Infinity's End - Part Fourteen

Mission: Mission 108: Grains of Sand
Location: Various Locations - Starbase Vanguard / USS Infinity
Timeline: 1545Hrs - October 28th, 2393

"So what's with the picture?." Stormstout asked softly.

"Oh. That's T'Shaamet toying with my brain. She does that with various people from time to time... I respect it, even if I do not understand it..." as he turned to face the large female before him. "Shall we go handle the changeover?"

"Yes... Let's go tend to matters of state." Stormstout answered quietly.

"Grand," Yeager answered quietly. "Let's go." and with that. the two went back to the turbolift. A minute or so later both stepped out onto the bridge where Admiral Shepard and Commodore T'Shaamet were both waiting for him. Admiral Kimora Shepard nodded to Yeager who approached the zafting woman before him. She held a PADD in hand and everyone present all stood up as the appointed time had come.

Shepard lifted a PADD and she began reading from it. "All hands, attention to orders... To Commodore T'Shaamet Antilles. Commanding Officer, USS Infinity. Stardate Seven Oh Eight Two Three Point Five One... you are hereby requested and required to relinquish command of your vessel to Captain Travis Yeager. Starfleet as of this date. Signed Fleet Admiral Heather Duval. Starfleet Command." Shepard explained formally why everyone was here and what it was everyone was supposed to be doing at this point in time.

T'Shaamet turned to Yeager as she looked up at him, her dark brown eyes giving nothing away as she regarded him. "Computer, transfer all command codes to Captain Travis Yeager. Voice authorization: T'Shaamet Two Nine Theta Charlie," she explained.

"Command codes transferred. USS Infinity is now under the command of Captain Travis Yeager." the computer responded in its usual blunt tone.

"I relieve you, Captain..." Yeager commented softly. T'Shaamet looked up at him, her dark eyes were almost inviting as she nodded her head. "I stand relieved Captain..." she answered softly. With all of that said, the two officers gently shook hands in the human fashion before Yeager lifted his hand in the Vulcan style. "Peace and long life T'Shaamet..."

"Live long and prosper Travis," T'Shaamet answered in the same tone as she gave him the unexpected response.

Shepard knew her business here was concluded and she turned before departing in silence. Yeager watched as T'Shaamet left the bridge for what he was sure to be the last time. "Farewell old friend," he said quietly before he went over to the Captain's chair but he didn't sit down in it.

Yeager spent the next several minutes of accepting the various congratulations and warm comments that a new skipper was generally entitled to receive from his crew upon taking command of a ship of the line. As they finished. Yeager knew he needed to say a few words so he moved to the front of the bridge. "If you all don't mind. I've got a few words I'd like to say... I know everyone here is busy with work... But this will only take a moment." he paused a moment.

"First. I'd like to say thank you all for the warm welcome and for your kind words... This is a crew in a state of transition. Its been made clear to me that this is a storied crew with some who have gone. some of us are new like myself. " Yeager paused a moment. "Infinity isn't a young ship but she does have a lot of life left to live. But we all know where she's going and while she's here, we will do our best to make sure history doesn't forget her... Because none of us will..." Yeager paused a moment as his speech needed to be concluded before it started preaching or wasting good air that did not need to be expended on this. "I am not going to try to replace the Commodore and nor would I ever try. I can carry on for her. Same as she did when she took over for her previous Captain and all I can say is that we will become the finest crew in the fleet. Thank you." Yeager turned to his first officer. "Number one. I'm going to discover the ready room. If anyone wants me, that's where I'll be."

Stormstout nodded her head. "Aye Captain."

Yeager turned and retreated into the ready room in silence.
