Mission:
Mission 24: Open Secrets
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 0930Hrs - February 2nd, 2391
Ensign Elizabeth Yamaguchi sighed softly as she ignored the Porn on the displays around her as the com system beeped at her. It was the Captain calling about a migraine.
Elizabeth smiled as she collected her medkit and off out the door she went, she reached her destination a few minutes later as she tapped on the door-chime.
"In," Zara called from her couch. She had an ice-pack held against her temples, with stress written all over her face.
The door opened and in walked Elizabeth Yamaguchi. "The Doctor is in." she commented with a smile. "Let me have a look at your head.." she commented as she went over to Zara
"Why're you here?" Zara asked very quietly with confusion.
"I came because I wanted to thank you." Elizabeth admitted.
"What for?" Zara asked as she scratched her head.
"For looking after mom." Elizabeth sat down then she opened her medkit. "Let me see..." she said quietly. "Yeah... you have a classic headache... so I'm going to give you a light tranquilizer for it, it'll dull the pain but won't fully numb you." Yamaguchi explained as she prepared the hypo. "There are twenty shots in here, one is good for four hours... so please don't abuse the medication... as the side effects are not pretty.."
"Thanks," Zara spoke very appreciatively.
"Alright..." she rose to her feet as the com system beeped at everyone in the room as Alyssa McKinley's voice came over the com system
"Hey captain, We have an admiral Nechayev hailing us."
When Zara walked over to her desk, she paled. Very white. Why her of all people. "I'm so fucked," Tane whimpered.
Elizabeth smiled as she went over to Zara, she gently placed her hand on the other woman's shoulder. "I'll take it," she commented as she sat down. "Make sure you're out of view."
Zara put her racing headphones on and buried her head under the pillows of her couch.
Elizabeth paused as she tapped the display. "Admiral Nechayev. Ma'am... What can I do for you?"
"I'm looking for your CO, Ensign. Please put Captain Tane on the line," Nechayev demanded. Her skin was blue from a faulty sonic shower and her expression was very dower.
"Captain Tane has been relieved of duty... apparently she came down with a case of food poisoning." Elizabeth lied easily while fighting to keep a smile off of her face.
"Either you get her on the line, or I will send Shore Police to yank her into one of my interrogation rooms," the admiral barked.
Elizabeth simply sat back. "With all due respect. I think not Admiral," she responded. "Captain Tane is presently my patient... If you do to remove her from my care. I will ram my protest so far up your ass... you're gonna shit it out for a week."
Nechayev growled. "How dare you speak to me like that Ensign..."
"Look, Admiral... We can sit here and debate the morality this all day... but I frankly don't have the inclination or the time.." she sighed. "Don't make this harder for me then it already is Admiral..."
"Then hand her over."
"No." Elizabeth responded bluntly. "I don't think so... you can have her when she returns to duty.. and not before..." Elizabeth then proceeded to hang up on Nechayev before tapping her combadge. "Yamaguchi to McKinley. "Sir.. Stall em..."
Suddenly Nechayev's face came back on the face. "Your CO spread a virus in the fleet. If you keep protecting her, I will have you brought in for aiding and abetting, Ensign. Now get her on the line, or expect my tac team at your airlock in fifteen, ready to bring her into custody," Nechayev demanded.
Elizabeth growled as she looked at Nechayev. "What part of No... do you not understand Admiral... you are threatening my patient and I do not take that lightly," she growled.
Suddenly the comm system went completely out, and shortly after Alyssa saying," Sorry, the comm array has overheated, its probably going to be down for the next hour."
Elizabeth smiled. "Commander.. I owe you lunch." she responded. "But we have a Tac team coming to arrest Zara." as she waved to Tane to get her attention. "Zara... take those ear muffs off..." she said evenly.
"Hmm?" Zara said as she pulled them off and noted the air of concern.
"Nechayev is sending a tac team.. for you and probably for me as well." Elizabeth explained. "She thinks you're guilty of this porn virus..despite the fact that there is no proof." and with that she rose to her feet and went out onto the bridge. "Commander." she addressed Teval, he looked green in that his fur was coloured green. "We have a tac team coming in from Admiral Nechayev, wanting to arrest Zara.... despite the fact that there is no proof of Zara making this virus." Yamaguchi explained the situation to Teval quickly.
Teval looked straight at Elizabeth saying, "I know Zara didn't make the bug, the damn thing was on he computer core that we got and activated when we installed the core."
