Commodore Celeste Yamaguchi-Hobbs sighed softly as she slowly slid into the chair at her desk, she gently ran her hands through her mane of hair on the top of her head, her right hand gently reached across her ample chest as she tapped her combadge. "Yamaguchi-Hobbs to Operations. Could you guys contact Starbase Eighty Two? I need to speak with their Chief Medical Officer. Mark it as personal." she paused. "If she doesn't accept it then try a second time," Yamaguchi-Hobbs commented evenly.
"Willdo." came the gentle dulcet tones of Captain Lasky. Yamaguchi-Hobbs smiled as she thought of Plataea seated at her post, busy with her work as she thought that the other woman looked quite fetching while wearing just about anything, while Yamaguchi-Hobbs settled in to wait for the message to be connected.
Meanwhile, on Starbase Eighty Two. Fleet Captain Jessica Yamaguchi sighed softly as she was seated in her office while she tapped the display before her, she had finished her normal daily paperwork and now she was slightly dozing off, Yamaguchi was bored and she knew she should not be bored. Fortunately, her issues were about to be resolved as the message came in for her from Vanguard. Jessica looked at the message in silence for a moment before she gently tapped the 'ACCEPT' button. The face of the great seal of the Federation appeared on her display followed a moment later with the face of her daughter. "Celeste. What can I do for you?"
"We need to talk, mom," Yamaguchi-Hobbs answered in a quiet tone. "What do you know about Jasmine Connor?."
Jessica sat back in her chair as she considered carefully her answer. "Ahh, you have met her I assume?"
"Yes and no. We had a mass hallucination event here yesterday and I got to relive our first screaming match. The one we had right before I miscarried at age fifteen." Yamaguchi-Hobbs paused. "It felt so strange to see it through your eyes." she seemed almost scared of what she was saying. "It.... it was... really surreal..." she added a moment later
Jessica suddenly sat forward. "Tell me what happened Celeste.?" she asked gently. The elder Yamaguchi knew she might never get this chance to reconnect with her child ever again and so she seized it with both hands.
Yamaguchi-Hobbs knew what her mother was asking so she told her what happened. "I got into a screaming match with a woman who I thought was myself, except I had taken your role in that little drama." she paused. "But the younger woman's manners were all wrong, she got aggressive whereas I wanted to run away." she paused. "It seemed a little odd."
"I remember," Jessica answered quietly. "I was at Starfleet medical when you miscarried and you did miscarry, you were not poisoned by me."
"Mom, what happened..." Yamaguichi-Hobbs demanded in a strident tone of voice. "Details. I want the details and I want to hear them from you. Its bad enough that I have Marie breathing down my neck about what happened and Daniel and James, both are curious. Whatever it was, Dad knows and he's not talking, he told me to go and see you." Yamaguchi-Hobbs explained.
"Yes, your father knew about what had happened. I asked him not to speak of it." Jessica paused. "What happened was the stress of everything hitting you all at once. That was what had caused you to miscarry. So I stepped in and took your embryo from you, fortunately it was still alive and so I carried the little one to term, I had intended to tell you of this development Celeste but you didn't answer my calls and nobody else knew of it, as your father and I were on separate assignments at the time." Jessica sighed softly. "I outsmarted myself. The others assumed it was my child I had with your dad, not yours." she paused as she closed her eyes, she looked down as she did so. "I knew I could not keep the little one so I decided to do the best thing I could with it, I tracked down her father and gave the little one to him and I told him that the little one was unnamed and he had the right to name her as he saw fit," Jessica explained. "I tried to tell you of these developments but, you never answered my calls and I had no other way to get ahold of you to inform you."
"Wait a minute. What?" Yamaguchi-Hobbs paused. "Let me get this right... You carried my child to term and my child lived, thanks to you?" she paused. "I don't know what to think..." she paused. "I had traces of the Starfleet emergency abort pill in me."
"Yes, I assumed it would have been easier and fewer questions would have been asked." Yamaguchi sighed. "Again, I outsmarted myself and... I am sorry for the grief and pain I have caused you, Celeste." Jessica paused. "I should have been more clear on matters before you and me. I should have tried harder..."
"I should have listened," Yamaguchi-Hobbs admitted. "This was as much mine, as yours." Yamaguchi-Hobbs paused. "I don't know what to say mom." she paused as she looked down at the desk, right in front of her. "I don't know how to explain any of this."
"Then don't try. Celeste. I realize I have no right to ask anything of you..." the silence was pregnant with possibilities. "But may I recommend you talk it over with Brianna and see how she feels on the subject." she explained quietly.
"Good plan," Yamaguchi-Hobbs answered. "However as I already ran a DNA check against her and Rob. She might want words with me too." the middle-aged female paused. "I will be ready for either possibility," she answered quietly.
"Will you be okay Celeste?" Jessica asked.
"I will be, in time," Yamaguchi-Hobbs admitted, in a soft tone of voice. "Will you, mom?"
"In time Celeste. I did not expect you to call me." Jessica admitted.
"I almost didn't mom," Yamaguchi-Hobbs admitted in a quiet tone of voice.
"Take care Celeste but before you have the chat with Jasmine, may I recommend that you are calm and at peace with what you wish to say. Don't make my mistakes with her that I made with you." Yamaguchi knew she had no right to say this to her estranged daughter or even to consider that Celeste will even take her advice.
"I'll do my best," Yamaguchi-Hobbs answered with a gentle smile. "But... I should call my wife and let her know of recent events." she sighed ever so softly.
Yamaguchi nodded her head. "Take care Celeste," she answered quietly before the two women ended their chat and went their separate ways. Yamaguchi-Hobbs sighed softly as she tapped the display before her. "I'm sorry mom." as she tapped her combadge and called in her first officer so she could inform the small Bolian female of recent events.
Meanwhile. Jessica Yamaguchi sat back in her chair as she sighed softly. "Well. I did not see that coming," she admitted softly, more to herself than to anyone else.
