Musings Over Coffee

Mission:
Mission 98: Building Our New Home
Location: Yamaguchi-Hobbs residence
Timeline: 1830Hrs - September 22nd, 2393
Brianna sat at the kitchen table. A steaming mug of coffee, heavily doctored with caramel cream, sat before her. She rubbed her expanded stomach. She was home while her marines were in the field, conducting a training exercise on some forgotten moon. That was no place for an expecting mother. Against her wishes, Garibaldi denied her request to join them.
It was odd, Brianna never really feared failure as a marine. But now she feared failing her unborn daughter. For the first time since the Dominion War, she was unsure of the future.
The door to the bathroom opened and out walked Celeste Yamaguchi-Hobbs, she was wearing a pair of high waisted shorts that did nothing whatsoever to hide her figure and a slinky tank top. "I can hear you thinking Bree, y'know... You've been sitting there since before I went for my shower." she commented as Charon emerged from the large bedroom that the kits all shared, he regarded Bree in silence as he tilted his head sideways, for him this was something totally new. "Maybe Bree is asleep mom." Charon failed to get a reaction from Bree.
Celeste gently smiled as she regarded Charon and his antics. He didn't know Brianna as Celeste did and she could see that her spouse was deep in thought.
"No Charon, Bree is deep in thought..." Yamaguchi-Hobbs commented in a light tone of voice, she was suddenly thankful that her aunt was babysitting Jackson for her, so there would be no disturbances of the child variety. "What say you and your siblings go on out for a few hours.?"
"Okay, what time do you want us back by.?" Charon inquired.
"Twenty-one hundred," Yamaguchi-Hobbs answered with a smile, and a moment later the three Caitians were gone. Leaving Celeste and Brianna alone.
Yamaguchi-Hobbs regarded her spouse. "Bree... Are you alright?" she asked gently as she moved to sit down next to her spouse who seemed to be in a daze, she knew that Bree had good cause to be distracted with the recent drama in life but it was no different than when Celeste was pregnant eighteen months earlier and Brianna had been the one who had caused Celeste to change her mind and keep her child rather than give him up for adoption or aborting. "Its gonna be okay Bree... I'm here..." she added a moment later, she knew that Bree would come back when she ready and not before.
Brianna came out of her trance and smiled at Celeste. "I'm well. I'm just a little hurt that my marines are out training and I'm here on my ass."
"I can well understand how you feel Bree." Yamaguchi-Hobbs smiled at her spouse. "You love being in the field with your troops, feeling the way you do is perfectly normal," she added as she gently rubbed her wife's shoulders with both of her hands. "Besides, you did this for me when I was carrying Jackson. It's my turn to look after you." as she slowly grinned at her spouse. "Honestly, coming to this assignment was the second-best choice I have ever made."
"Yes, this assignment was a blessing. I wanted a family and we aren't getting any younger." Bri replied.
Yamaguchi-Hobbs nodded her head. "After you have your little one, head on and get your General's rank and the stars to go with it. I will do what I do best... We have plenty of Admirals in our family, but no Generals." as she gave her wife a look before she smiled. She gently placed her hands onto her wife's shoulders. "It'll be okay Bree.."
Bree caressed Celeste's hands and gently kissed them. "Yes, I know I will be. You're a strong woman and I know you will guide me through this."
"Just as you did for me," Yamaguchi-Hobbs answered with a gentle smile. "When is your next prenatal?" she inquired.
"Two weeks." Brianna sighed. "I had less medical attention when I was hit by a Jem'hadar disrupter."
"I will be there," Yamaguchi-Hobbs answered with a gentle smile. "Send me the note about the time, the place, and which Doctor." she paused. "Hopefully its Sokanon."
"That would be nice. To have a familiar face go over my body." Brianna replied.
"Well, I've served with a lot of Vanguard's medics and doctors before... Most of her present command staff were all Doctors at one point." she sighed. "If Siaxx had not faced the bullshit that she had faced when she lost command of the Valorous, fourth of the first batch of ten Century-class ships. She frankly, should be where Valerie Dessaix or Tom Lasky is now. Well on the way to commanding her own fleet..." she shook her head. "Or she'd be in my shoes and I'd be Exec to her... Assuming she'd want me..." she sighed. "But you are in good hands, Bree... You got me, the kids... Siaxx... and Heather Duval keeping an eye on things..."
