Mission:
Mission 120: All Along the Watchtowers - Part Two
Location: Various Locations - Utgarde IV / USS Tribal
Timeline: 1805Hrs - January 31st, 2394
Commander Kassie Paris was having a truly miserable day. The effects were showing on her face. She was left with two choices, either turn in her command or send her two youngest into Starfleet foster care. Kassie already had enough regrets about sending Kadian into foster care when there was nobody around to look after her when both she and William were both off on assignment.
Kassie had already informed Starfleet that neither she nor her husband was able to comply with directive: Two-Nineteen. Regarding the proper relocating of dependants, as they were both assigned to the Tholian front. Kassie knew that William was considering requesting reassignment to somewhere else. Anywhere else and then take the kids with him.
Kassie knew she was having issues with her command as it was. She had spoken with several members of her crew about it, and all of them agreed that if she wasn't happy here on the Tribal, there were plenty of open postings in the Taurus Reach where she could thrive. Kassie had considered the situation at large. She then realized that she had been promoted to a posting that she was not very good at. Her heart lay in Engineering and it was there that she much desired to return.
"Soon, this will all be done," Kassie said to herself. A month ago, she then stuck in the notice for Starfleet to replace her as Commanding Officer of the USS Tribal. Then ten days ago, she was informed that her replacement was on the way. She would be reassigned to the ground base on Utgarde IV. The ground support facilities for Starbase Vanguard.
Paris knew she needed to send her two children ahead of her. So Kassie was stuck calling in a favour. From the only person in the Galaxy who could be able to assist her with the issue at hand. "Come on Kadian. Pick up," she commented softly.
The screen stayed lit with the Federation wreath. Suddenly a face she didn't know appeared. "Hello. This is Starbase Vanguard com center. Can I help you?" The young man addressed Kassie.
"Hey. I'm looking for Lieutenant Kadian Paris. She presently works at Starbase Vanguard's medical facilities." she explained with a smile on her lips. "Is there any chance you could connect me to her?"
"Give me a moment, ma'am." the man answered with a nod. "Let me track her down for you." he went to work. "She's not presently on the base... She's on the planet below." he shrugged while he called Kadian.
Kassie grinned as she settled in to wait. "Shit!" she muttered ever so softly. She knew her daughter would be a few minutes.
Kassie regarded Kadian when she appeared on the screen, she looked to be wearing only a t-shirt. Her hair was mused and her eyes were bloodshot. Kassie then realized that she had just woken her daughter out of bed. This in itself, was strange as Kadian never slept during the day. Then it dawned onm her that Kadian had not been asleep.
She raised an eyebrow. "Am I interrupting something?" she commented.
"I was just having a rather scintillating chat with my boyfriend," Kadian answered quietly. "What's up mom?" in what she hoped was a reasonable tone. The look on her mother's face told her instantly that she had failed rather pathetically.
"I need your help, honey." Kassie groaned softly. "There's nobody else I can turn to and nobody on short notice. The USS Tribal is heading back to Vanguard to do crew rotation and drop off all of the crew's dependents. This means your two younger siblings are leaving too. Your dad can't take them for the same reason and there is nobody else."
"You want me to take them in and... What?" Kadian asked. "Raise them?"
"What. No." Kassie responded. "I'll be leaving the Tribal as well. But I need a week to get things in order after I get to the Starbase so my successor doesn't have a ton of crap to deal with," Kassie explained. "I'm taking over as Executive Officer of Utgarde Base," she explained. "But I need time to get sorted."
"Time that my siblings won't give you," Kadian responded. "I can't make this decision alone." she paused a moment. "Not if I'm looking after them within the next two weeks... Which I assume I will be. This place I'm at right now. It's not mine and I can't ask Marcus to handle the matter. He's just got here. This morning, local time, of course."
Kassie nodded. "Can I make my case to him?"
"Sure," Kadian answered. "I'll be right back." She rose to her feet as Kassie knew instantly that her daughter was not wearing any pants of any kind. She smiled but opted not to comment on it. Kassie groaned softly. Her daughter had not been asleep but rather, she had been having a sexual encounter that Kassie herself had interrupted. She sighed softly, as she herself had been here before. Having sex with her husband while being interrupted by needy people.
Kadian went into the hallway. She went down into the main living space where she found Marcus, sitting on the sofa. "Hey, Can I borrow you for a moment?" she asked. "Mom wants a moment of your time. Don't worry, I think she'll return you intact."
Solusar smiled. "After you."
