Gabriel Yamaguchi gently touched his spouse's hand with his own. "I'm sorry Savv," he commented gently. Torilla Yamaguchi watched the woman she had come to call her daughter in silence. She had always known what it meant to be an outsider. It had been the same with her when she had first begun dating Jake Yamaguchi when she was much younger than Savv was now. Now Savv filled those boots, and Torilla was the accepting one. Someday, it would be Gideon and his wife, and Savv would be the one welcoming her into their family. Just as it would be for any of her other children and grandchildren when their times came.
Torilla watched as her son and the woman she had come to call one of her own "interacted. He knew that this was a big moment for Savannah and Gabe wanted to reassure her that all would be well. This brought a smile to her face.
Gabe smiled as he regarded his wife. "Now that we've picked names. What now?" he inquired of her.
"Now I can't take any assignments that have me leaving the Starbase," Savv answered. She then looked over at Torilla. "I wonder if that will change anything?"
"Who knows Sav," Torilla answered as she shrugged. "I've been looking at the matter as a guideline. What might happen? what could happen? To me, things are the same tomorrow as they were yesterday." she then smiled. "It'll be fine Sav. Don't worry about it," Torilla commented with a gentle smile on her lips. "Bring the kids over to my place and I\'ll take them off your hands for a couple of days," she added.
Savannah regarded the woman she had come to call her mother. "I'm not sure I could be as accepting of it as easily as you are, Mom." she paused. "I wish I had your strength," she admitted. "You make it all look so easy."
Torilla slowly smiled at her son's wife. "I wish I had your optimism," she admitted. "You make it look so peaceful" she added.
Gabe took that moment to reenter the conversation. "Besides with Jason Reeves interested in the situation now, we have a lot more strength than we had this time yesterday. Besides. We got dad in our corner and I heard rumblings that Fleet Admiral Duval is interested in this issue as well." Gabe suddenly grinned at his mother who grinned back at him.
"Yeah. Thats the part that frightens me." Sav commented in a rather nonchalant manner. "The local Fleet Admiral is interested in the situation of which I'm a part." she pressed on with her explanation. "It doesn't hurt that dad is her Exec, and he probably mentioned it to her not ten minutes after we mentioned it to him," she commented.
"Oh, probably." Torilla agreed. "I can almost be certain that he did." she then slowly grinned as she regarded the two people before her. "I know Jake's mind as well as he does. I have not just his ear but his mind's ear," she added. "He will not tolerate this level of nonsense with his kin. Admiral Hunt will not be permitted to come anywhere near you. I can promise you both this much. He won't get anywhere near the Taurus Reach without Admiral Duval knowing about it." she added with a rather wide grin on her face. "Don't worry so much Sav. I know that Jake knows he intimidates people. Why do you think he's never in uniform unless he's heading into the office." Torilla explained with a gentle smile on her face.
Sav paused. "I never thought about that," she admitted. "I'd never considered it," she added after a moment.
"Yeah. Thats because Jake wants you guys to treat him as himself and not as a Starfleet Admiral. He hates the responsibility and the post. He had always felt his greatest mistake was taking a promotion past the rank of Captain." Torilla commented. "Besides, thats not a can of worms you need to worry about guys," she added. "Don't worry about Admiral Hunt either. He won't get anywhere near either of you." she then grinned at Sav then Gabe in turn. "I hope he doesn't try, but I know your father is prepared for him should he ever make that attempt," she explained, more to Gabe than to Sav. But the point was still the same. "If your dad doesn't get him, then Jason Reeves will. I'm going to look up his records. I want to know who your grandfather is sweetie." Torilla paused. "I get the impression that he's not a man I want to trifle with lightly. Which is good to know." Torilal explained.
Sav smiled. "Okay," she answered. "I'll admit that this was not what I thought was going to be on today's bingo card when I got out of bed today, but I'll take it all the same," she admitted.
