Mission 69: Tienn's Fall from Grace
Location: Watchman Station
Timeline: 1800Hrs - April 30th, 2392
It was snowing at the Lodge that Orthos had checked into, bringing Daisy with him on something of an impromptu vacation for a few days, he wanted to get away from the Starbase and work and responsibility so he had asked his sibling to look after Edward for a few days.
Jenn McKnight had the time and the space available to look after Edward and his rather specific needs so now Orthos was seated before a massive open brazier, placed at the center of the room with two dozen tables surrounding it, the smoke from the fire pit was directed upwards and it exited the building in an open chimney.
Orthos regarded his wife who was much younger than he himself was. "Hey, Daisy... You find everything alright?" he inquired of her. "I was thinking of the beach but then I decided on something else.." he spread his hands as if indicating their surroundings. "I know you wanted something different than modeling your body to everyone while wearing a bikini or a one-piece."
Daisy took off her gloves and warmed her hands by the fire. "I'm okay. Coming here was a wonderful idea. I think we can spend some quality time in front of the fire with maybe a few good choices of drink."
"I wasn't sure what you wanted and you did say to surprise you." Orthos regarded her with a gentle smile. "So... sit here and enjoy the ambiance for a while or go to the restaurant to eat dinner?" he inquired. "We also need to discuss names.."
"This is a pleasant surprise," Daisy replied. "I would like to get some food and then enjoy a fire." as she smiled at her husband.
"Okay... So the restaurant it is then." Orthos responded with a smile before he rose to his feet and he offered her his hand, clearly to assist her to her feet.
"Restaurant sounds like it may have potential. Does it have a theme? Chinese, American Barbecue, Andorian Oceana?." Daisy inquired of him.
"They do a mixed theme... Something new every night and tonight it's Andorian Continental." Orthos explained. "Apparently the Andorian's took something from the French and made it all their own.."
"Hmm, seems interesting. I think it is worth a try. When do you want to go?" Daisy asked, warming her hands by the fire.
"Whenever you're hungry," Orthos responded as he regarded her. "We do need to discuss names..." he then gave her a pointed look. "For our daughter," he added as a reminder.
"Let's go now. I wouldn't mind a light meal and a drink or three," she told him.
Orthos stood up. "Alright.". A few minutes later they went into the nearby restaurant. The colors were gentle shades of blue from navy blue on the floor to a light shade of blue across the ceiling. "Mmm... Very Andorian," Orthos commented.
A waitress came over. "Seating for two?"
Orthos nodded. "Yes."
"Okay... Right this way." and with that, the young woman led Orthos and Daisy to an isolated table in the corner.
"Looks wonderful," Daisy told Orthos. "I can't wait to see what they serve."
The waitress handed them a menu each. "Can I get you guys something to drink?" she inquired.
Orthos nodded to Daisy. "Mmmm.." he was clearly going to let Daisy handle this one.
"Perhaps some Andorian mead?" Daisy asked Orthos. "Yes," Daisy turned to the waitress "Two Andorian ales please."
Orthos smiled. "Thank you."
"Right away." and with that, the young woman turned and walked away.
"Hope you don't mind Andorian mead. I have no idea what it tastes like." Daisy told Orthos.
"I'm as curious as you are," Orthos responded. "Besides... I don't mind." he regarded her. "So... Names?"
"You're leaving that up to me?" Daisy asked. "you've seen the names in my family. Do you really want to do that?"
Orthos regarded her, a soft smile on his face. "Daisy. I am sure you can do better than your mother... What about Miranda... or Heather. Coral or Elizabeth." he commented. "April is a good name. Brianna.. " he paused. "Vanessa."
"No, my parents did have odd taste in names," Daisy told Orthos. "Maybe something different like Phoebe, Mikayla, or Tamara? Maybe give her two names like Emily Rose?"
Orthos smiled. "All good choices.. " he responded. "What about Stephanie or Alison?" he inquired. "or what about Meghan?"
"Those are all nice names but I would like to give her a name that is a little more..." Daisy looked for the right words "Not typical?"
Orthos smiled as their drinks arrived. "Thank you dear." as the waitress placed a bottle before Daisy and Orthos with two glasses, she then poured the two a glass each. "Would you guys like a moment longer?"
"Mmm. Yes please?" Orthos responded.
The waitress smiled. "Of course." and with that, she moved off. Orthos regarded the menu. "Let's select dinner quick.." he then began leafing through the menu. "Andorian mixed with French food. It's different."
