Mission:
Mission 98: Building Our New Home
Location: Hobb's Quarters - USS Dreamcrusher
Timeline: 1400Hrs - May 20th, 2393
Commander Celeste Yamaguchi-Hobbs was tired, she knew intimately well what exhaustion was as her son was now a year old and he tended to wring her energy out of her, she entered her quarters where she found her spouse already at home with the kits. "Hey, guys. "Celeste addressed everyone in a tired voice. "Bri, did you get the memo?" she inquired, while she held up the PADD in her hands.
"Yes, I got it. No, I didn't read it. Sorry." Brianna told Celeste. "The little ones have kept me busy. What was in it?"
"Only that I'm being reassigned away from the Dreamcrusher to the second officer of Starbase Vanguard. The assignment takes effect in a month but the base in question is some distance away. several of Dreamcrushers crew are being reassigned there as well.." Celeste explained. "So no issues getting there." she paused. "Karass will need a New Chief of Science, a new Science warrant, and a new Exec, he's not happy about it but he and I discussed it, he feels I'd do better with a Starbase assignment, somewhere where the kits and us, can put down some serious roots."
"Really? So what does that mean for us? If I'm still stuck on the Dreamcrusher will you take the kids or will I take them?"
Yamaguchi-Hobbs regarded her spouse. "You weren't told?" she inquired in a gentle tone. "Bri, you're coming with too," she added as she offered her wife the PADD in her hands. "Karass asked me to tell you since it was addressed to us both."
"Really? I haven't received any orders. I guess Marine bureaucracy is slower than Star Fleet's." Brianna stated. "I thought I would have too much rank to be on this ship."
"I'm not sure," Celeste admitted as she slid her body into the seat next to her wife. "I can only assume that you'll be taking over one of the marine regiments assigned to Starbase Vanguard." she paused. "Or at least I hope so. If not and we are separated then I'll take the kits with me," she responded. "Unless you wanna keep them with you."
"Let's hold off on that until we know we need to split up. I would rather be with you and I hope Karass is right." She told her.
Yamaguchi-Hobbs nodded her head, in agreement with her spouse. "Yeah. I'm going to miss this ship. It was Dreamcrusher that brought my life into focus... It brought you and me together, it allowed me to have our family here and now. I'm leaving her."
"I'm sure you will. At least we will be together again in the same posting. This split ship relationship is driving me crazy." Brianna admitted.
"Speaking of. Karass also mentioned he wanted to bed me before I departed." Yamaguchi-Hobbs commented. "I'm wondering if I should let him down easy or toy with him. I mean the last time I offered myself to him, he was far too rough with me and I still recall the pain of that encounter." she mused. "I do not feel like a repeat." Celeste paused a moment. "But that was a long time ago and he was a different person then."
"If he is rough with you then don't. You're already overwhelmed. Do you want to be injured and overwhelmed?" Brianna asked. "Besides, isn't Karass with that odd looking purple girl?"
Yamaguchi-Hobbs gently slipped an arm around Hobb's torso before she rested her head on her wife's shoulder. "You and I at least know when to be rough and when not to be." she paused. "Come hither, come toil, come the labors of one's eternal struggles and I shall bear the first witness to your naked triumphs," Yamaguchi-Hobbs added.
"In due time my love," Brianna replied calmly. "Still need to deal with the offspring."
"I have no idea actually. Karass doesn't talk about anyone at all really." Hobbs-Yamaguchi responded. "I think I'll let him down easily but it's not often I get that sort of attention. Marie makes it look so easy." Hobbs-Yamaguchi let out a soft sigh. "Still, had he offered to bed you, I'd say go for it, I want to watch." Celeste then grinned at her wife.
"I like Karass but when he is around me he can keep pokey the snake in his pants," Brianna told Celeste. "And Marie, trust me, she is very much the odd girl out. Don't compare yourself to her. You follow a different path."
