Mission:
Mission 98: Building Our New Home
Location: Various Locations - USS Manticore
Timeline: 1000Hrs, August 12th, 2393
On the main bridge of the USS Manticore. Commander Bethany Woerner regarded the display before her. "Already... That's some fine work Lieutenant." she addressed Alanna Rehvick, the ships Chief Operations Officer. "Well, it didn't take long as I had two guys in my department and both of them like long and exhausting work, debugging computer systems." the younger female commented. "They said it would take a week but they did it in five days."
"Well, give them a couple of days off, sounds like they bled for it too," Woerner answered with a smile on her lips
Suddenly, the captain's voice cut through the conversation and the chatter on the bridge like a hot blade through butter. "Feraan to Woerner. Could you come in here please, when you get a moment?"
"Right away skipper," Woerner answered with a nod. "Carry on Lieutenant." she turned. "Master Chief, the bridge is yours."
Master Chief Khataar nodded his ears as they rotated to fixate on the human female before him, "Aye Commander." The Caitian answered evenly as he moved to the center chair on the bridge while Woerner went into the ready room. "You wanted to see me, skipper?." the small female inquired as she moved into the room.
"Have a seat Beth," Feraan commented as she indicated the chairs on the other side of her desk. "I got a call from Admiral MacKean, you were the topic of conversation."
Woerner raised an eyebrow. "I wasn't doing anything other than spending time with my husband and kids. The time we spent at the beach was fun. I was not aware of any trouble."
"There isn't any trouble Beth," Feraan commented with a smile. "You are being offered your own command. Starfleet wants to know if you wish to take command of your own ship. One's available for you, she's right out of the shipyards. The USS Daedalus." Feraan explained herself.
"She's a standard Century. I hear she'll be field testing the new mark two standard missiles." Woerner smiled as she considered it. "But I'm not sure I'm ready for her."
"I disagree," Feraan answered with a smile. "I said as much to Admiral MacKean. You have been indispensable and invaluable to my command and you've earned this. Manticore will alright without you and your replacement will do just fine." Feraan added. "Your ready for this Beth."
Woerner paused a moment. She considered it a moment longer before she nodded. "Very well. I accept."
"Good. The Manticores loss will be Daedalus's gain. You may select anyone you wish to go with you but this new assignment takes effect on the first of September, so you got roughly three weeks to sort out what needs to be sorted out." Feraan commented with a smile. "Who do you recommend to succeed you as Exec. I'd prefer to promote from within the crew, I don't think this crew can take too many more jolts like what happened last year."
"That's understandable," Woerner explained. "As some of the crew are still pissed off with Starfleet command for their actions a year ago. Others have calmed down and moved on, myself included. You reassured this crew that it would be okay and you were right." Woerner explained with a smile. "My top pick for Exec honestly would be Tan'ato Tejera, he's a very stable personality and he's recently tied the knot with his spouse. I think him and Kaitlin Nesbitt sure make an adorable couple, she was my other serious candidate as Doctor Shorin Gal'jaridd just isn't in the room to become Exec, but personally, I don't think she cares either way... Everyone else is all Lieutenants." Woerner paused. "I'd like to recommend Yoshi Kawagawa and Tyla Shrikewing for promotions to Lt Commander. They both have done sterling work since coming here, especially Shrikewing."
Feraan nodded her head with a smile. "Okay, I'll stick in the paperwork for the three of them then," she answered. "I'll also need a new science officer to replace the big man."
"Works for me," Woerner answered with a smile. "I'll start packing and I'll be ready to depart on the thirtieth of this month." the small human answered. "I'll have all my paperwork ready to go at that time."
Feraan nodded. "Sounds good to me, one last detail though." as she produced a small black box. "I'm authorized to promote you to Commander. Effective immediately." as she gently shook Woerner's right hand as she handed her the small black box with her left, Woerner opened it to reveal a single golden pip, she then reached up to her collar, before pulling off the single black pip and she replaced it with the golden pip. The small female admired it for a moment before placing it inside the black box and handed it back to Feraan a moment later. "Thank you, Captain."
"Your welcome Commander. You have been irreplaceable during the last year but I will not hold you back or keep you here when chances like this come calling." the massive female explained while she remained sitting across from Woerner. "That would be wrong of me."
"Tan'ato will make a fine replacement for me. He already knows all he needs to know, he is a skilled leader and while he carries around a lot more baggage then I do, he has a spouse that can really help him with the load." the small human female responded.
"Alright, well you got a lot to do and not a lot of time to do it so I won't keep you Beth, on your way." it was Feraan's way of saying that Woerner was dismissed and the conversation was over.
"Aye sir." and with that, the small female rose to her feet and she departed the office in silence.
