Mission: Mission 33: Losing the Peace
Location: Various Locations - USS Pinto
Timeline: 1300Hrs - May 27th, 2391

The transporter pad activated and after the flash two men stood on the platform. One was the Pinto's new XO, Ivan Chung. The other was Petty Officer 3rd Class Leon Tanner. Tanner had his hands bound together. As the beam over ended, Tanner took a long look around the transporter room. Chung gave Tanner a sharp push and the petty officer almost tumbled over.

"Hey, watch it!" Tanner shouted at Chung.

"Don't give me any lip Tanner." Chung coolly shot back. "If it was up to me, you would be rotting in the Star Base brig."

Tanner mumbled something under his breath. "What was that?" Chung asked in a loud voice. Tanner remained quiet. "Thought so." Chung added.

The two men headed to the Captain's ready room. Chung chimed the door and they entered. "Lieutenant Chung reporting Captain." He told her. "I brought Petty Officer Tanner."

Lieutenant Commander Felicity Harp got up from her desk to greet Chung. "Hello Lieutenant. I'll have a meeting with you at a more convenient time." She told Chung. "Now with you Mister Tanner. According to the report..." Harp held up a PADD. "You were in a fistfight with three civilian merchants."

"Ya, and I floored all three of them." Tanner boasted.

Chung grabbed Tanner by the shoulder. "Hey stupid, your here to get punished."

"It was self defense!" Tanner shouted back.

"Shut your fat mouth!" Harp snapped at Tanner. "Lieutenant Chung is right. Your in my ready room because you did something stupid." Harp told him.

"Now, this is not the best way to start out a tour. I'm going to have you limited your quarters when not on duty. I'm also going to assign you to some rather unpleasant assignments. Your dismissed."

"Captain, wouldn't a reduction in rank be in order?" Chung asked.

"It would be but I really don't have the time." Harp explained. "Consider yourself lucky Tanner."

Chung looked crestfallen as the two men left the ready room. Back in the passageway Chung removed Tanner's restraints.

"That Captains a pushover." Tanner told Chung. Chung grabbed Tanner's arm and put him in an arm lock. Chung then pressed Tanner's head to the wall.

"Alright, listen up fathead." Chung chided Tanner. "I don't like you and if I had things my way I would have thrown your sorry ass off this ship. You fuck up one more time and I'm going to make you my own personnel project. Understand?"

"I'm gonna kick your ass when you let me go!" Tanner shouted.

Chung tighten his grip, causing Tanner to wince. "Go ahead and do that tough guy." Chung responded, obviously not intimidated. "You'll get twenty years on a penal colony for assaulting an officer."

Chung released Tanner. Tanner gave Chung an ugly look but did nothing. The two turned to see the Caitian Chief of the Boat.

"He is all yours Chief." Chung replied.

Khatarr slowly blinked his eyes as he regarded the two beings before him. "Thank you El Tee.." he did not move a muscle other then his face so one could be forgiven for thinking he was a statue. "I will be brief Mr Tanner... why did you feel the need to get into a fistfight anyway?" he inquired.

"They gave me lip." Tanner replied. "I don't take shit from nobody."

"You will learn to take shit from me.." Khatarr responded quietly. "Or what the Exec will do to you.... will be nothing compared to what I do to you." as a soft smile appeared on the Caitian's face before he unsheathed his four inch long claws.

Tanner mumbled something inaudible under his breath. He was angry but clearly didn't want to fight the Caitian.

"Spit it out.." Khatarr growled. "Please... by all means..."

"I didn't say nothing." Tanner shot back, almost in fear.

"Now you insult me... " Khatarr growled darkly at the human. "in any case... I need to meet the Captain... you stay right here... and do not move.... or I will come for you... and I will hunt you down and I will make you scream..."

Tanner remained rigid as he mulled Khatarr's threat. He let out a whimper.

The two ensigns had just been dropped off by shuttle from Star Fleet Academy. They found their way to the Captain's ready room and were given permission to enter.

Harp looked up at her two new Ensigns. "So, Ensign Rinloit and Ensign Tanj, you to are fresh from the Academy?" Harp asked.

"Yes Captain and I'm eager to get to work." Rinloit told Harp, who smiled back.

