Shit Hits the Fan - Part Two
Posted on Thu Feb 27th, 2020 @ 10:43am by Admiral Lil'yanna Olmos & Department Master Chief Petty Officer Stephen "Orthos" McKnight & Commander Luhanna Wintersnow
Mission:
Mission 17: The Drug-Dimmed Tide
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 0810Hrs - December 15th, 2390
Teval and Luhanna walked into the transporter room to wait for the inspection team to beam in. Teval nodded to the Transporter chief and the chief beamed the team in. Teval simply waited for Captain Olmos to begin her lecture.
An older, thin Betazoid woman materialized on the pad fairly quickly. Science blue colors made up the hazmat suit she and five other medical officers sported. Her face was barely holding a calm presence, from behind her transparent hood.
"Check for airborne microbes throughout the ship. Centralize the search to the most heavily trafficked places," the older woman told to one of her techs, who took the team and walked off in their bulky suits.
And then found Teval's eyes. "Commander? When my daughter calls me to inform me that ship is experiencing some sort of mass-epidemic, and that she herself is infected? I expect answers then, and not a fake transmission drop, and a sixty-hour search for my daughter."
Teval gave a calming sigh, "Listen, there was a box of klingon cigars that was on a heat source in the ventilation system, and the box caught fire, therefore causing most of the crew to end up stoned out of their minds, including myself."
Olmos rubbed her temples as she took in this information. "So why is Captain Tane not recovered from this toxic exposure?"
Teval sighed, then replied, "Yeah, while the captain was high, she came into contact with Lieutenant Furban, Twice."
Olmos had to face-palm. A long time ago, before she realized Nalla did not have good control of her abilities, she did get zapped. And it took a few days to feel normal again. So to hear Tane was hit twice in less than thirty-six hours? That was mind-breaking.
"Is there anyone still needing detox besides Captain Tane?" Olmos finally asked after her dumbfounded gaze left her.
"As far as I know no one else touched her," Teval replied honestly, "Other than that the crew has largely gotten over the cigar outbreak. But sickbay would have more detailed information on that."
"I think it's clear that my focus is to see Nalla," Olmos admitted as she began to walk out of the room with the officers. Her intent was to see Nalla first. "But I also saw your flight pattern diverted course twenty-three times before your transponder was ripped out. So I can guess your toxic escapade has rid you of some resources?"
Teval put his hand to his face, "Yeah, someone decided to play racing with the helm, and someone vented most of the deuterium. Unfortunately both me and Zara ended up being too high before we could transfer command codes to engineering, so our chief engineer was unable to override helm control. With in the process of this, the engines where redlined, and ended up being burned out for about 2 days. This also was causing power surges throughout the power grid which ended up shorting out various subsystems."
"I'll want to see Tane once I've seen Nalla," Olmos informed respectfully. "I have a muscle stimulant that works great for Nalla's accidental numbing accidents."
Teval didn't say anything further while the Trio went to sickbay. Windspirit was the first Doctor to see them and asked, "How may I help you?"
"I'm looking for Doctor Furban," Olmos spoke, her dark eyes looking around for her daughter as she removed the hazmat suit.
Windspirit shrugged, "I believe she is in her lab."
"Last I talked to her, she was starting to have an audio overload. Is she still suffering any of those effects?" Olmos asked while she looked around and noticed a lot of activity in sickbay.
"As far as I know she is still fairly disoriented," Windspirit replied.
"Well touching people generally will confuse her for a bit," Olmos spoke more to herself before she found Nalla's lab and looked inside.
While Olmo's went inside Nalla's lab, Teval looked at Luhanna, saying," Well, this is going better than I expected."
Luhanna nodded. "Some of the crew were affected, others were not.." she explained.
The kid looked a bit disheveled still, and confused. But Nalla did not show signs of intoxication.
"You look better than when we last spoke, Little One," Olmos began with a brave front. Smiling widely to her daughter.
Nalla looked up from the electronics she was fiddling with and did not exactly smile, but it may of been. Her entire body relaxed at the sight of her foster mother.
"I still have problems canceling out some of the noises," Nalla began. "And I am disoriented by the loss of memory from the past few days."
"It's a common effect from over exposure to some hallucinogens, Little One." Olmos attempted to console her daughter. And she chose that moment to hug Nalla. The young woman just sat there and blinked.
"I am well versed on drug effects, Mother. I am simply stating I do not like them. But I am otherwise recovering in an acceptable time frame," Nalla insisted, for which Olmos stopped hugging Nalla and stepped away smiling.
"Do you truly have to go through all that meditation again? It's a lot of work, Little One," Olmos spoke with concern. "I mean, there are some really great doctors here who could help you manage your pain -"
Nalla cut the other woman off very quickly, "I will manage. Within a few days, I should be in well enough control that I can function in my duties full-time."
"All right," Olmos acknowledged. She was not happy about Nalla's decision. It was a stupid one too, but Nalla would never broker much discussion on it. "I would like to see you before I leave. I have Spock and I also have something for Roscoe."
"Roscoe is in my quarters," Nalla spoke, and went back to her work. "However, I shall meet you at the transporter room when you get ready to leave."
Olmos actually smiled at that. Nalla was a private person and aware of others in the room, she did not want to be too candid around them. Still, it broke Olmos' heart to watch Nalla fluster because of some drug side effect.
Olmos then walked the others out of the lab and spoke quietly, "Roscoe is her saint Barnard. One Tane requisitioned from Starfleet Medical a couple of years ago to act as a therapy dog for her. So since she is struggling and can't admit to it, I would request that one of you makes sure Roscoe gets to Nalla and stays with her the next few days?"
Windspirit simply nodded, and left to retrieve the dog.
"Well..." Olmos sighed as she turned to the acting command staff of the ship. "I honestly don't know what to make of this ship. However, I give you credit in dealing with what you're handed. And if you need anything, my ship can aid you while we're here."
Teval Shrugged, "Well we could use a resupply of fresh food. A number of the crew got a severe case of the munchies due to the drug induced high."
"I'll have my crew send over two weeks worth of supply and I'll meet back up with you ship in a few weeks, with a month's more of our fresh food for you," Olmos promised.
"Thanks," Teval replied simply," So where do you want to go next."
Luhanna stood by Teval's side, the two of them made a rather unusual pair because he was so short and she was so tall, as she waited.