Hobbs-Yamaguchi chuckled softly. "Well Marie has a family with a Cardassian, Daniel has the same with a Vulcan and James has the same with a human. I'm the odd one out in that I'm with a woman," she explained. "I do stand out. I much prefer it that way. Why follow the herd right?" Hobbs-Yamaguchi smiled as she made herself comfortable next to her wife.
"You follow your own path because that is what is good for you. Does it matter that I'm a woman or you're in-laws are Cardassians or Vulcan's? You chose your mate because that person makes you whole. They get you. That's a rare commodity in our universe." Brianna told Celeste.
"Your not wrong Bri." Hobbs-Yamaguchi smiled. "Even though it's been a wild ride getting here. I'm glad I'm here," she answered with a smile. "So, any ideas on dinner?"
"Chicken!" Charon answered first.
"You had chicken last night and the night before Charon, No. Something else... but we could have chicken as a side but you young man, need something other then sunburnt dead bird."
"How about a nice roast beef? Maybe with mashed potatoes and gravy?" Brianna asked.
Hobbs-Yamaguchi felt her mouth watering as she smiled. Charon regarded Hobbs with a dubious look. "Is it good?"
Kaleen chuckled. "It is," she answered her littermate's question. "When do we eat?" she inquired, right as Jackson made his appearance by bumping into Celeste's knee. She then reached down and picked up the small child. "Well hello to you too, little guy."
Jackson cooed at his mother.
"I can have the replicator make us some in a jiffy or I can get some fresh food and cook it for about three hours," Brianna told them
Hobbs-Yamaguchi nodded as she gently held her son in her arms. "Well. I need to go change and have a shower. I feel dirty." she commented with a smile. "I'll put him down for a nap."
"I can order the store to deliver some fresh food from the commissary. It will be done in a few hours and until then you can enjoy the smells of cooking food." Brianna cheerfully told her family.
The three Caitian children all cheered at her as Hobbs-Yamaguchi smiled. "Sounds great." as she rose to her feet before she gave her wife a soft smile before she retreated into the master bedroom. "Whats up Jackson?" she asked her son, knowing he wouldn't be able to answer her.
Brianna put down her PADD. "Food is ordered. It will be here in a few minutes." Brianna noticed Jackson. "He still wants his mommy."
Hobbs-Yamaguchi gently cradled her son in her arms. "I know. I'd best go handle things," she responded with a smile. "Call me if something comes up." and with that, she retreated into the bedroom.
"I will," She told her before she disappeared. Brianna turned to the kits. "Alright, who wants to help me cook?"
Charon looked up at her. "I do," he commented as Kaleen paused. "Is it like setting fire to the ground for food?" she inquired.
Charon regarded his littermate before he shifted his attention back to Brianna. "No, we don't gotta scavenge."
Brianna laughed. "Cooking food isn't scavenging. I'll show you how to cook. Food tastes better when you cook it yourself instead of the replicators."
Charon followed her in silence into the kitchen, clearly, he wanted to know. "How?" he asked her, one word that spoke volumes.
"It isn't that hard Charon," Brianna told him. In the kitchen, a fresh hunk of meat, potatoes, and carrots was transported onto the table. "I'll turn the oven on and put the food in after I prepare it."
Charon regarded Brianna in silence, clearly curious about what was going to happen. "Okay, how do we prepare this?"
"We put the meat and carrots into this roaster after cleaning it." Brianna ran the meat and carrots under a scanner and then put them in the roaster. "We rub the meat down in oil and spices." She then sprinkled the oil and spices on the meat. "Next, it goes in the oven until we need to make the gravy." After putting the roaster in the oven, she turned to Charon. "Easy so far?"
"Sounds like it." he sounded like he was overwhelmed. "I should do it next time with you watching. To make sure." the small child explained with a smile. "It smells good."
"Don't get too worried about it Charon. Next time we cook I'll let you do it and I'll talk you through it. In about half an hour I'm going to boil the potatoes. You can help if you want." Brianna told the kit.
"I do." the child responded as he watched her intently. "You make it look easy." he added as he followed her and watched her carefully.