"Bitch still thinks I did it," Zara said with a half-frown. "We get into a shooting match, it won't bode well for either side."
Elizabeth nodded. "Yep.." she then shrugged. "This is still horseshit.."
"Tell the Wicked Witch of the West that I'll be coming to the airlock, unarmed, as her prisoner," Zara signaled the communications officer. "But you folks better think of something fancy to do once I'm in her custody. Otherwise, once I get to her ship, you'll not get me back until she's done with me."
Teval nodded, and as soon as Zara left the bridge, Teval said to Alyssa, "contact April Yamaguchi on the starbase."
Alyssa worked furiously trying to get the comms working, and after a minute she said, "Got it."
Teval looked at the viewscreen as April's face came up. He didn't even wait to say, "Hey April, we have a major problem. Admiral Nechayev thinks that Zara is responsible for the computer virus that's spreading, and I can tell you its not Zara's fault. Nechayev is sending a kill team to apprehend her."
April's eyes narrowed before she turned her head. "Chief." and with that, she let out a whistle as she gave a guy off-screen a couple of hand signals before turning back to Teval. "On What Grounds is the Admiral using a 'kill' team to apprehend your Captain?"
Teval sighed, then said," Apparently, she thinks Zara is the one that made the Virus. She didn't, the virus was on the computer core that we acquired. I know because I was at the computer core when it was installed."
"I see.." April responded. "I will deal with it," she commented evenly.
Teval nodded," Well I also have a Brikar that I can loan you."
April smiled. "No need Commander. I have my own people."
Teval nodded, then close the comm channel He then contacted Aerin and asked Aerin to follow, just in case.
Fortunately Aerin was already in a decent position to follow, as he quietly observed the team put the handcuffs on Zara. They took her off the ship and visibly paraded her around the promenade with stun cuffs behind her back, and they were not too kind in their treatment either. Being sure to keep his distance and avoiding being spotted. After following for a good five minutes a forcefield snapped in place, blocking Nechayev's team from going any further. However Aerin spotted potential trouble when several marines from the Roanoke approached the group, including the Marines gunnery sergeant.
Duval let loose one large snowball as he spotted several tactical assault guys guarding Captain Tane with them. "Whats this?!" Duval commented to the guys. "Whats with the skipper?"
"I'm being arrested," Zara answered as she was roughly shielded and led down a different route to the Admiral's ship. "Don't engage them, Master Gunny."
"Arrested?" Duval inquired. "For what... and where are they taking you." he inquired as a half dozen snowballs pelted the tac guys as one of the nearby civilians yelled. "get lost ya goons!"
Duval smiled but otherwise didn't react before gathering together snow before hurling it at one of the civvies, before another civilian nailed one of the tactical guys in the face, this caused him to slip and fall over.
"I think it's for evading the po-pos," Zara shrugged and grunted a bit when she got pushed harshly in the shoulder blades.
Suddenly a few dozen snowballs pelted the tac guys. "That's for smacking a lady, asshole" a voice boomed.
Duval took aim and fired a snowball, which crashed into one of the tac guys. "Hey... Watch it!" came the expected response.
Duval indicated himself as a smile came across his face. "You smacked a lady... expect no mercy for it."
Just then a dozen snowballs crashed into the tac guys and Zara. They in turn pressed Zara harsher, is if they were in dire need to get out of the melee. And as each snowball hit Zara, she became colder and colder.
"Not... helping... Duval," Zara panted as she struggled to keep the heavy pace of her captors.
Duval meanwhile was gathering snow as one of the troopers tried shoving Zara forward. "Move it." right before he got nailed in the head with a snowball. "Alright.. next one who hits me is gonna get it."
Duval sneered. "Please.. twelve of you... such nice tidy uniforms.." he replied as the turbolift doors opened and out stepped a female figure. April Yamaguchi looked around as a dozen security guards approached from the rear while another dozen guards approached. "Stand Down Lieutenant."
"I have my orders Admiral."
"Not anymore... She's a four star Admiral... I'm a five star... So, you will release your prisoner to me.. now... Not to mention you have weapons on my promenade... and you also have uttered threats.."
"Regardless Admiral I still-"
"Mr Svenson. Arrest these men... If they resist, shoot them."
The Chief nodded as he stepped forward as he drew his sidearm. "Turn 'em over." he commented.
The Lt Commander wanted to resist but he turned over his rifle as he handed Zara over to April.
"Take her cuff's off..." April growled angrily. "Do not make me ask you again...." the taller woman was getting angrier by the moment as the man tapped a key on the PADD in his hand, the cuff's let go with a click.
