Mission 98: Building Our New Home
Location: Various Locations - Starbase Vanguard
Timeline: 0930Hrs - June 28th, 2393
Commander Tienn Kerris smiled at the young man who was presently serving as Fleet Captain Torilla Yamaguchi's yeoman. "Hello. We're here to see Captain Yamaguchi, she called for us to report to her at this time," she explained why she was standing before him.
"Okay, let me check, what's your name ma'am?" he inquired of her.
"Tienn Kerris," she answered with the appropriate information.
"Okay, the appointment Commander." he regarded her with an apologetic look. "Was for you alone," he explained to the Bajoran female.
"I see," Tienn answered. "Very well, I will go and see the Captain alone," she responded, as she did not wish a confrontation and she would not get to see the Captain if she was getting in arguments, especially with yeoman over minor details. She didn't know what the Captain wanted her for and she did not wish to make assumptions. "Suvek, would you mind waiting here?"
"Of course." the Vulcan male answered in a flat, even tone of voice.
The yeoman knew that he was the cause of the issue before the three of them. "I apologize, Commander. But I do not know what the Captain wanted you for, she did not tell me."
"No, I understand. I confess I am curious as to why she is requesting my presence... But then I won't find out sitting here standing around now, will I?"
"No, you can go on in Commander." the yeoman commented before Tienn turned and went into the office. Fleet Captain Torilla Yamaguchi was sitting on her sofa with two PADD's in hand. "Ahh Commander. I apologize for the dramatic theatrics but I wanted to grab you before someone else did," she commented. "Have a seat, any seat and I will explain." as she indicated the sofa that Yamaguchi herself was presently sitting on.
Tienn raised an eyebrow as she sat down on the sofa next to Yamaguchi. She had heard that Yamaguchi was laid back and easygoing, she also didn't care much for rules or regulations. "Greetings Captain," she commented evenly. The two women spoke flawless English, despite neither of them being human. "What can I do for you?" the handsome Bajoran female inquired.
"Well. I'm looking for a capable first officer for my next command, you were at the top of my list." Yamaguchi explained.
"Well, that's good to know Captain," Tienn answered.
"It was a very short list, you made the short list of ten names, out of forty," Yamaguchi answered with a smile. "I had heard of you from your sibling. Iteela, she said how you were unhappy these days in security, for various reasons which she did share at length." Yamaguchi then paused. "It seemed that I could help by offering you something different." as she regarded the Bajoran woman sitting before her. "I would like to offer you the Executive officers posting on the USS Grey Wolf."
Tienn instantly smiled, she knew that the Grey Wolf was a Champion class heavy carrier and this meant plenty of chances to prove herself and show her worth. "I accept." she didn't even hesitate.
"Well. That was fast." Yamaguchi quipped, her sense of humor showcasing itself. "I had been led to believe that you would not be open to many assignments due to your family," Yamaguchi answered with a smile. Yamaguchi then produced the first PADD which she then handed to the tall Bajoran female next to her. "That's my senior staff thus far. I'm lacking in several positions, most notably a Chief of the Boat."
"My husband could serve as your Chief of the Boat." Tienn supplied the information quickly. "I'd like to offer it to him."
"I will leave that matter with you." Yamaguichi smiled, she could not have been more pleased with this turn of events. "I still need a Chief Medical Officer but I was going to ask Commander Shireen Stark, she handled most of my medical care while I was with the Akurians. I may ask Chief Doran to join me as well as my Chief nurse but that's Shireen's choice to make." Yamaguchi explained. "Grey Wolf will be along in a month to pick us up, then we're off to shake her down or onto our first assignment," Yamaguchi added.
"Sounds good. I'll ask my husband to come along, I believe he will say yes." Tienn answered, a grin on her face. "This is quite an interesting roster and now if Doctor Stark and Doran both come along then that leaves..." she paused as she regarded the list. "Chief Counselor and the CAG."
"The CAG is easy, I'll ask Naota to come along, god knows he would easily." Yamaguchi paused. "But it might cause a conflict of interest as he wears my last name as his own. Unal I mean, not Yamaguchi."
"I was wondering," Tienn admitted. "Will it be a concern?"
"No. I have always trusted Naota and his skills to do whatever work is assigned to him." Yamaguchi answered. "Now... As for Chief Counselor." she paused. "I could ask Anandra Delair." she paused. "Unless you know of anyone who's more readily available for either posting," Yamaguchi added.
"I'll ask around but I doubt anyone will be available," Tienn commented with a soft sigh. "Why not ask around the Starbase?"
"Because most of my slots are filled and I don't want to cause problems, in case they change their minds later, only to find the position was filled with someone else," Yamaguchi responded with a nod.
Tienn nodded her head, she could understand where the other woman was coming from, considering had she said no and then changed her mind later on the subject, a good opportunity to advance would have slipped past her. "Well that does makes sense," she admitted.
"Alright. Well, I should contact Naota and Anan, maybe they will both say yes, or maybe not." Yamaguchi responded. "I'll let you recruit your husband and we can come back and trade notes."
"Sounds to me Captain, so I have a month to wrap up my affairs and get ready for our assignment to come and collect us then.?" Tienn answered.
"You do. I suspect command will want us out in the field soonish. You have until August first as humans reckon time to sort out your affairs and all that wonderful stuff." Yamaguchi commented. "Questions?"
"None at present but I suspect I will think of a few later on." Tienn supplied evenly.
"That sounds good, if you do come up with any, contact me and I'll try to answer them for you as best as I can," Yamaguchi answered. "Alright, go see your husband and inform him of what's going on. If I need a new Chief of the Boat because your husband didn't want it, let me know okay.?"
"Willdo." Tienn then rose to her feet. "The sofa is comfortable. I might replicate one for myself."
"Get a whirlpool hot tub for your quarters as well, it'll do wonders for your stress levels," Yamaguchi added, she clearly sounded like she knew what she was talking about. "I prefer a certain familiarity with my senior staff, that won't be an issue for you. Will it?"
"I don't expect problems, Nerra and Iteela both have told me about you and what they couldn't tell me, Ezas did," Tienn answered. "All of my siblings know you or know of you. Neban Hular has spoken of you, at length over dinner before as well, he said you were one of the finest skippers he'd ever known. High praise indeed, especially coming from him."
Yamaguchi had no idea that Neban thought of her like that, she had simply assumed that he respected her as a fellow skipper but she had no idea he considered her on the same level as Chris Pike or James Kirk, or Spock or either Hikaru or Demora Sulu. "Really... I didn't see that one coming." Yamaguchi's surprise was clearly evident.
"Neban doesn't tell much, now does he?" Tienn answered.
"No. But then I don't ask him either." Yamaguchi paused. "Anyway. I'd best not keep you too much longer Kerris. I need to get on with contacting my other people and you need to recruit your husband."
Tienn smiled. "Willdo." and with that, she turned and departed Yamaguchi's office, a wide smile on her lips.
