Jake sighed "For fuck sakes..." he muttered. "I can't even have one night... One fucking night... with my wife and you rat-bastards gotta ruin it for me..." he yelled at the black screen before he sighed while he shook his head. "You can come in now Tee..." it was Jakes's nickname for his wife. He didn't turn his head to look at his spouse, he knew she would be extremely angry.

"How did you know I was there?" Torilla inquired, as she stepped into the office, she then gently placed her hands onto his shoulders. "What's the bad news you do not wish to share with me?" as she looked down at him, Jake looked up at her face as she stood above him.

Jake let out a soft sigh. He loved his wife's touch and while part of him wanted to dispense with the chat and simply take her right here, another part of him, the one that was firmly wedded to his duty intervened. "Command seems to think you will make an outstanding diplomat." as he indicated the chair next to him, Torilla was many things as she slid her almost nude form into the chair beside her husband in silence.

"Ahh.." Thus, there it was, Yamaguchi quickly understood, it was because Korelii had said no to the assignment of taking over as New Halana's temporary leader, and now they were asking Torilla to consider it, Jake knew she would say no simply because of her reasons. he knew she had wanted nothing to do with the world or the people on it. Her people's treatment of her had been as shocking as it was insulting, they had considered her dead for twenty years. "Me... Why me?" Yamaguchi asked of her husband.

"Because you are Halanan and from the world in question." Jake knew the answer was lame and stupid the moment it left his mouth but it was all he had. "You know how I feel on the subject... But what I don't know is how much of that chatty that you heard between me and Heather Duval."

"At nine o'clock in the evening, that woman needs to get laid," Torilla answered. "Does she do anything other than work?"

"She does... Sometimes... But command wanted her to deal with this matter and she called me... She said it couldn't wait, that's what woke us both... and I went to answer this and you stayed in bed." Yamaguchi sighed softly. "I'm pretty sure you wanted to do more on this leave then sit around and listen to me complain."

"I did Jake," Torilla answered with a nod of her head. "It's unfair to you, and to me," she added. "But what else is there... With this thing on New Halanaa?" she pressed. "They came to you for a reason, something other than me... They cited my career..."

"They did," Jake answered, confirming her suspicions. "They said you'd be able to work wonders..." as he rolled his eyes. "You only hold the rank you do because you made our family the main priority. Not because of lack of effort, this let me get away with the shit I pulled... Your sacrifices are why I have the rank I do." he sighed. "Hell, your sacrifices are why we have the family we do and why we lead the lives we have," he added. "What your people called your dalliance with me... Was what led to Elizabeth and Ouros coming along and your people decided you were not fit to be among them anymore... That's why I didn't want to tell you." Jake left out that Ouros was not from this reality but he knew that those details weren't relevant anyway.

"Who else is available?" Torilla answered with a soft sigh, she had a feeling of the answer but she wished to be sure once and for all.

"There are no other..." Jake answered softly. He knew of what his spouse was asking, "Not on such short notice anyway... This one should have gone to the diplomatic corps and not regular Starfleet..." he sighed. "We need an experienced diplomat for this, not a serving line officer who has a hundred better things to do."

Torilla regarded her husband in silence for a moment. "Well, my exile is over, same with Korelii, she seemed less enthusiastic than anything else. I don't think she truly cares to be honest... I know Laneli doesn't and Plataea, the less said about her, the better."

Jake regarded his spouse. "Are you and Plataea having problems?" he inquired gently.

"No..." Torilla slowly let out a soft sigh. "I doubt she'd take the assignment anyway... I doubt one could part her from her children or Tom Lasky. and I know Laneli won't, she'd look at you and laugh at your impudence." as she regarded her husband. "I was much the same with you when Elizabeth and Gabe were the ages of Nigel and Kurt..."