"Mr Svenson, strip these guys of all of their gear and their clothing, leave them with their duty uniform and nothing else.."
"Consider it done sir."
"You wouldn't dare.."
"Lt Commander. I got your asses for various charges." April growled. "Get these pieces of shit out of my fucking sight!"
"Lets go!" and with that the two dozen guards escorted the tac team out the door and off of the promenade as April slipped off her jacket before draping it over Zara's frame. "I can handle this level of cold... you can't." she responded. "come on... lets go get you warmed up."
"I need a drink," Zara spoke as she tried to create friction heat from rubbing the sleeves. Then she rubbed her head. It hurt a lot now. "...I gotta stop borrowing shit from folks that that insufferable woman."
"I'd trade a year of leave time to have a crew as loyal to me as you're crew as loyal to you." April spoke frankly as she led the smaller woman into the nearby bar. "Master Sargent Duval?" she looked at Zara. "Where have you been hiding him?"
Duval came over, a soft grin on his face. "April" and with that she leapt into his arms, as he gave her a big hug. "Its good to see you again." April smiled.
"And you April... I hate to run... but I got a snowball fight to win.."
"Crush em." April turned back to Zara. "Come on.."
"I don't know why they're so loyal," Zara confessed with confusion. "My hooch burned in the ventilation system a while back. Pissed off most of them."
April shrugged. "Why worry about it.." she commented as the two entered the bar. "Barkeep. two bowls of soup.."
"Do you really think it's wise for me to wear an admiral's jacket after barely escaping that woman's clutches?" Zara asked with a nervous laugh. "Impersonating an Admiral is not a great charge to deflect either."
April smiled. "Relax.... if I have my way... you'll be wearing one of those soon enough." she commented as she sat down at the bar.
"Not without combat pay," Zara protested between tiny shivers.
The bartender approached April and her small friend. "Admiral, Captain... What can I get ya?" he inquired.
"Some beef and vegetable stew in two large bowls... along with..?" she looked at Zara to fill in the rest.
"Your hardest dark import in two pint-sized glasses," Zara finished.
"Coming up." the barkeep answered answered.
April regarded Zara. "So... any ideas as to what your next mission will be?"
"No," Zara admitted darkly. "But I know where to start looking... But I'll need you to dig some things up for me."
April raised an eyebrow as she watched their drinks and food arrive. "Indeed?" April raised an eyebrow. "Do enlighten me?"
"I want to see the colony aid requests that have been unanswered," Zara informed with a frown. "Phoenix makes a good point in saying the Federation ignores the planets not governed by a major Federation power... I want to see just how bad, or badly fabricated her claim is."
April slowly nodded. "Consider it done.."
"Now that I have a good crew, I want to keep them. And we need a purpose other than Starfleet's official garbage scow," Zara spoke more to herself.
Yamaguchi regarded Zara with her dark blue eyes. "That... can be arranged." she said quietly as she drank a mouthful of her soup.
Zara sipped on her sip slowly, so as not to scold herself. "I appreciate, Admiral."
"April.... my friends call me by name.... You get along well with Jake.." April Yamaguchi responded.
"Torilla makes it easy to get along with your clan," Zara shrugged aside. "Mostly everyone... Elizabeth still makes me nervous though."
"Yes I heard about my Niece's lack of control.." April heard. "She thought she was protecting her mother."
"I miss bein' an engineer," Zara sighed as she spotted a few of them a few tables away from her. "Got so many projects I can never finish, all because brass don' like my attitude in an engine room."
April nodded her head as she sipped her drink. "I miss being a tactical officer.... projects? what like?"
"I'm working on putting a cloak on the fighters," Zara spoke with shrug. "I don't get much time to fiddle with my designs though."
April raised an eyebrow as she regarded Zara. "Mmmm.... tell me more.."
"The intent is to give our bombers the ability to completely hit and fade effectively with cloaking technology," Zara explained more intently.
April raised an eyebrow. "Mmm... That's a more interesting idea then the idiots in R&D can come up with..." she responded. "But.... if you want more time and resources to come up with the design process.... let me know.."
"I've got the design, just not the time to do anything," Zara frowned. "I'm either hiding from my crazy, pissed-off Bolian doctor and her cohorts, or trying to evade the pissed off brass."
"From now on.... if anyone from outside IFO contacts you, send them to me.." April commented evenly. "You answer to IFO only." she explained. "Jake is your new boss.."
