My Heart is Broken - Part One

Mission:
Mission 115: The Pale-Fac'd Moon looks Bloody on the Earth
Location: Various Locations - Starbase Vanguard
Timeline: 2100Hrs - November 17th, 2393
Fleet Captain Torilla Yamaguchi had been glad that the babysitter was available on such short notice as she wished to be irresponsible with her husband, as she had missed him and wanted a few hours alone with him so she could bed him in peace. Torilla knew that someday Diamond, Tressa, Paul, and all of the others would understand how the world worked. As she rose from the bed, wearing only a set of underwear as she wondered where her husband had gotten off to. The zafting woman frowned as she mentally concentrated on her husband's psionic presence, she knew him intimately and what's more, she also knew how his mind worked.
Torilla's sense of unease only increased when she mentally detected him in his office which was in the next room, she rose to her feet and moved out of the bedroom in silence, there were no children present so it made little difference on what clothing she wore or the lack thereof. It was much the same as with all of her adult children. Ouros wasn't seeing anyone so she didn't care. Selendis was expecting children as was Elizabeth so both women had to watch what they were doing, especially when it came to sex with anyone, including their spouses. Rachael and her family were off on the Heart of the Tiger so she needed to keep the noise down otherwise the neighbors would have concerns. Gabe was off with his wife on the USS Spirit of Winter but she knew that both were in for reassignment as Gabe was due for his promotion to Lt Commander within a few weeks and Captain Sheridan had been asked to give them up due to rank limitations, the man had been extremely difficult to convince but he had relented, citing losing two officers would be detrimental to his command and the effects of the same.
Yamaguchi stopped at the threshold of Jake's office as he was presently having a conversation with someone, well it was more like an argument.
"You can't be serious about this... She should be called in and told this directly from you." Jake growled at whoever he was speaking with.
"Jake, this is an amazing opportunity for her... Torilla will be able to advance her career more in ten weeks then she has in the last ten years... Trust me, Jake... This will be amazing for her." Fleet Admiral Heather Duval was still in uniform, looking as cool as cucumber soup and as unrattled as ever, Jake, on the other hand, was wearing a pair of shorts and his uniform undershirt. He also looked angry were as she looked as serene as ever.
Jake frowned. "That does not mean she needs to be woken up from sleeping and told "hey we're gonna cancel the leave you so badly need because we think you'll make a brilliant diplomat... Heather, for fuck sakes, are you trying to make my wife drop her retirement papers!. Because she will... As soon as I tell her this... I'm telling you right now... Find someone else, Heather... Don't make me tell her this garbage. She won't do it... I wouldn't do it and I doubt anyone else I know would take the assignment either..."
"Has anyone ever said that you are an impossible man to deal with, Jake?" Heather inquired. "You didn't even ask her."
"I do not need to ask my spouse anything, especially on this matter... I know how she thinks... What's more, is that I understand my wife on a level that most can't even comprehend Heather... Since we're now on a first-name basis... Let me be blunt with the matter at hand, I expect this to go extremely poorly..." Yamaguchi sighed softly.
"Jake, you are so blunt with the matter a hand, I need a chocolate bar to replace the fat you just tore off of my ass..." Duval answered bluntly.
"Alright, fine..." Yamaguchi caved suddenly, so suddenly that Duval instantly looked suspicious. "I'll tell her," Yamaguchi added. "But make no mistake, I consider this course of action stupidly unwise and I'll do this under protest." he paused. "But if the Grey Wolf ships out suddenly then you'll have your indirect answer," Jake answered with a soft sigh. "If she leaves..." he left the rest unsaid, he did not need to say it, she knew it too.
"Alright. I'll make this up to you Jake..." Duval answered.
"I doubt you could Admiral. I sincerely doubt anyone could heal this rift in my marriage... My sibling divorced her husband for less than this... But I'll talk to Torilla and see how she feels on this matter... Hopefully, her reaction won't be too extreme. I mean I doubt I'll end up dead before the first moonrise but then..." as Jake's entire demeanor suddenly shifted from semi-relaxed to formal, for those who didn't know how Jakes mind worked, it could be extremely jarring and he often did it as a way of shaking people up and making others uneasy. "As I said, Admiral... I will speak with her, I do not expect this go to well... Don't go far either. I have a feeling I'll be calling you back in ten minutes."
"Alright, Jake... I'll leave you to stir up this shitstorm then." and with that, the screen went black.
