Exit, Stage Left

Posted on Sat Mar 7th, 2020 @ 2:12am by Fleet Captain Racheal Yamaguchi & Fleet Captain Torilla Yamaguchi & Saki Yamaguchi-Cullen

Mission: Mission 72: T'Would Ring the Bells of Heaven
Location: Various Locations - Roanoke Battlegroup
Timeline: 1200Hrs - March 22nd, 2392

It was humor hour in Roanoke's engine room and once again. Rachael Yamaguchi didn't get the humor as she pointedly ignored all of the laughter, she tapped the display before her with her right hand before she checked the PADD in her left hand. "Mmm... Okay then..." she said more to herself then to anyone else. "Sensor array number four is now working again," she added.

The clock struck twelve which meant that Rachael was finished for the day, to her taking the afternoon off felt like she was violating her work ethic but she had told Saki that the three of them were heading to the beach this afternoon and Rachael meant what she had said.

Rachael turned and went over to Ra'Vak. "Chief. The number four sensor array is working again and... This is for you." she handed him a PADD with her transfer request to go into Starfleet Piloting. "My reason is simple... I'm not happy... The work doesn't challenge me and ... I am not adjusting either." she indicated to the congregation that was presently praying to the warp core. "Its not for everyone and... Not for me either."

Ra'Vak turned to face Rachael and looked at the PAD. "Wasn't the whole reason you came here in the first place was because you were having problems with the other pilots."

"They were a part.. Not a big part... But the main issue is Saki." Rachael responded with a sigh. "Now my plan broke and I'm stuck grasping at straws.." she paused. "This will be my last... If this doesn't work... I'm gone from Starfleet."

Ra'Vak took the padd and signed off on it, then gave it back. "Well it looks like I wouldn't be able to persuade you out of it anyway."

"I'm sorry Ra'Vak.." Rachael responded quietly. "But the engine room is a little too strange for me... Which is my issue that I need to work on."

Ra'Vak didn't say anything further on the subject.

Rachael realized that she had done what she wanted to do, after dropping off her request, she turned and went out the door with a deep but soft sigh on her lips. She turned left before heading for the turbolift as her next destination was the transporter room, she wanted to get off this ship, it was something about this ship that had caused various issues for all the women in this family at one time or another, first it was mom and then Elizabeth and then mom and Elizabeth together and then Rachael herself, then mom again and then all three of them.

Now Rachael was the one who faced disaster as she had had previous issues with the personnel in fighter corps, the system itself wasn't her issue but the mistake Rachael made was bailing on her career in fighter corps and not simply requesting reassignment to another carrier. 'Well all of that is fixable.' Rachael thought to herself as she entered the turbolift and went to her destination which was just outside transporter room three.

"One to beam over to the Courageous Chief."

"Sounds good." the young man responded as he mentally began giving Rachael Yamaguchi and her figure the once over.

"Energize please." Rachael requested.

Moments later Rachael appeared in another transporter room much like the one she had just left except it was better maintained and better lit.
Rachael for her part knew that it was only really a matter of time before Roanoke was taken out and scrapped, the old girl certainly wasn't worth repairing back to state of the art at this point but she was also an experimental test ship which was why she was still in service.

Rachael's opinion about Zara Tane wasn't worth mentioning as she tried not to think about the other woman who had nearly gotten her daughter killed through Tane's own stupidity.

The dor opened at Rachael's approach as she found herself face to face with the woman who knew her intimately well, considering they had more then just DNA in common. "Hey sweetie."

"Hey mom." Rachael responded. "Whats new?"

"Saki has been in bed most of the morning. She said she's not feeling well."

Rachael raised an eyebrow, as the tired look on her face gave way for one of concern. "Is she alright?"

"I think she was just feeling down... She misses Sarah. Daniel and the cats." Torilla explained.

"Ahh." Rachael responded. "Well she has a lot to be upset about..." Rachael answered. "Let me see if I can lift her spirits.." Rachael then walked down the hallway, her mother beside her.

"So.. I assume you dropped your request?" Torilla inquired.

"I did... I made a mistake."

"The fact that you admitted that so easily is the fact of why I'm not yelling at you about it." Yamaguchi regarded her daughter. "Rachael, you can't go making mistakes like that...It'll really come back to haunt you down the road..." Torilla explained. "You'll end up never getting promoted .

"I know.." Rachael responded, partly to end the argument before it began and also because she wanted her mother to know that Rachael herself understood that a mistake can be learned from.

Tortilla regarded Rachael with a soft look, she didn't want to be yelling at her daughter for her mistake but those mistakes were Rachael's to make and also they were Rachael's responsibility. "On a side note. The flight exercise this morning was interesting however."

"Oh... I actually missed it." Rachael paused. "I can still delete this request... right?"

"You have until you turn that into the personnel department in the morning to back out... but you'll owe Ra'Vak a major apology for pulling his leg like this... Decide most carefully what you want to do Rachael... You can't decide that you don't then do and then don't again... You need to be absolutely sure of your mind... Because the dual-minded are unstable." Yamaguchi was quick in pointing out to Rachael that she was now getting to levels of stupid that neither Torilla herself or Jake ever did with their careers. "I mean it this time Rachael.. You won't get away with it."

