Infinity's End - Part Eight

Posted on Mon Feb 28th, 2022 @ 7:12pm by Commander Morae Stormstout & Commodore T'Shaamet 'Runt' Antilles & Lieutenant Jim Midyette

Mission: Mission 108: Grains of Sand
Location: Various Locations - USS Infinity
Timeline: 1000Hrs - October 28th, 2393

Lieutenant Jim Midyette was due to report to his new assignment, and this would be his first time as a senior officer of a ship of the line. He stood in the transporter room on the USS Hunu, a Century class starship which was bringing a consignment of supplies to Starbase Vanguard which would assist in getting her connection to the transwarp gate network finished, apparently the USS Shinano was having issues or something or other, Midyette didn't fully know the specifics as he had not really paid attention to the matter at hand.

Midyette was nervous as his hands shook, he was unsure and unsettled.

"Nervous?" Lieutenant Beth Nilsen commented in his ear, the two had served together for years and now the two would be parted by assignments, she was heading off to wherever she was heading and he was going to the USS infinity to become their new chief science officer.

Midyette regarded her. "A little." he decided to admit the issues with Nilson otherwise she would publicly call him out on the matter.

"Fair enough, but you trained for this, you've been tested and you're ready Jim. I think you're gonna do great." Milson answered, a wide grin on her face. "We know that if I were going with you, one of us would be playing second fiddle to the other... and I got the better scores then you did," she added. "Parting us may not be all bad though. Next time I see you, we'll both be department heads on larger ships of the line," she explained, her smile also did not dim in wattage either. "Don't worry so much... I'm told Infinity is a good ship of the line with a crack crew. You'll be fine." she added.

Midyette found Nilson's attitude to be rather annoying at times, she thought he found it endearing but it was anything but, he wanted this encounter to end so he could move on with life. "Alright, well... Its time for me to get going." Midyette answered with a gentle smile.

"You're going to beam over or head for their airlock?" Nilson answered.

"I think I'll head over to their airlock and board the ship," Midyette answered the woman beside him. "You go on without me."

"Alright," Nilson answered before she slowly, and almost hesitantly, she hugged him goodbye before the two parted company, as he entered a turbolift and she went off down the hallway. "Transporter room twenty-six," Mideytte commented, the lift started moving a moment later.

The doors parted as the lift came to a stop, he stepped off and went into the transported room.

"One to beam over to the USS Infinity please Chief?" Midyette requested, a gentle smile on his lips

"Could I have a look at your orders please sir?" the transporter chief inquired of Midyette.

Midyette mentally kicked himself for not expecting this sooner, he stepped over to the other man and handed the Chief the PADD in his hand. He accepted it and gave it the quick once over before he handed it back to her. "Thank you sir."

Midyette accepted the PADD back before he went over to the transporter pad, he stepped onto the pad before he turned to face him. The Chief had just finished informing the transporter chief on the Infinity that he had a passenger to be sent over.

He turned to Midyette. "They are ready for you."

"Thanks, energize whenever you're ready Chief," Midyette answered before he was transported aboard the USS Infinity. Midyette found herself in a transporter room much like the one she left, except the color scheme on the walls and floors was different and the transporter chief was someone new. The real standout was the diminutive woman who had come to meet him. "Permission to come aboard?" Midyette inquired in the old naval tradition.

T'Shaamet smiled gently at him. It was faint but it was there. "Welcome aboard Lieutenant," she commented. "I am T'Shaamet and I am the Commander of this fine vessel." the female regarded him.

"Oh... I'm sorry sir., I did not expect the skipper to come and meet me." Midyette answered quietly.

"Morae and I like to split these meetings between the two of us. She is overdue for her own command and I wish for her to learn quickly before someone poaches her for a command." T'Shaamet explained with a nod of her head. "Such is the fates of life in Starfleet..."

"Yessir," Midyette answered with a nod of his head as he presented her with the PADD in his hand. "My orders sir."

"Ahh... Nice." T'Shaamet answered. This was a response that Midyette found confusing as he could tell that this woman was a small framed Vulcan, yet she spoke as a human would. "My speech and manners confuse you, Lieutenant?" she inquired,.

"You speak as a human would. I am uncertain of why this is the case ma'am." Midyette answered. "It's a little strange."

"A fair point," T'Shaamet answered. "My mate is human, I have children with humans, it's easier for them to relate to me and thus it means I can connect with and get along with them much easier," she explained. "Shall we go?" she then handed the PADD back to him.

"Yessir..." Midyette answered with a nod of his head.

"Very well." and with that, the two departed the transporter room, before moving down the hallway towards the quartermaster office, for his quarters assignment.