"Yes Captain." Kiatara answered Harp. "My name is Kiatara. Tanj is the name of my House and I would not use it as the name I commonly use.

"Okay, so noted Ensign." Harp replied. "Now, unless you two have any questions, your dismissed until your shifts start tomorrow." The two ensigns shook there heads and left.

"That Ensign Rinloit will make a fine officer." Felicity told herself.

"I wouldn't trust her." A voice came from nowhere.

Instinctively Felicity turned towards the source of the noise. She gasped as she saw the macabre image of Francesca Meadows. Meadows body was horribly burned. Her uniform was fused to her body. Her teeth were visible under the burnt flesh and made a grotesque smile. Her eyes were solid white opaque.

"Sorry, didn't mean to startle you." Meadows apologized to Harp. Meadows looked around Harp's ready room. "You have a nice ship. Better than that rust bucket Ulm."

Felicity stared at the deck to avoid looking at Meadows. "Can't you appear in a more pleasant image?" Harp asked Meadows.

"That's not up yo me Lissy." Meadows replied. "I exist in your mind."

"Yes, I know." Felicity said. "The most powerful visual imprint I have of you was after we opened the bulkhead and found your corpses."

"Plasma fires burn just about everything." Meadows told Harp. "The fire nearly melted the bulkhead shut."

Felicity continued to stare at the floor. "It was fused shut. We found eight of your bodies on the other side. You were trying to get out but the bulkhead was locked. I'm sorry I shut you in there. It's my fault you and the others are dead." Felicity told her, tears streaming down her face.

"You had to make a quick decision and you did." Meadows told her. "You probably saved the ship. Don't blame yourself. If any one is to blame it is Star Fleet Command. The Ulm was way past its prime. It should have been rotting in a boneyard, not out on active duty."

The doorbell beeped at her, interupting her reverie, on the outside were two new officers, one of them was Lieutenant Stephen Franklin and the second was a caitian officer named Khatarr.

Felicity was a little startled by the door. She regained her composure. "Come in please." She responded.

the door opened and in walked a dark skinned Human male and a large Caitian male. "Mornin' Captain." the dark skinned human addressed her. "I'm Lieutenant Stephen Franklin, your new Chief Medical Officer.."

"Senior Chief Khatarr.... your Chief of the Boat.." the Caitian introduced himseelf before he placed his hands together, one clenched fist against an open palm, also his choice of headwear was unusual, he wore the uniform normally but he was wearing a bowler hat but it was much wider then normal.

"Hello there Lieutenant." Harp regarded the medical officer. "Chief." She turned her attention to the Caitian and gave a slight nod in return.

"Do you have orders for me yet?" the Doctor inquired as the CHief simply bowed to her but otherwise waited his turn and said nothing.

"Other than to make sure sickbay is ready, no I do not." Harp answered. "Doctor, another thing. You are going to be the Second Officer as you are the only other full grade Lieutenant on board." she told him.

"I understand sir." Franklin responded. "With your permission. I'd like to go get to know my sickbay and learn the layout of this ship."

"Yes, thank you Doctor." Felicity told him.

Franklin turned and marched out the door, leaving Harp with Khatarr. "To all things, there is a time and a place no?" he inquired, clearly more at ease.

"Yes, interesting way to put things." Felicity told Khatarr. "Is the first time you have been assigned Chief of the Boat?"

"No. This will be my second." the caitian rumbled softly as he removed his large hat.

Felicity smiled. "Well, this is my first time being the Captain. You will forgive me if I'm a little rough around the edges at first?"

"I forgive many things..." Khatarr responded. "Our dear mister Tanner is going to learn why I am to be feared.."

"Oh, I hope that fool doesn't cause any problems." Harp told Khatarr. "This ship isn't big enough for a person to act like he does."

"Oh I don't mind.. It keeps things interesting and if he steps out of line....I will deal with him.... I also want your permission to demote him one grade?"

"I'll consider it Chief." Harp told him. "Right now we need to get this ship ready to go out into space."

"I understand sir." Khatarr responded. "Do you have orders for me... other then dealing with this ego case?"

"Give Tanner some sort of nasty task then just make sure the Pinto is ready to leave port." Felicity told the Caitian.

"Consider it done.." he responded.
