one person in her entire life other than her husband to meant something to her, not that she didn't trust or love the people she shared life with but Gabriel's family were not blood to her. His mother, however, was the first to welcome her into the family and the first to treat her like a member of the family since Torilla and Savannah had a great deal in common, they were both orphans and they were both alone in life, Jake gave Torilla a family and Gabriel had given Savannah a family.

Savannah's eyes opened wide as she left out a soft gasp.

Meanwhile at the back of the bridge, at the tactical station. Gabriel Yamaguchi could almost feel the surge of emotions in his wife as he looked up from the diagnostic check he was performing on Dreamcrusher's weapons array. Gabriel looked at her as he knew not to draw attention to the fact that he was a telepath and could sense his wife's fear and panic, something was really wrong so he gently reassured her that it was okay.

Savannah turned her head to look at her husband before she nodded once, then she turned her attention back to her panel. It was not common knowledge on Dreamcrusher's bridge that husband and wife often talked silently. Gabriel could tell by the look on her face alone that something very bad had just taken place and he would soon be hearing about it.

The clock struck nineteen hundred hours as Gabriel's assistant department head. Lieutenant junior grade Bart Mentevis arrived. "Hey, El Tee. I'm here to relieve you."

"Thanks, Bart. I'm still running a level two diagnostic of the phasers and a level three of the missile launchers on the port dorsal side of the saucer, I didn't like the results I was getting." Yamaguchi explained, a forced smile on his lips.

"No worries. Consider the issues handled and resolved." Mantevis responded in his accent that marked him as a native of the Vega Confederation. It was the name that Vega colony had given to itself over a century earlier and now had more than forty colonies of its own, a small power inside the power that was the Federation.

"Ahh, I love working with you Bart. You always put a smile on my face." Gabriel responded with a smile. "Now I'm off to the gym, I have a need to crank some iron."

"Have fun with that El-Tee." as the two men parted company. Gabriel chased his wife into the forward turbolift rather than take the aft one as he normally did. He knew something was wrong in the Kingdom of Savannah but he didn't ask her about it as this wasn't the time or place for such a conversation. She knew this too while she took his hand in hers. "Deck Six, Family quarters," Savannah commented quietly.

Gabriel held his silence as the two of them lived together and had children together. She looked up at him since the two of them were heading to the same destination. Gabriel could wait until they got to their new home to find out what was bothering his wife.

The doors slid open moments later as the two exited the turbolift, moving down the hallway. Gabriel regarded his wife in silence, she looked back at him but he had never known her to exhibit such strong emotions before.

The two entered their home as he turned to her. "Whats wrong?" he asked her gently as he slipped off his boots at the door, his wife did likewise.

Gabriel wasn't expecting her answer. "You didn't get the notice?. Did you?." Savannah asked him gently, her voice breaking even as she asked.

"I don't normally check my database until-" he paused. "Oh no. What's happened?" Gabriel regarded her, she was fighting her emotions.

Savannah gently grasped his shoulders before she indicated the display. "You'd.. you'd best go see... see it for.. yourself." as she spoke, Gabe could tell that she was having a hard time holding things together so the news had to be really bad news.

Gabriel sat down at the workstation the two kept in their quarters before he shrugged off his jacket, he tapped the display before entering his access code, that was something that he and Savannah had done to prevent the children from tampering with the computer.

Gabe's emotions went from worried to afraid, someone in his family had gotten hurt and he was about to find out who. Was it Rachael on the USS Roanoke, or her husband on the USS Tranquility?. Was it Elizabeth or Kameron on the USS Dreamcrusher, or mom on the Courageous?. "Shit... Well.. Let's find out."

Gabriel noticed the notification in the two right corner, indicating that he had mail, he raised an eyebrow as he tapped it once with his right middle finger, the message opened and informed him of the death of his mother.

Gabriel blinked as he processed the news. "I don't believe it." he paused as his thoughts turned to memories he shared with his mother, from the earliest memories to just last week, his mother had been a massive part of his entire life, she had been there for everything, minus the time he had spent on Earth with the Dominion war, being looked after by his paternal grandfather. Ben Yamaguchi.

Now one of the guiding lights of his life, the north pole of his small world, the center of his universe, had died, her light had gone out like a candle in the wind. He sat back in the chair he was seated in as he left out a soft sigh, he closed his eyes as he began to weep.

Meanwhile in the bedroom. Savanah too was weeping as she could no longer contain her emotions, tears spilled down her face as she changed out of her clothing before she wanted to take a shower but first she decided to go and check on Gabriel, she knew that in her heart of hearts that he would take his mother's death very hard, she emerged from the bedroom wearing only a bra and panties. She moved into the spare room the two of them kept as an extra workspace and a study when she heard him crying.

Savannah looked around the room quickly, all was as it used to be as she had half expected him to demolish the room and everything in it. Gabriel looked up at her as she gently sat down in his lap, curling her arms around his form as he did likewise to her. "I don't believe it," Gabriel said, misery evident in his tone of voice before he wiped at his eyes, they came away wet with his tears.

"I know. She was the only thing I could really call mom." Savannah responded, her emotions clouding her voice. "Oh, Gabe. Why her?"

"Mom.." Gabriel paused. "I don't know.. I don't know what to do.."

"Nothing..." Savannah responded. "Just... hold me."

Gabriel gently held his wife in his arms as they sat together for a long time.
