Leila's News - Part One

Posted on Fri Aug 30th, 2024 @ 6:56pm by Fleet Captain Leila Reeves

Mission: Mission 112: The Heart of a Truth Long Lost
Location: Various Locations - USS Nath'qu
Timeline: 1000Hrs - January 30th, 2394

Fleet Captain Leila Reeves was on duty, she was also in uniform. A smile graced her lips while she regarded the display on the desk before her. It was of a letter she had received while she was asleep. It was a new set of orders. Escort a supply convoy to Starbase Four Oh Nine. She was also ordered to head for Starbase Twelve Oh three to meet the convoy.

Most of her squadron was dispersed between three assignments. She had a force of eight cruisers of various types under her overall command. Of those ships, two were assigned to a star mapping detail in sector twelve eighteen. Which was not far, about three sectors away, back towards the Taurus Reach and home. Two more had been assigned to a colonial relief assignment on the Purnell colony. A world that was dealing with the effects of recent events on the Niven colony when that world had arbitrarily declared independence. The last four were still operating with her.

When the former governor John Boehner had declared independence, the Federation had ended up evacuating anyone who wanted to leave. This was almost two-thirds of the colony which went on to found another colony nearby. This had left Leila and her fellow starfleet Captains assigned to this area with a lot to look after and a lot of mess to clean up.

The leader of the Niven colony. A Human male named John Boehner had declared that the prime directive was in full effect. That this world was a pre-warp agrarian society and thus could not be touched. Leila saw through the pretense then as she did now. She knew what he was going to do. Tighten his control over the world and lived like a king while the people of this world dealt with crippling levels of poverty and squalor. What was worse was that it was all pointless. His control was fleeting at best

Reeves sat back in her chair. She had kicked off her boots when she had entered the room, and they were next to her feet. So she could pull them on when needed. She smiled as she thought about her husband and children who were living on Starbase Vanguard. The place that she called home.

Her three children were teenagers, and while they often drove her utterly batshit insane. They were her babies, and she took great care to invest in their efforts, and their futures. This was not hard for Leila to consider, especally when she recalled what had been allowed to take place to her younger sister. First at the hands of her demon spawn of a mother and later at the hands of her husband.

Both sets of events made Leila's blood boil. Anyone who was anyone in her life had screwed Kimora around. Even Leila's husband had been angered and offended by the events in question. As far as Michael was concerned. Kenneth Hunt was not a man. He was a thing, a piece of refuse fit for collection. Thats when he attempted to file for custody of their two children. However, he failed as the judge sided with the lawyer who cited that Kenneth was the children's father, and he was best prepared to tend to their needs and issues.

All of this had permanently ensured that Michael Anderson would remain as a hated enemy of Kenneth Hunt, more or less until the end of time itself. This had only endeared him to Admiral Jason Reeves, who had considered Michael's actions as something that made him a part of the family and the son he never had. Anderson had ensured that the three children he had with Leila would never have to face the same issues that Leila herself did. For Leila, this was not difficult as what was could never be again. Asia Reeves had seen to that, most thoroughly, by smashing her own skull open on the bathroom floor.

Leila's opinion of her biological mother was not worth the paper it had been printed on. She had also made this clear to everyone who knew her.
She sighed as she looked down at the PADD sitting before her. She never referred to her mother as her mother. She had felt that Asia Reeves was utterly unworthy of the title of mom or mother. So, she had referred to her as Asia. This was something that had never ceased to cause her mother's temper to explode. Lelia grew to enjoy antagonizing her mother on this subject as well as many others. Especially after what Asia had done to Kimora, citing she was unable to handle looking after Savannah Reeves. Even after Kimora had stuck the infant up for adoption. Asia still disowned her own daughter, even though Kimora was nineteen at the time while Leila herself had been almost twenty-one.

Jason had not taken these events well either. However, dad had been a few years too late in dealing with his deranged spouse.
