My Heart is Broken - Part Three

Posted on Sun Jul 31st, 2022 @ 8:58am by Admiral Jake Yamaguchi & Fleet Captain Torilla Yamaguchi

Mission: Mission 115: The Pale-Fac'd Moon looks Bloody on the Earth
Location: Various Locations - Starbase Vanguard
Timeline: 2115Hrs - November 17th, 2393

Jake knew all of this very well, he understood his wife's mindset on what she was saying and while he had no wish to part her from her children for months on end, he understood he needed to ask the question directly. "Which puts us back where we started," he commented. "Will you accept this assignment?"

"No," Torilla answered in a flat tone, she saw no need to prolong the issues before them and she also saw no need to sugar-coat the problem either. "I meant what I sad all those years ago, I wanted nothing to do with them... They were content to let my parents die in agony and dismiss me as something less than worthless. So... Fuck them." Yamaguchi rose to her feet as she spoke, Jake watched in silence as she did so because he knew his wife could get rather loud when she was angry, he knew this was coming and he was fully content to let her air her piece in silence. He had objected to Starfleet coming to her, he had made this clear and he saw no need to try to placate his angry spouse, he also saw no need to muzzle her or silence her.

"I lived with the fear of knowing my parent's downfall would be my downfall sooner or later, that's why I focused so hard on our children because I knew the telepathic Huntingtons would get me if that didn't then it would be the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis that my line is known for." she paused. "Thanks to the Akurians, those issues are both resolved...Forever, Jake... Do you have any idea how that feels... to know the shroud I've lived with for my entire godammned life was removed with the touch of a few buttons and a press of some medication...?"

"No," Jake answered. "But you have told me of the various medical concerns you faced... How you'd pass them along to our children... and..." as he sighed while he recalled the memories of the events in question. He could see Torilla was as well. "But it got sorted out... That mess is behind us and good riddance too." as Jake gently took his wife's hand in his own. "I know how that's bothered you at night..."

"Yeah... It has Jake." Torilla answered. "Not a night goes by when those fears still don't touch me on some level..." she admitted. "You have those same concerns as well and for the same reasons as I did..."

"Yeah... Its something we managed to overcome... Though not without work... and not without pain..." Jake let out a soft sigh while he regarded his spouse while he spoke, he had already gotten his answer to his question and he saw the need to not reign in his spouse. "They say that about all moments in spacetime... Moments of revelation... and moments of transition, into what, we can only imagine but they are almost always born... In pain." as he regarded her. "I take it... your answer is still no?"

"Yes, Jake..." Torilla answered her husband's question with her own emphatic statement of fact. "No. I'm not going to take the assignment. I'll drop my retirement papers first..."

"Indeed," Jake answered, without a trace of surprise, as if he had been expecting this. Jake regarded her. "Stick around, you can tell Fleet Admiral Duval yourself," he commented. "Then... I can go back to bed and delete this entire evening from my memory..."

Torilla raised an eyebrow. "Why are you so against the idea?"

"After what they did to you.?" Jake regarded his wife with a curious look. "How can you ask that question?" he paused. "In any case, it doesn't matter anyway... They asked me to tell you, shipping they would not see you lose it... and instead ask me to handle it."

Torilla was tired while she sat down next to her husband. "I'll work up the energy about getting angry tomorrow... Right now, I want my husband to take me back to bed... I'm sensing he's been deprived... I'll let him have his way with me."

Jake smiled at hearing that, one of the precious few things in his life was the enjoyment of bedding his wife. Torilla was highly capable and she was able to ensure he got his, the same as she got hers. "Alright... First things first though." as Jake tapped his combadge. "Yamaguchi to Comm Center.?"

"Go ahead, Admiral?". came a voice that Jake did not recognize.

"Get me, Fleet Admiral Duval, please," Jake answered. "She is present aboard the USS Reaper," he added.

"One moment, placing your call." came the answer, moments later the screen lit up with the face of Heather Duval. She looked tired as she found herself looking at Torilla Yamaguchi who was wearing almost nothing, she knew without being told what the younger woman would say. "I formally refuse the assignment Admiral," Torilla explained herself in a rather flat tone of voice.

"I understand," Duval answered. "Thank you Torilla, for not dragging this matter out and more then it needed."

"Its late Admiral. I'm tired and I've been through a lot recently..." Torilla answered softly. "I will have my formal report for you tomorrow afternoon... I need more time to write it..."

"I understand..." Duval sounded utterly defeated before the conversation ended and she hung up. Jake rose to his feet. "Come on Tee... Lets go back to bed."

"Very wise..." Torilla answered quietly as the two departed the den.