"I know but....Upon reflection, I never gave Roanoke's engineering department a fair chance..."

"Thats because shes an old ship and not a good one... Why not simply request reassignment to another ship but remain in Engineering.. I mean you like the work."

"I do... But... I dunno.. the activities are just a little too out there at times."

"You need to work on your sense of humor Rachael... Trust me. You stopped being able to appreciate a good laugh so I am going to talk you out of this... Remain with Roanoke and her staff for another year and we can revisit this chat then... Besides... you need stability and Ra'Vak takes good care of his people." with that Torilla gently took the PADD that Rachael was holding from her.

Torilla then tapped the display once before she handed it back to Rachael. The smaller female tapped the 'delete' key once and that was the end of that.

A few minutes later, the two women reached their destination as Saki Yamaguchi was seated in the living room wearing a pair of jean shorts and a tank top. One of the two dogs was curled up on the sofa, next to her and the second was lying at her feet. When Torilla entered, the two dogs greeted her as they normally did, with love and affection as dogs were wont to do.

Saki regarded her mother and sure enough, she looked unwell. "Hey mom." the child greeted her mother. "Grandma Torilla." she then greeted her grandmother in turn before she hopped off the sofa but rather then give her mother a hug, she turned and dashed into the nearby bathroom when a few moments later, the sounds of someone throwing up could be heard.

Rachael paused. "Mmm... I guess today got canceled?" she inquired with a soft sigh. "Normally Saki's the one who loves these field trips but today I was looking forward to it." Rachael then sat down on the sofa where Saki had been sitting.

The child came back out a moment later as she sighed. "I'm Sorry mom... I think I ate something."

"Yes.. chocolate." Torilla supplied the answer.

"I wanted to see what dark chocolate was like... I guess I got my answer." Saki lamented softly.

"How much did you eat...?" Rachael was mystified.

"Two bars... One with breakfast and one an hour later..." Saki explained evenly.

Rachael regarded her daughter as she sat down next to her on the sofa. "You've never been a great fan of sugar."

"No." Saki agreed. "Its... too sweet for me." she picked up the orange that had been sitting on the coffee table before the three women as Torilla slipped her lithe form into the single-seat across from mother and child.

Saki meanwhile began to peel the orange with practiced hands as Rachael watched her daughter. "You gonna be okay Saki?"

"I just feel a bit queasy. I am not missing this trip to the beach.." the child protested. Rachael for her part smiled as she knew that Skai had been looking forward to it for the last few days. "You didn't want her going to sickbay?"

"Some things in life are meant to be experienced from beginning to end, I didn't baby her the as I didn't baby you or your siblings," Torilla explained. "I knew it wasn't anything serious. If it was then I'd have dealt with it."

Rachael knew all of this to be true as the younger of the two women let out a soft sigh. "So... Saki... You still up to going later?"

"Yes mom," Saki responded. "I love the beach..."

"We'll take Grey Wind and Nymeria too." Rachael responded as Grey Wind gently placed his head on Saki's lap, the small child gently ran her fingers over the dog's massive head and behind his ears with the grace of a ballet dancer. "Its okay big guy... I'm not going anywhere without you... For now anyway." Saki responded, correcting herself as she spoke, these two dogs were not hers as they were her grandmother's dogs.

The dog simply sniffed at her but otherwise didn't react.

Rachael regarded Saki as she broke off a piece of Saki's orange and popped it into her mouth. "Alright we'll see how you feel in two hours... If your system has settled by then, we'll go but if not then we'll simply find something to do here..."

"Yes, mom." Saki sounded rather disappointed.

"When you're sick. your sick Saki... No need to force the issue and we can always go another time, the holodeck isn't going anywhere and neither am I."

"Okay mom." she paused. "If... you guys are okay with it. I think I'll go back to bed." and with that Saki got up and she went into the guest room that had become her bedroom, Grey Wind, however, hopped up to his feet and followed her into the bedroom.

Torilla smiled. "I think Grey Wind likes her more then he likes me... Which is something I've been encouraging... I get the impression that Saki is more of a dog person than a cat person."

"Saki does tend to get a lot of exercise," Rachael responded.

"Saki also tends to want to be prepared.. She's like that... how does that old nickname go?"

"The North American Girl scout. Always prepared, always ready at any time." Rachael explained. "She got that from me and Siaxx.," Rachael explained to her mother. She smiled as she decided to finish off her daughter's orange. Torilla liberated a piece for herself.

Meanwhile Saki climbed back into bed and closed her eyes, the massive dog climbed onto the bed with her, rather then keep him at arms length as Torilla did, the small child simply went back to her roots, as she curled up with the dog while she fell asleep.

Grey Wind didn't seem to mind terribly as Saki slept on, blissfully unaware of what was happening in the next room.