"Yes, the pan cooked Andorian swan with Herbes de Provence sounds tasty." She replied.
Orthos raised an eyebrow. "That sounds good," he responded evenly as he regarded his own menu. "Mmm... Chicken Pie with Andorian tubers," he commented with a smile. "Tubers. The Andorian equivalent of potatoes.." he added.
"I know what tubers are." Daisy smiled at Orthos. "My mother still calls Earth potatoes that to this day. It is one of the few things that frustrate my father."
"Well. that's between those two.." Orthos paused. "Besides I am old enough to be your father." the part Vulcan sighed softly. "So... Names... Let's see. What about Calista?" he paused. "or Odessa?"
"Maybe Odessa," Daisy replied. "I'm not sure yet."
"Odessa Rohr-McKnight," Orthos responded with a smile. "We can add to it if you wish."
"Alright, Odessa is on the short list." Daisy smiled.
"Sounds good... What else do you prefer?" Orthos regarded with a knowing grin. "Esmae-Rose?." he asked her. "Or how about Ava-Mae or Mae-Ione"? he inquired. "Vanessa was highly picky," he added, a gentle grin on his face. "What about something alien?. Like Syldra or Siaxx?"
he smiled. "America is apparently a girls name."
"T'Sara is a pretty name," Daisy told Orthos with a slight grin.
"My mother's name," Orthos responded, a gentle smile playing at his lips. "It's a good name. So T'Sara Rohr-McKnight then?" he inquired. "I think my mother would be flattered."
"She should be." Daisy gave Orthos a mischievous grin.
"So.. T'Sara is the name you want then?" Orthos inquired.
"I do. I think it's the only name we'll agree on." Daisy replied. "Unless you don't like the name?"
Orthos chuckled softly. "I wasn't aware you were a telepath." he smiled. "T'Sara is a good name and I like it."
"Good, T'Sara it is." Daisy concurred.
"Excellent. I'll call mom later and let her know you settled on a name. She will lose her bet by the way." Orthos paused. "She bet me and every single relative that you'd name your daughter Faith or Hope. Every McKnight who is blood to me took that bet for ten bars each. I bet that Daisy would give her child a good name she could live with. So.. I think I win.. heh heh heh." Orthos chuckled softly. "Mom then bet me another twenty bars that you'd give it a whimsical name so I win a second time. hee hee hee." Orthos's chuckle quickly deepened. "Nice work mom, making me richer than ever."
"You bet on your child's name?" Daisy asked. "At least we know where the money will go. To T'Sara's college fund."
"Yep." Orthos gently took his wife's hand in his own. "Assuming she wants to go off to college, she might join the marines like her mom or enlist like her dad. Who knows. But I'll be happy with whatever she decides."
"I'd rather not have her anywhere near Star Fleet," Daisy told Orthos.
"Let her decide that choice when the time comes." Orthos responded. "Same with Edward. Let them decide." he smiled.
"I can advise her on other career choices," Daisy told Orthos. "Edward, I'd imagine he is Academy bound."
Orthos regarded his young wife. "We shall see."
"If Edward wants to join Star Fleet that's okay. We need to encourage T'Sara not too," she stated.
"Why?" Orthos inquired. "I don't understand your logic. Our daughter isn't even born yet and you're worried about events that may or may not happen," he responded.
"T'Sara is a girl." She told him as if it wasn't already obvious.
"That's just outdated. Daisy, come on now. That's an outdated and incredibly sexist attitude. I won't hold my daughter back just because she's female." he regarded her. "I've never held any of my other children back and they all went onto have very successful careers with families. Why should T'Sara be any different?"
"I have no intention of holding her back!." Daisy reacted a little bit angry. "Star Fleet is dangerous. Star Fleet is a small bit of the Federation. She can find lots of promising and safe careers."
"So could Edward," Orthos responded. "I highly doubt I'll be in Starfleet at that time and I suspect you might be in the marines but Daisy. Mind a word of advice. Let her decide when the time comes. Until then. let it be."
"I'm not worried about Edward. He seems to have some sort of charm about him. Besides, he is a boy." Daisy told Orthos.
Orthos raised an eyebrow but he said nothing, he lifted his glass and drained it of the water contained within. "You're right," he said finally.
"Good" Daisy smiled. "Shall we get dessert?"
"Yes. let's do that." Orthos responded with a smile.
"The chocolate mousse sounds divine," Daisy stated.
"I'll settle for the cheesecake." Orthos chuckled softly.
