Moving Along - Part One

Mission:
Mission 6: Q-ualty Time
Location: Various Locations - Starbase 400
Timeline: 0900Hrs - January 29th, 2389
It had been a few days since the peace talks ended and as usual life
aboard Starbase 400 had returned to its normal day in, day out hum-drum
pace.
It was 0500 hours and Admiral Bremer was in Ops looking over long range
sensor reports of activity along the Federation and Krazzle border, as
well as the C’Hakilian and Krazzle border. Things had simmered down in the
area. Relief and Transport convoys hadn’t reported any contact with
Krazzle ships, however Pirate activity in the area had increased. It
wasn’t clear if these were some of the Pirates that once operated in the
Triangle looking for new spoils, or a new group looking for bootie.
Mike leaned back in the chair for a minute, but before he could stand
several alarms stated to go off around Ops…
“Admiral, we have an alert on the station’s primary reactor…it’s in an
overload status!” Archer reported from the Operations Station.
Mike tapped his commbadge, but it clearly didn't open a channel. He then
tapped the comm button on the station he was at, again, no channel opened.
“Comms are out.” He then tried to send a message to the ships in space
dock, but it didn't go through either.
“Space doors are jammed closed, I can’t override!” Archer then reported.
“Thirty seconds to a core breach.” Roebuck reported as he looked over
systems.
“Emergency beam out, all personnel, transport them to the surface of Kaleb
IV.” Mike then ordered as he looked over the Engineering Station’s
readings.
“Transporters are offline now too.” Roebuck said as he slammed his fist
onto the panel.
Yamaguchi meanwhile was holding her silence as she was busy downloading all of the stations computer cores onto the computer cores of as many of the bases suport craft as she could, only to find the system had refused her access, normally it self 'request denied' but this time it said 'live long and prosper'.
The seconds ticked away down the zero, then the lights went out in Ops. A
moment later, the lights and all systems came back online. Everyone looked
around the room and at their consoles.
“Report!” Mike said as he also looked over things.
“All systems normal Sir.” Archer reported with a confused tone.
“Core is normal, space doors and transporters are online.” Roebuck added.
A moment later, Admiral Bremer’s Yeoman entered Ops from the turbolift
with her usual smile on her face. She took a few steps in, then stopped
and looked around at everyone clearly still trying to comprehend what just
happened.
When Mike saw Petty Officer de Luca, he walked over to her, “Did anything
strange happen while you were in the turbolift?”
“No sir.” She replied with a smile.
Mike put his hands on his hips as he looked around, “Archer, run a full
diagnostic of all systems in Ops.” He then tapped his comm-badge, and the
channel opened.
“Bremer to Coleman, check the Station’s Primary Reactor and power grid for
any abnormalities.”
"Aye, aye, sir. Can I ask why? I'm all greenlights down here." Coleman said over the comms.
“Nevermind.” Mike replied, leaving it like that or now.
An hour went by, everything seemed to be operating normally. Admiral T’Lar
had arrived in Ops, as had Gillo, K’Temoc, Lokran, La Baron, Harrison,
Varn, and a few others when suddenly, alarms started to sound again.
“Report.” Mike called.
“It’s not the core this time.” Archer replied.
“It’s the station itself, its orbit is decaying. Maneuvering and stability
thrusters are offline.” K’Temoc announced.
"Sensors are malfunctioning, I can't clear them." Yamaguchi commented.
“Internal communications are offline.” Varn reported next.
“Roebuck, get to the Engineering level, make sure this is another
‘glitch’.” Mike said.
Roebuck walked for the turbolift, but the doors wouldn't open.
Jewel was sitting in her office when she got up and tried to go out her door and the doors wouldn't open, "What the...." she said to herself then she tried tapping her combadge but nothing no beep nothing. She was getting upset at this point.
David Noticed the doors not opening, and proceded to kick them untill a crack wide enough opened to let him through. He then took off running twards Jewel's office, and yelled, "Jewel, are you ok?!''
"Yes I am fine," Jewel stated annoyed more then anything.
"Impact in Five minutes... The system has locked me out of the orbital stabilization thrusters." Yamaguchi's voice.
Several minutes went by as the crew in Ops scrambled around trying to
verified the problem and fix it, but at every turn they were blocked by
something…a system malfunction or lack of access.
"Impact in Sixty Seconds.... I can't get power for anything.." Yamaguchi again
Then finally, just before the Station would hit the atmosphere of Kaleb IV, everything returned to normal. All systems online and the
Station’s orbit right where it should be.
“What the hell is going on around here?!” Mike said aloud as he looked
around.
Deela could feel the confusion, frustration and tension around OPS. She too found herself frustrated at the situation.
Lee was sitting in his office going over reports when he felt the emotions from a lot of people in Ops. He put his datapadd down and headed to see what was going on.
Yamaguchi sighed softly, this was turning into an intresting morning, first it had been the bases self destruct and then the base falling out of the sky, what was up next?.
As everyone checked to make sure everything was well, another alert beeped.
“Admiral…you’re not going to believe this…but ALL of the vessels that were
docked within our internal bay are now free floating in space around the station. Space doors have been closed the whole time.” Archer reported.
“Do we have comms this time?” Mike asked.
“Yes, comms are up.” K’Temoc replied.
“Open the space doors, and send a message to all ships with crews aboard
to make their way back to their berths within the Station’s bay, and to
tractor a vessel with them that doesn't have crew aboard. Send the
Stations tugs to assist.” Mike ordered as he walked to one of the windows
in Ops and looked out. He could clearly see all of the ships free floating
as some powered up and stated maneuvering. The Pegasus, Gladiator,
Venator, Essex, Sar’Cho, and Luna among them. Even the nearly completed Yorktown-F was floating in space…
Mike then turned back and looked over at Lokran, “Have Security Teams
assigned to all vital areas and patrolling all decks. Get Colonel Hurd to
have his Marines doing the same.”
"I am on it, sirr." said R'nard. He gave the alert, sending the security teams and Marines to their respective places.
Mike then walked over to T’Lar and motioned for Harrison and K’Temoc to
join him. “What do you think?”
“System malfunctions would explain the earlier two…incidents, but not
this.” K’Temoc replied.
Alex stood there in thought, "I'd have to agree with K'Temoc."
For Deela, this felt all too familiar which led her to a crazy thought. She almost dismissed the thought but there was no other logical explanation and she didn't believe in ghosts, "This is going to sound crazy coming from me but all of this reminds me of an obnoxious omnipotent being that I've dealt with in the past." She had to put up with his not-so-funny practical jokes during the early years of her command of the Essex.
